- ***I forgot to mention that if you choose to go with a black background, it helps to leave a little bit of white around the edges of your figures because it will make them pop. It also looks really neat and is easier to cut :)

Can you do a portfolio digitally or does it have to be hand drawn by any chance? I’m better when it comes to digital drawing and find it easier to color drawings.

We just got our son to school, and now it's our daughter's turn. I came to loathe the "The Essays that got me into Harvard, Yale, Stanford...." videos. First the kids had no idea what role the essays played in the process. It may have been more important that they were a woman applying to a physics department that currently was 75% male. Or maybe it was they planned to continue their study of cello along side being seen English major, and the school orchestra was graduating 4 cellists. There are so many factors in the process, factors you students have no control over, that it's hard to tell what made or possibly broke the deal.
All that said, this was a well put together video. You were very humble, and nothing in your portfolio was earthshaking. What it was, though, was mature. You had a plan, and you stuck to it. You were prepared to both show and discuss every piece of the portfolio. It was comprehensive and thoughtfully assembled. Thank you, I'll make sure my daughter watches.

Ricky Martinez if YOIRE a resident in ny (or just live there for a year) tuition is free
And you apply for financial aid on the fit website on the application page, that or you apply for it while applying for SUNY

I notice that for the mix and match designs, you only included two fabric swatches, for the green pants and the top. Do you not need to add the swatches for the other garments?
So did you use markers or colored pencils? Also, what did you draw the pieces on? The material seems very hard

You can create whatever you’d like if you prefer and have the skills to do so. The black is neater to them and used to be an “industry standard” back in the day!

I did want to ask during the portfolio process (where you had to illustrate original design work) did you already have the fabric swatches before you created your designs, or did you first create the designs and later bought the fabrics? It’s called rendering! I learned how to render different fabric textures from classes and videos! FSketcher is a GREAT channel to watch!

Tayami Rai hi! No I did not, I just went to a regular high school. I have always had an interest in fashion design and so began drawing on my own, and eventually learned how to sew.

Hey, I was wondering for the portfolio do you actually have to physically construct (make each garment) that you drew? How did you go about doing that? HELL NA, you only have to sew for the sewing project, I would lose my mind if I had to sew the sketches

Classic Simmer yes! Each collection you make in class you present and receive a critique! If it’s a construction class you do not need to present, It will get graded and that’s all. However all professors work differently so it varies

1) how do we have to send our portfolio? In person or digitally? Coz im from Sweden and I wanna apply to FIT and also how can students apply from abroad?
3) where can I find all the questions and tasks for the fashion design major that we need to do in order to get in?
2) does FIT give scholarship to international students?
3) Do we have to give an interview in person before we get in coz I don't live in new york so do I have to travel over there just to give an interview in person in order to get in?
4) do they send acceptance email if we do get in? And how to send all the money?
5) I took Arts stream for my 11th and 12th grade ( which had subjects like geography, English, history, political science, fine arts, multimedia and fashion designing) so I didn't have math and I wanna apply to go to FIT next year so I will have to give my SAT exam and since I didn't have math, my scores in SAT for math and science probably won't be good so will I still have chances to get in FIT even if my sat exam score is low? Is SAT exam necessary?
