On and average yard needing to mowed and let's say it has rained a few days and gotten a little tall around 6 inches or so would it leave the yard looking like a hay field with the grass clippings or does it cut them into fine particles? I'm asking because I don't wanna have to rake the yard if I'm spending over 3 grand and if it does do it would the mulching kit be more necessary to purchase along with this mower?
Killswitch 365 Tall grass requires the grass flap to be removed. It discharges pretty good, but it doesn’t cut the grass very fine. I wouldn’t personally look elsewhere for a better mower.

The deere are nice mowers and have an excellent cut. The deere come in e,m,and r classes. E is entry level no frills,m is mid grade and is a little better. Question for you. I’ve had the ZT2 50” for about a month and noticed yesterday that my cut was way off compared to when I initially got it. Turns out, one side of the deck is just over 4” and the other side is at 2.75” when it’s set at its highest setting of 4.5. I’ve adjusted the low side with that bolt but no matter where I go, it doesn’t change the height of the low side. Any advice on what else I should check? When pushing the pedal to raise the deck, there is quite a bit of play before the harder press happens to be able to adjust the deck height.
@@g4outdoors I looked at this exact one today at my local cub dealer and looked at the same thing basically but, the ZT2 with the bigger engine and bigger transmission pumps and some other features. I wish I would have taken a photo of the after math of the double cut. The field looked reallll good. I just mowed "my" yards for real for the first time yesterday. I just FLEW through them! It still only has 3.9 hrs on it, but, yea, impressed so far.

@@g4outdoors Thanks for all your coverage on the new ZTs. As for this comment, though, since yours is a ZT1 and Robert's is a ZT2, any clarification will need to be made for each, right? They're quite different. And Robert, are you really questioning whether your ZT2 will suit more than an acre? And G4, wasn't your concern (in an earlier video) driven by what a rep SAID vs what the site showed? It seems folks are presuming the rep was right and the site was wrong. Reps can be mistaken or misinformed, even for (perhaps ESPECIALLY for) a new model. They're needing to keep a lot of new facts straight in their heads, and to not confuse perhaps a point that's really about some OTHER model. And of course, if they (Cub) do make some new clarification, it would seem also to need to be about the models within each range, because larger models in each range (ZT1 or Zt2) are pretty different from their smaller siblings, let alone how the same size model between the two ranges is also quite different. Just trying to help, as a fellow consumer considering a ZT2 (and likely waiting to next year or at least later this year, to see how things shake out for folks).
@@CharlieArehart1 Thanks for the comment! The rep, The corporate office, and my dealer all said that my mower isn't intended to mow over an acre. So, it's not just one guy saying this.
G4 Outdoors Here is a question...”why” is it not intended for more than one acre?? What’s going to happen if you have 2 acres for example? Is it going to break down and fall apart?? (Just being facetious) Or do they just say that so people won’t try to use it as a commercial mower (which would cost them $$ in warranty repairs since it has an unlimited hours warranty)? No one ever answers the “why” question. Lol

