Humans are primates just like monkeys. It is traumatising for both mother and baby monkeys to be torn apart from one another. Imagine someone physically ripping your baby out of your arms. They call out for one another for ages. Plus you have to realise that while you may only be purchasing one baby, you are actively participating in keeping a mother trapped in a life of hell, where she is bred over and over only to have all of her babies stolen from her arms. It is cruel.
As monkeys mature they become difficult to manage, especially when males sexually mature. They have hands that can open doors, drawers, windows, fridge, food jars. They are perfectly able to climb everything and anything in your home and they are high energy animals. The sad reality for most “pet” monkeys is that they end up in cages as they mature (imagine being jailed for most of your life through no fault of your own), some have their teeth removed due to biting, and most find their way into being rehomed when their cute baby stage wears off, or sent into rescues or a worse fate. Before you get one go volunteer at a rescue for a while, watch videos of baby monkey channels and then see how long that person has that monkey, usually until it starts to mature and then they get rid of it and get another baby. People really need to think about their impact on the lives of these babies and mothers. Just because we “want” something, doesn’t make it right to have something.
