@@cozycooke2040 when is his album coming now? He is hands down one of the greatest guitarists of all time and a great songwriter and singer too but he seems to not be able to really sit down and do an album beginning to end. It‘s really a shame
GREAT SOUND!!!! These dudes are crushing it, Such a sick Power Trio. Sykes voice is amazing, and his guitar skills are second to none. Franklin with that Fretless, AMAZE-BALLS...
To the Unknown Soldier who somehow managed to smuggle a huge 50kg VHS recorder, then connected it to an external mic and stood for 90 minutes with it on his shoulder with no fekks given all as the bright red light flashed.... we salute you sir.
King's X, Blue Murder, and Billy Squier at the Greek Theater in L.A. in the late 80's!! One of the best shows ever along with the 83 Us Festival I ever attended!!
Saw these guys open for Steve Vai in Boston in July ‘89. Un-F’ing believable jam session! This must have been recorded through the ALD system it’s so clean!!
Hey " how does " are my Fav words when the underrated are discussed . Just Franklins Bass and then you got The Genius Extreme talented Axeman JS . . How Does Indeed man . Cheers / Ancient Metal Guy .
They were freaking ON FIRE. Three musicians that have never really been recognized for how bad ass they are. JS is the reason whitesnake became huge.. he should be ranked up there with EVH on every poll but you dont see him anywhere.. that bass player? Jesus.. just amazing - and they sing bad ass too. We need more BM!
I saw them on this tour in the US. Small club that I used to play, Sykes rocked. Then I got to open for Sykes in the 90's when he did the Lizzy tour. My all time favorite guitar player.
What a great band that unfortunately got lost in all the crap that was clogging the airwaves in the late "80's. Sykes is amazing, Carmine so in the pocket on this song. Great band.
I think this is the year I saw them open for Bon Jovi and I thought they blew BJ off the stage! Their sound was HUGE for just 3 guys. Simply incredible
🖤🌚🎵🔥🎶🐝. Really enjoyed this. So glad these videos are available to listen to and watch on big screen at home. Watched two other Sykes’ concerts earlier today with Blue Murder v2, both rocked also. Great way to have a nice Saturday at home.
thanks a lot for this upload, i loved this album when it was released and also the 2nd and also the whole sykes pack. great days for rock, power rock, fusion, metal prog, metal fusion, trip hop and electronics
Imagine a FOH guy that puts zero grease on your voice or guitar and you still sound awesome. That's how great and in-tune Sykes was. Plus he understood that guitar sounds need midrange, a concept which eludes so many other guitarists. That's half his great tone right there. Not to mention that's how loud guitars should be in the mix at every live show.
The difference between legends and the kids...how good is your band when the backup vocalists and guitarist forms his own band and can easily out play and sing better than most lead vocalists?!? 🤘 (Remember that this isn't proshot audio or video too!)
"Off The Desk"😋 No, it's not a soundboard recording. Just getting sound from a 1987 video recorder. Imagine what the actual sound in house must have been. Being at a Blue Murder show in the late 80's, early 90's= Heaven🤘✊✌❤
@@Michael----- My copy is soundboard, but I not sure of the date in Japan. You know everyone was probably recording in the audience, but so were the house.
A few things...1, Coverdale is a freaking moron for doing him the way he did. Sykes is unreal. like a lot of the comments here, he plays lead and sings better than anyone. 2, whoever took this video in 89 has the best equipment ever! Probably a Sony shoulder mount, i mean it is Japan and they had all the good shit lol
Banda fantástica, ao.lado de van haken ,whitesnake deep purple ,ozzy , Stones, jimi hendrix ,Steve vai micheal schenker ,yngwie malmsteen ,vinte Moore, Joe satriane ,Scorpions ,e Black Sabbath
3 elite players.. top hard rock power trio ever. John is the legend. No whitesnake without his licks, then pushed out to find he was a better singer than Coverdale while shredding. Ridiculous talent. Come out of hiding John... True Rockstar top 3. Coverdale did not like that John was a better looking
John Sykes is one of the greatest guitarists that doesn't get the credit he deserves!
You're so right !!!
under literally every guitarist video is at least one "underrated" comment, BUT John Sykes really doesnt get what he deserves.....
Agreed but he really has no one to blame but himself

