I'm in the process of saving up money to buy my first boat and l'm enjoying watching your videos. What is clear to me is the fact that there is so much to learn about boating do's and don'ts, particularly on how to launch and load a trailer boat, including the need to successfully reverse a boat trailer into the water. I grew up on a commercial fishing boat in Murrells Inlet, SC. I was fortunate enough to be taught super young. I was backing up trailers, launching, and loading years before I had my driver license. Not bragging my any means but watching these videos reminds me why my Dad and the old salties were so hard on me about learning skills like this. UA-cam has nothing on the way they gave me hell when learning and laughed at me but it was all for good reason. It scares me how many people lack these skills at the boat ramp which tells me they are even more at risk once they leave the dock. The water is nothing to play with and will remind you the sec you try to.
I've never seen this many boaters that can read the wind and drift of their boats. If you watch carefully, the guys that usually get it done first try, sat in their boats and felt the wind and current to gauge their path. Most of these folks are just a lick and a promise.
Great video and early season is always a blast to watch. I think you and Madlin need to have a battle at the two different ramps and have the viewers vote who's video is better. 😅
Put my new pontoon in the water for the first time. Wife did a little practice the week before but struggled and said a few things today. In the end she got it done backing the loaded and unloaded trailer. and I actually got the pontoon off and back on in first attempt with no issues. Not gonna lie I was a bit worried since my previous boats was a regular hull and easy peasy. Plus watching all the boat ramp UA-cam channels only show messed up pontoon captains messes with your self confidence. By the way, she insisted on doing the backing up when we go out together.
As a tractor trailer driver for over 40 years the #1 thing people do when backing up is they turn the steering wheel to much get lined up and back up slow without turning the wheel more than a 1/4 turn

Also practice, practice, practice in a parking lot away from the crowd. The first time you go to the water do it on a slow day during the week and take someone experienced with you. After you get the boat off the trailer, tie it off and go back to the parking lot with your rig and practice backing the empty trailer when you can only see it in the mirrors…don’t let a busy boat ramp be your first time. This is where people fail, they buy a new boat then go to the lake with no idea what they are doing. It cost nothing but gas and your time to practice in a low stress environment but it can be a pretty expensive lesson if you don’t.
Yeah nice idea. Combine it with pulling forwards to straighten out and you be good 👍 Then 6 o'clock position and make small adjustments to back up straight.
Guys, if you've got a pickup, just put the tailgate DOWN. You can see the whole trailer. That doesnt mean you shouldn't learn to use your mirrors properly, but it is an easy way to keep track of what you're doing.
Drop the Gate. Look in the Mirrors. Look at your back up cam. Put your right hand on the passenger head rest and look over your shoulder. So many ways to do it.
@@TheBigDanShow Ive had my own boat for about 20 years now. That's what happens when you can't teach and definitely don't practice. I solo launch and recover almost 90% of the time. I being over 50 installed mid side bunks and welded up my own set of steps and clamped to my trailer. I literally can recover my boat just as fast as 2 people. Launching takes more time of course because I have to dock, walk and park.
You should hang out at the ramp with a little table chair and sign saying I’ll back your trailer down for 5 dollars, you’ll make a lot going that all day, while your wife records all the other action!
I make much more recording believe it or not 🤪 I haveeee to watch them struggle a little bit. But I’m becoming so well known here. Everyone is getting educated so they “ain’t that guy” Soon I’ll have to switch ramps 🤣🤣
The first rule of backing a trailer is keep it as straight as possible, so that your corrections on the steering wheel are no more than a half a turn, if you are loosing it go ahead again and straighten up, and the first rule of boating is if a rope falls over the side pick it up, you see what happened when that guy threw the rope to his mate on the trailer and he missed it it eventually got tangled around the trailer wheel because nobody retrieved it.
I think what these people are doing is trying to aim the trailer so they can back straight up from there. They crank things around to get the trailer aimed and then think about what the truck has to do, which is impossible by then. Turning the trailer is something you do while the whole rig is moving, and it takes slow adjustments over a distance. It's a curve, not a turn.
If you get a new boat, learn how to trailer it before you go out all day. Back it down just enough for the motor to reverse it off the trailer, then drive it back on. Note the depth of the trailer. Little deeper or little shallower and will be perfect every time. And dont lone your boat to someone who does not know this very well!

Yes, in fact, I’ve got a local boat ramp down by the river on my hit list this year. The issue is, there’s not that many parking spaces. So you might have 25 boats there and it’s a numbers game you might get one or two good shots out of 25 people, this particular ramp has over 400 spaces and nine lanes, it’s a guarantee when I go there. It’s hard for me to go to the river and waste a whole afternoon, waiting on a bunch of drunks when I can do the same thing and get five times the Content in half the time.
I'd probably never get a boat even if I magically had that money to burn, because my backing skills suck even without benefit of a trailer! I'd have people either crying or laughing themselves to tears.

@@TheBigDanShow it’d be cool if you came to Hydrofest. I’m volunteering. I’m looking forward to seeing your future boat endeavors
Dang I was side tracked as well when I saw that peach
2:06.."I told you it was too slow. put your hands at 6 o'clock and turn the steering wheel in the direction you want the trailer to go"
23:05 you can see that trailer make a hard sudden turn
I'd probably never get a boat even if I magically had that money to burn, because my backing skills suck even without benefit of a trailer! I'd have people either crying or laughing themselves to tears.
Lol. Hey trailering is part of the process. You’ve gotta enjoy it
There was a good amount of stuff you could have pointed out people where doing wrong so others can learn from the mistakes and get a 😂at the same time. I grade alot of them pretty good must have been still the winter warriors.
What was your rating in the coast guard. I'm the process of joining waiting on meps but I'm looking at either BM or AMT

People standing between boats and vehicles on those power loads is crazy.
Is this near the marina where the spring boat and car shows are in Orange Beach?
Yea
@@TheBigDanShow Only been there once (March -April 2019), but the background looked familiar.
great bhow from granger, In.
Ive never seen this guy launch ANY kind of boat for him to be talking like an expert. JUS SAYIN
I’ve got multiple videos of me launching. Trailering. Docking. So on..
Very entertaining
Thanks
I England we use the winch on the trailer, it's just easier.
Nice 🏴
Love that area good job Dan. ❤
Thanks mate
How effective are bow thrusters on some of these medium (24 ft) to large boats (30+ ft)? ;-)
Ehhhh, not necessary unless you’ve got a 34’ + in my opinion. Unless you’re running a single engine maybe
The dog was going to go.... NOT PAYING ATTENTION to him!
^..^~~
Like that Yamaha motor at 29:37
Ramp Dwellers!
90% of these people need to take boating classes, driving classes.....or hire someone to drive, the boat, launch the boat, etc
gree
You should put a remote mic down on the dock so you can pick up all the audio…. Have to do a lot of cuss editing though lol
Haha ain’t no doubt. I spent an hour mic’n up the docks one day and missed several good shots while doing it. Then when I brought it to the editor it was very quiet and couldn’t even use it 😟😟😟
What are the two things sticking up beside the outboard on that last boat?
Wow. Not too bright I guess on the last rig. The guy that was yanking on the bow line when it snapped is lucky he didn’t get wet. Really liked the wooden skiff. I haven’t seen a wooden boat on the water in a long time. Where exactly is this ramp? I’d like to Google Earth it.
The Launch @ ICW orange Besch Al
Keep your boat in a marina and you will never have problems at the ramp
