The beautiful Santa Barbara County Bowl .. what a great venue to see Jeff and his band. A great time to be young in SB.
I love that there are no vocal mics! Who else in rock could pull that off? Nobody! Thanks for all the fine music and inspiration, RIP Mr Beck

My college roommate did a summer internship at JPL and took in both shows at the Greek, if I recall correctly that there were 2 shows. We later saw this tour when it hit Atlanta’s Fox Theatre. We had seats right at the sound board and could read the set list. Got to see the band at the stage door as they came out to board the tour bus. Great times!

I first saw Simon perform live in a 1976 CT club show as part of the Jack Bruce Band. I thought him to be like a more compact Billy Cobham (i.e., amazing). He also drummed on Jack's next album "How's Tricks?" (1977). Sometime after this period, he must've gotten a call that Jeff was looking to record again, and put a new band together for touring.

I was there at this show. The SB County bowl is one great venue. Small outdoors where the sound is outstanding and your right there on top of it.
For me "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" was the most incredible thing I ever heard on an electric guitar live. Its not how fast you can play. Its how slow and with sustain and feeling, breathing every note.
Jeff Beck is guitar territory very few venture to learn let alone play.
Once before I heard this sort of thing with
Carlos Santana in 1976 at UCSB Robertson Gym and the classic "Europa"...for the first time ...live.
    and later
a beautiful guitar solo Eric Clapton did as an intro to "Wonderful Tonight"...
in 1982 when he had Albert Lee and Ry Cooder on stage with him.❤
Thank you. For the great memory.

Very cool! Considering this was such a big album for JB it's surprising there's not much live footage from the tour supporting it. There's not much live footage of Simon Phillips earlier in his career so that part is also great. This is around the time he was on *everyone's* short list for session drummers. Same place Joni Mitchell played for her 'Shadows and Light' concert video in '79.

Saw this line up in Manchester at the Apollo. I tried to learn every note played on There & Back as a Si Phi super nerd. Drumming has evolved since yet his unreal playing still gets me excited 44 years on. I bought everything I could find with Simon on from that point. I was ill in hospital in summer 1980 and heard Tommy Vance play Space Boogie on his BBC radio rock show. [Was already aware of Simon due to following Gordon Giltrap who I also saw at the Apollo. ]that made a massive impression on me and immediately I was able bought the single which had Led Boots on the B side , which turned me on to Narada who played on Wired. I was just beginning to study drumming then and those are vivid memories for me. So thankful for this footage. Obviously would love to see the whole thing!

Hammersmith Odeon was a great venue to see this tour when it rocked into town - gentlemen at the top of their game.

Yes, I was there for one of the two Hammersmith Odeon dates, My first (of many) times seeing Jeff live in London. I have some crappy photos, but sadly pre-dates me being able to capture video.

I see it and I can't believe how Beck can play this stuff on guitar.
