    Is it necessary to know how to sew before hand? I have designed one dress before but got it sown from someone. How many sown items should we show?

    Thank you so much for uploading this video it was so thorough and helpful. But I'm kinda worried because I don't really know how to sew and I know this sounds really stupid but I saw another FIT application tip video and they said that instead of sewing you can use glue to create garments and sewing is not really necessarily, however I'm not really sure about that, would you be able to clarify this? Thank you so much!!

    Hey! Thank you for this great information ☺️ Actually I have a question about getting into FIT. I'm from India and I will be in class 12 (last year of my high school) this year 2023 and I wanna take admission in FIT next year 2024 so when should I apply for it? My final exams will be in March 2024 so can I apply before my exams??

    Do u have a sewing machine in dorm to do homework? My daughter didn’t bring hers so she went to sewing machine shop. The owner said she can buy a used industrial sewing machine for 400. I think it’s too big for her dorm. What would u suggested?

    • @AprilFaith
      @AprilFaith  5 років тому +1

      I'm so sorry for not seeing this comment until now!! But to answer your question, yes, the dorms have sewing machines students are able to use! Classrooms are also available until 2AM for them to use as well :) Buying a sewing machine isn't necessary when there are a lot of options around her but if she wants to, she's more than welcome to!

    omg thanks so much for being so thorough! you and your videos are great! i was actually wondering about FIT's building hours. are the sewing machines available for use 24/7 seven days a week once you are a student?

    • @AprilFaith

      Hi Drunjj! Thank you for watching! Campus Operating Hours are as follows:
      The campus is open to students from 7am until 10:30pm when classes are in session. Students may also access certain classrooms until 2am by properly completing an After-Hours Classroom Request and receiving approval. Let me know if you have any questions but I'll definitely include this one in my Q&A video as well :) Best wishes and much love, April

      April Faith thank you for such a quick response! and wow, does that seem to work for students? i was curious bc i know that fit’s workload is also demanding and that other schools like parsons has 24/7 access to studios. so i was wondering if any FIT students complain about the building hours in regards to being able to finish their work on time! thanks again and i’m really looking forward to your future videos, please keep them up! xoxo

    Can u tell us buying tips for text books? Does she need to bring books for first class. Is there a class which don’t use text books at all?

    • @AprilFaith
      @AprilFaith  6 років тому +1

      Congratulations to your daughter!! I'm so happy for her! As for books, most of the professors won't require students to bring the text book on the first day of class as they mostly go over the syllabus and what to expect in the class. I would highly recommend scanning the books from the library if they're available. It does take time scanning page by page, but definitely better than buying a book! The next option is to rent them or buy them used! Hope this helps and congrats again! Happy I could help :)

    does every project/collection has to have a mood board?

  • @soobining
    @soobining 5 років тому

    Hello, for the fabric swatches, do we REALLY need to get 2x2 swatches of the fabric? or can we just take a picture of it and crop it to 2x2 and print it out. Also in the 4-9 original images, can we input a mood board before the actual fashion sketches? or do you just need to write the inspiration in the description?

    • @AprilFaith
      @AprilFaith  5 років тому

      Hi Clarence! Yes, for the swatches, you do need the actual fabric so FIT can see the texture of your garments. Real designers do this as well so they're really testing you on your skills of following directions. Trust me, you don't really want to find any short cuts for this application. As for your second question, I'm not sure if I'm understanding what you're asking for. It is a requirement to have the mood page so yes? and it's also a requirement to write the inspiration of the mood page as well as your sketches, so yes? lol Once again, real designers do this verbally when they present their designs. Since you're not physically presenting your portfolio to FIT, they're having you write them down instead! Hope this helps and best wishes to your application!

    • @soobining
      @soobining 5 років тому

      April Faith thank you!! by my second question i meant like for the original sketches part ( 2nd part after the mix & match) can i put the mood board one image and then fashion sketches for that mood board after for the other (4-9) ex.) mood board image - fashion sketch 1 - fashion sketch 1 and then mood board 2 image- fashion sketch 3 - fashion sketch 4

    • @AprilFaith
      @AprilFaith  5 років тому

      @@soobining If I'm not mistaken, I believe you are only to have one mood board for your entire portfolio. By doing so, it will show that you can create a collection rather than individual pieces or designs. Emphasis on the "collection" as FIT really focuses on that cohesiveness. It also applies in the industry to do so. Hope this helps :) and best wishes!

    But i thought u were supposed to make separates: shirt, pants, jacket, and skirt--not a dress. 🤔 But at least I got an idea of what the portfolio should look like. Thanks.

    Hello please help! Im tryna do my portfolio its due in 2 days fml. So for the third project, would it be possible to incorporate my design sketches into the image? I was thinking of doing a collage of the garment being modeled and inserting my sketches along side it. I think my design sketches help show i put in a lot of work to bring that design to life, so id like to incorporate that into my submission but i would not if it goes against what the instructions ask for, it did not say u could not do this but i did notice i hadnt seen anyone use their design sketches in project 3.
    And lastly project 1s instruction has been modified,its the same but they added "imagine you are designing 5 pieces" i take it that my main focus is to design a top jacket skirt pant and show the front and back, but anything extra i add to the outfit is not going to be looked at. Id suppose id make the shoes on my model minimal and avoid over accessorizing? I was really tempted to design a bag but i started going overboard with my bag design on project one; which im getting at would not be appreciated anyhow bc its not a requirement in project 1. Should i just scrap this extraneous design?
    Sorry for the loooong comment! And thank you in advance your video is super informational!

      @AprilFaith  5 років тому

      OMG I never responded!! I'm so sorry!! idk if this will help anymore but yes! the more creative you are for project 3, the better! But again, this portion is focusing on analyzing your sewing construction skills. As for project 1, accessorizing is good! I know my professor was fascinated whenever a student had the complete look (which is what you want to have) Just be sure that it's still cohesive with the overall look and aesthetic of your collection! Look at how the models are dressed for runway shows. Use your observations from that as a guideline :) And I'm sorry again for the delay in responding..! I can't believe I haven't seen this until now! Lmk what you ended up doing and fingers crossed that you get accepted!!

    Hi. I am applying for FIT too but I am not very sure what unit 2X2 fabric swatches is in.. Do you mind explaining? Thanksss

    • @AprilFaith
      @AprilFaith  5 років тому

      omg I never responded!! I'm so sorry!!! but the 2x2 fabric swatches are 2 inches wide by 2 inches length fabric samples of the fabrics you're using for your designs. I hope that clarifies your question and I'm so sorry for the delay!
