He looks a lot better in reviews and photos than in the promo pics. The way the shields work is brilliant.
Indeed
A lot of marvel select figures are like that lol. The promos are always worse than the actual product imo
Hmm idk, wonky torso and legs ruin this figure for me. Looking forward to the DST Archangel and Annihilus tho! Proportions/physique look so much better on those
I remember a lot of toy channel trashing this figure when those promo pictures were released😂 don't get me wrong I was not a fan either but when I got the actual figure I was really glad I still bought it.
@chet_inator_gator the mid section is a tube lol. He has no hips really. Idk, I like the figure, I'm just surprised the usual people calling it mcfarlane and hasbro proportions have nothing to say about that
"More accessories than a whole wave of marvel legends" absolutely true, this have to be a quote
And to think this is cheaper than the Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2 (PS5) figure
Diamond Select's PS4 Spiderman was better than the Marvel Legends version
It’s even sadder when you recall that the PS5 Spidey is just a crappy repaint using a body mold that doesn’t even match the game entirely.
In Asia DST is alot cheaper the ML, even the regular release.
Maybe online but around here the diamond select cap is 39.99-55.00 especially FYE in-store
29.99 on amazon and he'll be here next week @johns3153
I love the way they did the shield system, it’s so much better than the dumb clip system hasbro uses for like 10-15 years at this point
MAN I hate that clip so much. You use it once and you get immediate stress marks if the clip is hard plastic, and if it's softer plastic, it stretches and eventually falls off.
The amount of options for such a basic, functioning release is beyond what most may consider necessary. If Hasbro were put out such a release, it would be $45 USD Pulse exclusive in a windowless packaging and all the missing paints one would expect.
Hearing that enthusiasm is great!
Anthony just spits straight facts!!
Marvel select and Jada are the future of domestic action figures
And Neca
@@magicmirror8627and mcfarlane
Using the pointing hand as an actual pointer is pretty much gold!
you can put the shield on the back too.
Yes
How??
It's a small thing, but I really like how the beefy shoulder peg looks when you raise his arms. It looks a lot more like real muscles than most action figure shoulders. The waist to shoulder proportion actually looks like that of a comic book character.
I was definitely turned off by the goofy promotional images, but this is probably going to be my first standard-sized Marvel Select purchase.
Also noticed that meat in the shoulder and how the bi/triceps aren't so obviously bigger like in many Legends.
i once heard that Diamond select has the worst marketing team in the toy industry, now i believe they do
Which is a shame considering the characters they offer. Not all of them are good, but you always get enough for your money.
I love my marvel select carnage
Aesthetically, it is definitely the best looking comic book Carnage figure. The reds could be a bit brighter, but it is an underrated figure for sure.
@@ReeceHoward06 i love it. I only collect carnage from marvel. Ive got the original and the disney store one. I may get the mafex one
@@ReeceHoward06 The only problem with this Carnage is that he's too big even for MS line. He's even bigger than their Venom.
@@magicmirror8627 That too.
about time Diamond Select gets some love
What a great video - the enthusiasm detected in your voice gave a distinct impression that you enjoyed making this video. This Cap appears to be the definitive variant of a classic comic book style. The engineering of the shield is tremendous, and if adopted by other manufacturers, might be the death knell of the accursed clip. I don't mind the arbitrary scaling on its uniform as it reminds me of the comics. I think you will also like the Crimson Dynamo. Thanks again.
thanks for the comments. i have dynamo to review. he looks great. have iron man and titanium man as well
@@AnthonysCustoms Lucky. Enjoy opening them. In fact, you might get away with having Titanium Man and Crimson Dynamo reviewed in one video as a pair. Just don't let it interrupt any work on the basement.
@@AnthonysCustoms Hope you will review Annihilus after he releases
Select figs are awesome. The F4, Groot, Gamora, Immortal Hulk, Red Hulk, Venom, Carnage, Ultron, Collosus, Juggernaut, Psylocke, Rouge, Iceman... they make so many good ones
@@sigerlion8608 I got the Blade figure too. He is pretty great.
It depends, sometimes Diamond Select will release the definitive version of a character, like 2016's Venom (multiple heads and hands, an extra back piece to recreate the "Absolute Madness" look with interchangeable arms) and other times they'll just deliver a paperweight like the Thing figure.
Cap here is one of their better figures.
That Venom is from 2013. Since their TASM1 Spiderman in 2012, DST has been consistently making better figures every few years. I still feel like their Ultron from 2012 is the definitive Ultron.
@@Koolers20 I must've gotten the reissue then, still, if it was 2013, i'd say they were ahead of their time!
Their Thing is a very old figure, they improved a lot since that time unlike hasbro which is stagnating or sometimes even getting worse for 10+ years.
@Koolers20 they released venom twice. Same with carnage different heads ans accessories
Absolutely shocked at how well the final product turned out. I saw the promo pics too months back and thought it looked like a weird alien, yet this seems shockingly good, the proportions and articulation especially. Big genuine woah
Things really changed. Marvel Select used to be some of the worst figures, but for the last couple of years, they’re ones of the best, when it comes to Marvel. So glad to see that, there’s a ToyBiz spirit to these figures and definitely an attitude.