Just leaves a mess. It's not cutting good. I was gone working for 3 weeks and came home to about the same height of grass. I did one cut quite a bit faster that that with my ferris
I was glad to see this video! I have watched alot of your videos on the ZT1. I purchased my ZT1 on 5-16-2019. I love this mower. The only issue I was having was the cut quality. I have a few large properties that I mow and the grass and weeds are around 1 to 2 ft tall. I noticed the stragglers left behind after the first pass as well. I tried different heights...2.5 to 4 and had same results. I was glad to see it was not only my mower that does this. I was curious to know what height setting you had yours on when you did this video?
3.5. I cut my yard at normal speed the other day, the grass was at normal height for cutting, and there was still stragglers. It wasn't like god awful, but you could definitely see them very clearly. I really like this mower so far. I will be putting better blades on here shortly to try and get to cut better than it is. Thanks for commenting Gary!
Theres certain weed grass that has a long stem with a bulb looking thing that grows in fields. I've had issues over the years cutting. Even stow they seem to still stand after mowing.
I bought the 50in xtreme mulching blades online from Home Depot already! Should be here in a few days, so I will see how much difference they make compared to the factory blades.
I hate Cub Cadets exit shoots. (Where your grass is blown out) I cut mine off & installed a 1/4" flat bar. All it would do was clog up the exit shoot. Mine is a 2012 RZT 50" & it definitely out cuts my Buddies new ExMark 60" Radious. That ExMark Scalps bad
Saying a 60' scalps more than a 50' is a downfall of a company is unfair. Bigger decks will scalp if you attack a hill the wrong way way sooner than a 50'. That's just physics.
I just don't like the way its cuts. Not pretty I got 2 mowers that cuts pretty 260Z and a Pony,, There both beast > Knee high grass NP 👍👍 I might have to double cut it
That's acceptable for a light duty residential machine that costs ~$3500, but those ZT1 and ZT2 machines all leave a lot of stragglers behind - even when not cutting tall grass. Dunno why, but it's totally a thing. Also, there are plenty of machines on the market that could have done that job faster and better, without any stragglers - but admittedly, those machines are a lot more expensive.
@@g4outdoors I've got a ZT2 to cut the 3 acres at my business. It's not a terrible machine, but it's nothing special. On paper, it's got good components and what not - but no matter which blades you've got, or how sharp the blades are, or how slow you go - it leaves stragglers. Otherwise, it's been pretty good. Overall it's an acceptable machine considering the pricepoint.
I do wear hearing protection on a regular basis, just not on video most of the time. It is quite loud. I can't lift the deflector up because the blades are exposed. Can you believe that? If the deflector want on there, you could literally stick your hand right int the top of the blades!
@@g4outdoors I have this mower, and yes, maybe could up deflector angle... but I would not remove because it could sling something right at your face if you did. On a side note, for a home gamer machine this thing has great blade speed. Toss commercial high lift type blades and the deflector isn't an issue.
@@g4outdoors same here, it's bad ass for a residential machine, but I think just a blade swap would make a big improvement on cut. I really wish they had used more (serviceable) transmissions though. But even ones in it can be worked on if your adept enough.
Tom Courero me or the mower? I’m sure you’re talking about the mower, and if so, you are right. After several cuts, I’m seeing stragglers quite a bit. I will be trying different blades to see if that helps.

@@neicejoe4480 It's a lot more than $3k more! The ZT1 is a $3200 machine, the Super Z is a $12k machine - literally 4x the price. Hard for a homeowner with a couple acres to justify. No doubt the Hustler is way better though.