This band should have been huge. The talent on that stage is amazing.
They blew Bon Jovi off the stage when I saw Blue Murder open up for them
Wrong time sadly...Crap guitar playing, bad hair, no solos, poor songwriting and flannel shirts robbed John of world domination.
Best musician in the band Carmine appaice
Sykes in my top three players all day. He can drag a note like no other. And he sings while doing it.
Some guys understand how to play guitar, some guys don't. Sykes gets it. Even his slop is good.
big time
Ptolemy.. very underrated song!
Nice performance
John has a great sound and nice wide vibrato......very distinct...it is hard to play lead and sing well too...he makes it look easy.
Sykes is a guitar beast.....way underrated!!!
HAHAHA. THAT guitar tone. HUUUUUUUUUUUGE! Such balls. Excellent!
for this to be clearly handheld video from 89 and sounds THIS good says EVERYTHING about what a monster player he was....a fucking monster.
GREAT SOUND!!!! These dudes are crushing it, Such a sick Power Trio. Sykes voice is amazing, and his guitar skills are second to none. Franklin with that Fretless, AMAZE-BALLS...
Great to hear John giving a nod to Philo! BM is just a classic album, cant get enough of those riffs

The most underrated guitarist of his era
We can write ✍️ into afta
King's X, Blue Murder, and Billy Squier at the Greek Theater in L.A. in the late 80's!! One of the best shows ever along with the 83 Us Festival I ever attended!!
One of the greatest 3 piece bands ever...... Sykes is the best, and Carmine has been blessed to have played with both Tony Franklin, and Tim Bogert.
KICK ASS, Total bad asses, Love John Sykes, what a voice
This Trio is most powerful Rock band in Rock History. Guitar, Bass, Drums & Vocal all sections are Amazing
🤘🏽 what a bad ass super group! I’m so glad I saw them back then! 🤘🏽🥁🎸🎤
Really jealous.
I had the chance but missed out. Still gutted, even now.
I really love the way Sykes always remembers Phil Lynott!
I love Sykes but he never pronounces Phil Lynott's name right though haha.
@@CliffB70 for sure 👍
Do you think he was influenced in singing style by Phil?
@@helendancelot Don't think so, Phil's voice was so unique 🎸

One of the greatest rock lineups AND records ever!!!!!!!
Tony Frettless Franklin !!!!
What a voice
A force to be reckoned with !
John opens with a Phil Lynot dedication… how sweet of him.
Saw these guys open for Steve Vai in Boston in July ‘89.
Un-F’ing believable jam session!

A Sykes and Vai jam??? I would've loved to see that one.
How does this get only 36k views? It should be 3.6 billion views.

I’ve always liked David Coverdale, but it’s obvious by looking at John Sikes why he did not want him in the band!
You know it and I know it

Tony Franklin. The fretless monster. Nik Greene back there on keys and harmonies.

Thank you for watching
Awesome in every way! I remember when I saw them live. I was blown away. I feel bad for kids today. They don’t have real, soulful rock and roll.
Un gusto escuchar y ver a blue murders, virtuosos músicos en esta formación, sobretodo a mr.john sykes virtuoso
One great john sykes virtuoso
What a great band that unfortunately got lost in all the crap that was clogging the airwaves in the late "80's. Sykes is amazing, Carmine so in the pocket on this song.
Great band.
The band is very tight. All the essentials in just three journeymen top-notch musicians.
This guy tames the Les Paul ... rather strangles into submission 🔥
All song's are fantastic
That was a most welcome pleasure.!
Loved every minute
Man! Tony Franklin has got some "snot" on that fretless bass tone!!!

TONE!!! 🤟🔥🎸🔥🤟
良くも複雑な演奏をしながら歌えるものだ。また、このバンドは本当にコーラスがうまい!とてもトリオの演奏とは思えない
John SYKES is as well a superb Guitarhero as a Great Singer with a lot of Soul in his Voice👍👍👍, but sold under his worth sadly……

If you morph Paul Kossoff with Paul Rodgers add a splash of virtuoso chops you get: John Sykes.....

Virtuoso john sykes 🎸
Hands down, fucking John Sykes!! Outfreakingstanding.
I wish I went to your shows 😁
Un-fucking-believable. Saw them at The Newport in Columbus, OH. Not much, if anything, can beat that first album!

Audio is from the soundboard. Video is shot by a fan. Then they synched the two. The audio only is available on a bootleg: "Three Pirates Live"

There's a live audio tape off the board floating around for years.

Is it wrong that when the keys kick in, I"m singing the first verse of "West End Girls", by the Pet Shop Boys?
No one plays it like Sykes
A massive trio. They are aliens.
at 4:42 he can play fast. and 2:57. He’s ridiculous. He’s tone and sound and he’s fast picking you can hear every note
That vibrato tho.
11:14 - 11:18 --- SICK!
How many live acts do they (most bands) play a song at a slower temp than on the record? It's the adrenaline rush that does it. Am I wrong?