This Captain America is fantastic, I just got him in from Amazon. The knee and elbow joints are done so perfectly, like you mentioned in the review how good they look when posing. Wish Mcfarlane figures would improve on their joint cuts and overall look, some of those DC Multiverse figures look absolutely awful with those hideous joints.
Mcfarlane knees and elbows are horrible most of the time
@@AnthonysCustoms Mcfarlane figs are overall horrible most of the time lul
ye
Dude I love the pointing finger !!!!!!!😅 You needa use that more when you pointing things out, the camera focuses awsome when you use it lol
I'm not even a Captain America fan and this figure looks amazing! I especially love how his shoulders and chest look. Plus the shading all over the body makes it look premium.
This figure perfectly demonstrates what you have been pointing out for so long whenever doing ML reviews. Proportions! Proportions! Proportions! No tiny droopy shoulders, no oversized head, and a brolic looking chest. Those tiny little details really do make a world of a difference. Although I will say that it fell a little short from the waist down. But I can overlook that considering the abundance of accessories it comes with plus all the new sculpt and deco you’re getting. Select really knocked it out of the park with this one.
This cap is amazing. There’s just something about this mold, particularly for the standard “Avengers Era” cap that really takes me back to when I first started reading his comics from the Hero Return era, when guys like Ron Garney, Adam Kubert and Dan Jurgens were illustrating those stories. But I can also see a little bit of John Byrne and Mike Zeck in this cap too. Throw in the rest of the parts and this is hands down the best cap figure in the past 10 years.
The sheer number of people who still defend hasbro is unreal. As always an excellent review 👍
Thanks
Marvel select figures may not be the best ones in the market, but the effort they put into every figure is just amazing
9.9!! Incredible!! The very first pose in the intro even had me and i think this is a brilliant figure. ...I SO hope they do another classic Spiderman sometime soon!
Yesterday I watched a video of a guy who said he was done with collecting, expressing his disappointment and generally unhappiness with figures
But the problem is the guy was constantly buying Marvel Legends and apparently got to the point where he was just buying figures just to buy them, no real attachment. Like you mentioned, there's so many other brands and companies making other figures, even making the same characters, but people continue to buy marvel legends and McFarlane, and put up with their garbage lol
To answer the question of the day, I occasionally buy figures that aren't 6in scale because I have a genuine interest in the character or figure itself if it's an original thing. If it's better than the 6in figure in nearly every way, I'm willing to deal with it being out of scale like with play arts Kai lol
And seeing as I collect and build model kits, the kits are generally taller than like sh Figuarts so I've kinda gotten used to it
ill never understand people who wont branch out from hasbro and refuse to realize those are generally bad figures.
@@AnthonysCustoms Character nostalgia is one hell of a drug.
@@AnthonysCustomsI think what makes it more frustrating/sad is that these collectors don’t even need to go to imports to get a boost in quality. Companies like Neca, Jada, and Diamond select are putting Hasbro (& McFarlane) to absolute shame with higher quality products at comparable price points.
@@justicemagnum5242 even if you don't wanna import there's domestic options out there. Yeah obviously if you want specific characters you might need to import especially if it's not a comic book character or from a western IP but still for general collecting, there's plenty of options
I swear the people who stick to marvel legends and dc multiverse have like Stockholm syndrome at this point
Please explore better options and see that action figures are still fun
I feel I can buy this for the shields alone... It's a damn great figure.
as much as i like this figure, i'm still holding out for the Mafex Cap. i don't mind paying more for their stuff since they usually balance it out with the amount of accessories and they all come with decent stands.
Mafex stands are hot garbage.
@@tacticalcrusader3709 hahahaha😂
Honestly for this price you might as well get both
QOTD: I love buying the occasional 7in figure from McFarlane and shortening the legs, torso, neck, and creating a badass super articulated 1/12 figure. I bought page punchers Superman and now he's exactly 6.5 inches and better articulated than some Mafex.
I usually collect 6 inch figures but I will definitely get this figure (+ I love Cap being tall as heck so I can headcanon him into my 1/12 collection :p)
I've been a Marvel Select collector for well over a decade. The only toyline that's actively gotten better every year.
wow, i'm a kid again. yes, this is the best cap figure ever.
I REALLY wish diamond select were 6 inch scale. And unfortunately Legends will always be the main line simply for the fact that they release a wider variety of characters then any other company will ever make, so they're always gonna be part of the display.
Should have mentioned the other toy company that produces a 7 inch scale line on almost the same cost with no effort on accessories but rather comes with a special card holder lol
He did he said briefly that they make terrible figures.
McFarlane is 🚮
At the very least Mcfarlane has lower price like under 25$ but i saw an infrcted batman repaiht variant for 30$ so there s also that.