@@johnleon2594 I'm telling you, that mower has more cutting force than the modern mowers, and they just don't look ugly either. I myself have a 1997 Cub HDS 2165 with the briggs vanguard 16 and the LT-46" deck. The deck on the 97 sounds amazing! LOUD and POWERFUL
Love your videos, brother. Got a quick question. I am looking at getting the zt1 and found that they now only come with a cub cadet branded engine. Being a cub cadet owner for a long time, would that discourage you from buying it?
Dig a little deeper into my reviews on this mower and read the comments. It’s not a good mower Scott. Some people say they are having good luck, but the majority vote is nay.
@@g4outdoors i was also looking at the Ariens Ikon XD. How has your X held up?
Scott Cooper 100%!! My neighbor bought my ikon and a friend bought the apex. Both are running just fine and they both say that they are glad they got them.
@@g4outdoors ordered my Ikon XD 52 yesterday. I decided to go with the 52". Another older customer while I was there started talking to me and asked the price difference in the 52 and 42. When I told him $100, he told me to get the 52 as when I am his age, I won't look back and wish I had spent more time on my mower.
Scott Cooper That’s the truth! Lol.
@@g4outdoors so would the mulching kit help that out any? They are 109 dollars extra. If not then I'll probably just go commercial. I don't really want to spend that kinda of money, but if necessary I will
Killswitch 365 I would go commercial if you are capable all day long. I didn’t have a chance to use a mulching kit on this mower.
@@BallPythonPassion consider getting a cyclone rake. Its excellent at getting a golf course manicured lawn look. It's a power vacuum with a big hopper on swivel wheels. Does a fantastic job with leaves also. They're about $1300,but theyll last forever and a day. Mines almost 20 years old and starts in 2-3 pulls everytime.
That cub cadet cut pretty nice
Looks like 8-10” of very thin grass.
What type of striping kit is that if any ?
I'm debating between this an the John deer z335e could anyway give me some tips on witch would be better ? Thanks !
I don't have any knowledge on the JD, sorry.
Cub cadet
The deere are nice mowers and have an excellent cut. The deere come in e,m,and r classes. E is entry level no frills,m is mid grade and is a little better. R has lights, floor mat, mire ergonomic lap bar bigger tires, and foot assist deck lift. Get on your john deere dealers website and browse their used equipment. Often you can find one with just a few hours on it at a discounted price. Get more for your money and still get the new mower warranty.
I found a last years demo model deere z535m for $2900. The m isn't fancy, but has big tires, nice cut,and nice price. Only downside is that it has the Briggs engine instead of Kawasaki, but I can live with that.
I haven't seen any follow up with the vibration issue. Do you feel Cub has that problem sorted out with the ZT1/ZT2 line?
Brian Lehmann I think the problem is fixed to a point that most wont know any better. I do feel the problem still exists enough that the spinals will be replaced under the warranty period.
@@g4outdoors thanks! I know there is a lot of people experiencing the vibration issue, but then there is just as many saying they haven't had any issues at all. Makes it hard to know what you're getting.
@@blehmann22 There are comments on both sides for sure. I would say if you are wanting one, Make sure you are able to start it and engage the PTO first.
Smart union, huh? Nice to see a union shirt out there. I'm out of local 490 myself.
Oh, and the mower looks like it does a pretty good job at laying down some stripes.
gtrotter07 I ain’t sceard! 🤣. Thanks for the comment brother!
a good worker doesn’t need union
dustbustr91 You have it all wrong if that is your interpretation. Thanks for watching though!
@@dustbustr91 A good employee in a non-union shop is not called a "worker", and a union expects you to be a "worker" for the rest of your life. If I had worked in a union shop, I never would have gotten the skills to start my own business. That is what it is all about. I am soooo glad that I never worked in a union shop. It was "Freedom" that I discovered when my business took off, and there is not a union "worker" in the world who can experience that.
I think you can now get a fender kit for these. If you get them, post a vid. Good stuff, thanks.
I will not be getting one, but just knowing they sell them lets people know that it does fling mud. It will fling poo on you! Yes I know from experience, lol.
@@g4outdoors oh crap 🤣
Nice work. Keep up the awesome work on the yards!!
Luke Herbert It’s laying some pretty decent stripes now that the grasses are under control. It’s been a while since I’ve taken pictures of my own stripes, but I’m doing it now!
@@g4outdoors Okay
Worlds only OCD friendly Mowing video lol. Thanks for not continuing to cut crooked lines!
Can you suggest good like the best blades for a zer turn?
That all depends on what type of grass you are cutting, mulching, dryer grass vs wet grass. So, no, I can't recommend any.
A good step up from stock blades I'd consider Oregon gator blades. Not much more than factory blades and seem to do a little better lifting the grass
I have a set of ultra high lift blades way better then factory discharge is awesome and I don’t use my blower much ever since I changed my blades here in Florida btw
