When a main or end title runs THIS long there's a possibility the program's final cut ran "short." Thank goodness Dominic's score is a gem to listen to -- normal length or extended.
I always liked this show, and LOVED the theme. I remember liking the O'Brian episodes most (Angel Tompkins was a big reason, I believe). Upon seeing them all again a few years ago, I actually like the Franciosa episodes most. They were the most intricate and well written/intelligent ones. I never understood why this show only lasted one season.
Although I have never come across this series. But the composition for the opening titles is superb! Not to mention the same composer also wrote wonderful music for the TV series Vegas which I am fond of watching. A fan and an admirer from Pakistan.
This is nice. The graphics are tops as is Dominic Frontiere's full, rich score. Another comment is due re its unusual length. I will offer that the studio gave respect to its audience by unusually and generously showing each of the performer's image and name. Furthermore, the gesture pays respect to the "artists," the performers appearing in "Probe." On shows like Aaron Spelling's "The Love Boat" and most of Quinn Martin's one-hour dramas we saw images of the main guest stars (and on QM's shows HEARD their name via announcement, too), but never the co-stars or lesser "players."
What a great show. TBS ran this pilot as a midday movie in ‘82, and my father recorded it. That’s how I discovered this amazing series. I now have both the pilot and the complete series on DVD.
This is and was a favorite tv theme of mine. And I enjoyed the show too. It was cool and awesome for this time in television and if I remember it came on tv on a Friday night. I could stay up watch the show and I remember the theme because it sounded cool and it became a part of my music likes and history. Thank you for posting this and bring back the childhood memories of a kid whose music listening and tastes were still forming.
God, this brings a tear to my eye. I'm 52 and saw this brilliant but brief series in 1974 when I was 10. Can someone please inform me as to how I can purchase this set on DVD without having to go online. Incidentally, I'm from New Zealand. Many thanks.

Before reality tv and computer generated rubbish, we were fortunate to have a show like search /probe, unique in many ways, the first to have 3 rotating lead characters, each in their own way as likeable as the other, and in those times computers and the associated technology was there to serve us, not as it is today where the technologies have a tendancy to control us.
Actually it's the 2nd TV series to have three lead stars in rotation. The 1st was 'The name of the game' from 1968, starring Robert Stack, Gene Barry and....Tony Franciosa. As you may already know, Probe/Search started in 1972. I was 10 when it came out and I remember watching the Pilot movie 'Probe' on ITV in the UK, but we never got the 'Search' series over here. I guess ITV passed up the chance to show it. Maybe it was too expensive for them at the time. A shame, as it looked good.
I was always fascinated with the way Tony Franciosa's voice was an almost-exact match for cartoon cat Snagglepuss. As well as the standard stranger-than-fiction fascination with anyone who would willingly boink Shelley Winters.
"Long, lingering look at Miss Sommer's departure, as Probe's EYEBALLS, FALL OUT!" "Keep it up with the Rhine Maiden, Lockwood, and I'll melt down your ear jack, with some ultrasonic feedback!"
A show like this .....when I was so young watching these shows......they were so slick and professional....I really believed that the world was under control. Seriously. I thought the world was getting better, and better. No really, I'm being serious.
I loved watching this series and TV. And I loved that song too. That series could well come back. The warnner channel could do that. How good it would be!
Agreed. Watched the hard-to-find Charlton Heston drama NUMBER ONE recently, and it has a fantastic score by Frontiere. Very much in the Count Basie relaxed big-band jazz style. Absolutely superb.
@@SteveTheMovieGuy1 Hi Steve. Yes that's a rare one. Haven't seen that since the 1980's where it was last shown. I will definitely check it out, sounds great. There is a radio channel in London called Classic Fm, they have a film night once a week, but unfortunately a total John Williams love-in. The guy on the show thinks he's an expert, sadly there is a huge hole in his musical vocabulary and it makes me very very angry that the name Dominic Frontiere is not in that musical vocabulary. These people think music began and ended with John Williams, they just haven't got a clue, they need guys like us as musical consultants.
Sad to tell you all that Hugh O' Brian playing Hugh Lockwood in the 1972 tv series "Search" and the tv pilot "Probe" has died this week at age 91 cause of death unknown,, he will be missed. RIP Lockwood probe out!!!!
Kudos to Attila George de Lado and John Christopher Strong! These guys NEVER get the credit they deserve (no pun intended!). Oh, and of course, the maestro, the one and only DOMINIC FRONTIERE!
@@vampyros1 I suppose one hears what they more or less want and expect to hear. Personally, I would never equate this to Mancini’s composition except in the most vague fashion.
@@historybuff66 Not everything is subjective in music; the sequence in question is identical in chords and melody. The balance of it bears no resemblance.
Would not be surprised if UPN 9 had reruns of this shit. The true Warner Bros. network UPN was. And UPN 9 was the poppin Warner Bros. affiliate. More than the wack fucking WB.
What's equally poppin of this black shit - this poppin TV show - is that the blackez company made this shit - Warna Brothaz - that gave us "Merrie Melodies"/"Looney Tunes" - the blackest cartoon franchise eva (but I definitely mean the pre-Depatie/Freleng shorts way more as those shorts waz on fia, not knocking DePatie/Freleng and Seven Arts "Merrie Melodies"/"Looney Tunes" but the funniest-as-fuck cartoons came before them. Again I say, the music of Dominic Frontiere MUST be explored!!!!!!!!!
When TV shows had opening sequences, actual music, people who were good on screen and credits someone could read.
The LONGEST opening of any TV show...and I'm happy for it!!!
When a main or end title runs THIS long there's a possibility the program's final cut ran "short." Thank goodness Dominic's score is a gem to listen to -- normal length or extended.
This was the intro for the TV movie Probe, (starring only Hugh O'Brian) which later became the TV series 'Search', with O'Brian and two other stars.
Beautiful Score
@@chuckhampton142 I liked all the guys!
The music makes me want to watch this show! Dominic rules.
Composed by the often overlooked Dominic Frontier!
To those of us who are aware of his superb output for The Outer Limits and Stoney Burke, not overlooked!

Simple reason why Search had one season: It couldn't beat William Conrad!
Another Great TV Theme from Dominic Frontiere! Love this show. I was lucky enough to have purchased the complete series on dvd a few years ago...

They ran it through the 1990s as a regular filler movie.
