  • This is my performance of the opening theme from the TV movie, "Probe." The theme, indeed, the series score was composed by Dominic Frontiere. Mr. Frontiere's other credits include "12 O'Clock High," "The Invaders," Vega$," and more.
When "Probe" went to series, the name was changed to "Search." The series lasted just one season, airing between 1972 and 1973. The series featured three leading men who never shared the screen together: Hugh O'Brian, Doug McClure and Tony Franciosa.

This title definitely has a KPM feel to it. Always glad to hear music from the often overlooked but excellent Dominic Frontier.

Such a cool show. As well as the Invaders, Twelve O'Clock High... For me from Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Rat Patrol, Combat...and many more those were my shows as a kid. I was allowed to watch all of them late show times and school nights...just had to keep my grades up. I was raised on TV from the 60's and 70's. Oh yeah, thought of another one...The Night Stalker. And Banacek

Yes, just you mentioning the shows, reminds me of our particular generation where TV was the only social “network” that connected us all.

I loved this show! I t broke my 14 year old heart when it got canceled. For some reason, many of the shows I enjoyed were canceled after a single season: S.E.A.R.C.H., The Young Rebels, T.H.E. Cat, Battlestar Galactica TOS; Space Above and Beyond.

Well done Neil! Remember the series extremely well, I was about 12-13 watch Search in Black and White TV in Spanish back in Argentina. Favorite was Hugh O'Brien, then Tony Franciosa and Doug McClure bored me! The little camera pendant fascinated me a common gadget in today's cell phones or spy pens. Well elaborated scripts, good action scenes, and near future technology kept my intreest for more. Too bad it lasted only one season. Musical theme superb from DF still relevant today, it's music for any age.

I also watched this as kid in B & W back in the '70's, dubbed in Spanish, but in the Rep de Panamá. As with you, my favorite episodes were the ones with Hugh O'Brien (of Wyatt Earp fame.) Back in the era of "television by appointment/golden age of television" this was definitely "must see" fare. No TV series of any import was complete (or even a "real" series) without its own theme song and in an era of so many good ones this one did more than just hold its own. I also liked the instant access to the ubiquitous world wide sensors and video and, like today, the instant access to the "'infinite database." This gave the protagonistas a virtually prescient advantage over the opposition that was unimaginable in real life back then. This was an all time favorite of mine and I was sorry to it go. Thanks for sharing.

Dom Frontiere is certainly among the best TV composers of the era, including others such as Gil Melle, John(ny) Williams, Ron Grainier, Nelson Riddle and a slew of others who don't come to mind right now...(i'm 65).

So why did the luscious blonde, Angel Tompkins, displayed here nicely in the titles, following the two-hour pilot, only appear in two of the 23 one-hour episodes, Hugh O'Brian episodes BTW? I imagine a good number of the male audience would have advised, "If money/budget is the issue, why don't you 'give us a rest' from Burgess Meredith for several episodes and let Angel back in, surely to brighten and liven-up the hours?"
UA-camrs, there's a story there, somewhere, most definitely.

I'm a long time SEARCH fan & I'm on a SEARCH fan page with other long time fans. there was some discussion that network or studio didn't want Lockwood to have a girlfriend. As you pointed out, she was only in the Hugh O'Brian episodes. there was never any kind of relationship with between any of the Probe Control women & Bianco or Grover. You know in each episode the Probe agent always ended up with some woman in the episode. So this may be a valid, in the studio or network's mind, reason for the character to be discontinued. I think with the SEARCH format, the character could have been continued. Personally I enjoyed the humorous banter, when, say Lockwood's pulse rate jumped when he saw a pretty woman. I thought those scenes were fun. I guess network & studio thought differently.

Both blondes. Was going to type "attractive" but think not for Nichols as think she's not a plays well with others as when that maybe reboot of Charlie's Angels was going on, she was on alot of talk shows and didn't say squat about the series she was STARRING in right at that moment and gabbed about a movie that wasn't going to be out for months from then. Way to go to support your fellow actors.