How many hours does a full tank of gas go?
EpicConspiracy I can’t say exactly, but not many at all. It’s a thirsty machine!
@@g4outdoors i just bought a new house and have 3 acres to mow, would a full tank do that?
EpicConspiracy I have around 3 acres to do myself. Yes, you can do 3 on one tank. I don’t think you can do it twice though.
G4 Outdoors awesome. Thank you. Ordering one tomorrow.
@@EpicConspiracy Nice! Are you getting the ZT1 or 2? It is a comfortable machine. be sure to go ahead and upgrade the blades right out of the gate.
looks like it did a good job in that tall grass and it did not sound like the motor was laboring either.
mimes missing 4 in uncut grass in middle?
Sounds like you’re missing a blade or it’s not spinning.
Is this a mower you would recommend for someone that has a flat property, roughly 3/4 of an acre.
I wouldn't not recommend it. I wouldn't put it on the top of the list though. Personal property of 3/4 acre? Go for it!
Nice work!
Take it in for service is all I can say right now. Would have to be looking at one to know exactly what you’re pointing at.
@@g4outdoors I looked at this exact one today at my local cub dealer and looked at the same thing basically but, the ZT2 with the bigger engine and bigger transmission pumps and some other features. I know its just an MTD residential mower but, I am shopping around for a zero turn and just wandering how has yours faired so far do you like it. It seems for what your putting it through it mowed pretty good to me.
Thank you for the video, good stuff.
I wish I would have taken a photo of the after math of the double cut. The field looked reallll good. I just mowed "my" yards for real for the first time yesterday. I just FLEW through them! It still only has 3.9 hrs on it, but, yea, impressed so far.
Thanks for the info I just bought my first cub ZT1, hope it works out
Robert Montes I hope yours is great! I enjoyed the ride.
They're pretty loud, but are a good mower so far. (I live in California, so I might switch to electric someday since gas prices here are terrible and ours seems to be really thirsty.)
Curious, what height you cut at?
redzombi2k 3.5. At least that’s what the indicator reads.
G4 Outdoors impressive. I figured on the 2 feet tall grass you went as high as possible on the first pass and then lower on the second pass. Thanks!
redzombi2k if I was mowing a paid property, I would have reduced the size of clippings for sure. This just a vacant field that I take care of so I don’t have to look out my back door at a field of sucker brush and thorn trees. I wish I would have recorded the aftermath of the second cut, it turned out super awesome. Good enough to post an IG photo of it 😎.
G4 Outdoors that would have been nice, I’ll check out the insta!
Can I squeeze that on a trailer 55.5 inches w 84 inches long? With the 50 inch deck
Yes.
I have a 5ft by 8ft and with the discharge up fits like a dream
I saw this guys comment, that he didnt keep the mower very long, that makes me nervous.
Great job on this. I hope we still get to the bottom of this. I agree with you on the dealers response to this. I want know if this is a one acre or 3 to 4 acres mower I bought this for 3 to 4 acres. I have the ZT2 50. If it design for only 1 acre then they did false advertisement on this.
Robert Sprouse Their words and their website definitely need to match instead of misleading people into thinking this is made for a 4 acre lot.
Lol
@@Justsomedude64 I was at work and unable to speak to the rep for my own video with my own questions answered to my satisfaction. So I really don't know. I love the mower, I just don't like the way Cub is all shady and the damn vibration. I can change blades to get a better cut.
Just leaves a mess. It's not cutting good. I was gone working for 3 weeks and came home to about the same height of grass. I did one cut quite a bit faster that that with my ferris
shroom903 I do like the Ferris and Simplicity
I need to buy a different blades Factory blades are junk how to make a big difference

You can order the fender kit, not sure how much it helps.

Catch up on the Ultima playlist! This mower just didn’t make the cut.
Drink. A. Beer!!!
Your going to be saying what if you don't start wearing ear protection And lift that deflector up , just saying 😀🎣
Wes M. I think it flings the clippings out exceptionally well! I do want better blades though.
@@g4outdoors same here, it's bad ass for a residential machine, but I think just a blade swap would make a big improvement on cut. I really wish they had used more (serviceable) transmissions though. But even ones in it can be worked on if your adept enough.
I put a small rope on the deflector so I can lift it up for parking the mower in a shed or making it through a slightly narrower area.
Bad cutting
Tom Courero me or the mower? I’m sure you’re talking about the mower, and if so, you are right. After several cuts, I’m seeing stragglers quite a bit. I will be trying different blades to see if that helps.
G4 Outdoors or maybe try mowing more often. It’s not a brush hog.

@@neicejoe4480 It's a lot more than $3k more! The ZT1 is a $3200 machine, the Super Z is a $12k machine - literally 4x the price. Hard for a homeowner with a couple acres to justify. No doubt the Hustler is way better though.