@@tonileo9849 that has been their modus, reuse and repainting and label it with whatever exclusive on a premium box lol
McFarlane has it's goods and worst if you want best of McFarlane check their violater figure or the new doomsday vs Superman figure, or check their monolith figure you will know difference for me McFarlane, neca and diamond select is best line because this is what I can afford
QotD: To be honest, the bulk of my figure purchases these days is McFarlane so its closer to 1/10 scale. Tbh Im just running out of space and dealing with having an overabundance of stuff… so Im trying to maintain that scale unless something just blows it out of the water.
Thanks for the review, it's convinced me to pick this figure up soon - I've also got Vision on the way, and I'm keeping an eye on Hulk prices on eBay. I'd love to see reviews for those two (if you can find or have received the latter) and Silver Centurion, who looks just incredible. If you have the ability to review older releases, Colossus and a re-review of Sabretooth (esp with the recent Legends release to compare/contrast) would be great, too. Fingers crossed that DST's upcoming Archangel and War Machine turn out well.
Marvel Select scale is perfect to do poses with Mcfarlane figures. You can enjoy playing them together because they are on the same height.
Thank you for your reviews. They're so helpful in making decisions on which figures to spend my hobby funds on. I was on the fence about this one but now i think I'll pick him up.
happy to help
And this is only with 16 points of articulation? Selects are fairly durable and use the smaller pins that don't show that much so would like to see more figures use the double joints having better range.
For thr QOTD, I sometimes get the McFarlane line as well as Selects like Venom and Vision. I kind of want to get this guy so he can be displayed with the non-round shield while my 20th anniversary Cap uses the more iconic one.
reminds me alot of the toybiz series 1 cap, which is still my fav cap.
Great Figure. Love Marvel Select !!!
Thanks for the review.
Wow the most positive review ive seen in a while hell ya
legends are still in business because of the insane roster of characters and great scaling between all of them which allows team builidng, unfortunately other companies struggle with scaling and just don't have enough characters to complete a single team.
Great-looking figure; definitely agree this deserved the rare ‘10’ for accessories; the rotating function of the shields is what pushes it over the edge for me. What a thoughtful feature to have. And all this at such a respectable price point
I collect selects only, but trha because of value for dollar, typically unique sculpts, actual paint jobs and tons of accessories. This cap and the WW2 Hydra diorama cap are great. The only issue is some weird articulation cuts and the lack of articulation compared to some lines
I really don’t collect 7 inch figures aside from two Spawn figures I have on their own little shelf, but damn… Figures like this Cap make me want to get more. There used to be a limit on how much articulation Marvel Select figures could have, but Cap here completely breaks that rule. He has more articulation than many Marvel Legends.
If Marvel Select ever decides to make an entirely new Venom with this amount of articulation and engineering, then that right there would be the perfect Venom. It could probably be fudged into other collections too, given how inconsistent his size is in the comics and other media.
Using his pointing hand to point stuff out was hilarious ngl
This looks absolutely incredible! Great review!
QOTD: Yeah I tend to snag things even if they aren’t what I mainly collect. Especially if they are good.
This figure really looks awesome. I didn't like it when it was revealed first, but he looks nice. Plus that shield thing they did with the plug in thing is so awesome. I wanna get my hands on this cap now
The Marvel Select Fantastic Four figures are amazing. Sculpts and accessory loadout are unbelievable for the price point. I don't normally get this scale either, but I made an exception for them; Mr. Fantastic in particular is hard to do as an action figure, but they nailed it (and his powers make him easier to fudge into a 1/12 display), and the sculpt on Sue Storm is easily the best that I've ever seen. Only disappointment for the time being is Thing, probably only because he's several years old now and they haven't made an update.
I’m down with the Marvel Select figures..the 1st I purchased was the Planet Hulk, not the best articulation but damn the sculpt is next level, haven’t purchased a legend since, enjoying the taller chunkier depiction of characters
Thanks for the killer review mano, fun and informative as always 🫡
Marvel Select made my favorite version of Red Hulk, easily beats out the Marvel Legends version. As for the scaling, I tend to pick up Marvel Selects for larger characters: Titanium Man, The Hulks, etc. I like more big characters larger than life, it’s good for scaling for displays and makes things look more dynamic.
Watching Anthony so happy with a Marvel figure is so funny and cute! Hahaha! Once in a lifetime moment.
First time buying a figure specifically based on your review. Appreciate the content.
Enjoy
This figure looks so good and comes with so much. I don't collect this scale and try not to but when a figure looks this good and is affordable I might have to support it.
I usually only get the select figures of the larger characters, Red Hulk being the best example, to put next to my Legends ones.
Scale, variety, and articulation are the answers to how Marvel Legends can keep being justified. However, I'm excited about this Cap and can't wait to add it to my Select shelf. I've always said... slowly but surely Marvel Select, Mafex and others will replace the core Marvel Legends characters in my collection. This will be a very handsome addition to the shelf!
Take a shot every time Anthony says hasbro lmao😂 great review! Might have to get this now
They just keep coming out with HEAT! I pre ordered the select War Machine and Archangel too. I expect those both to be hits as well.
Been wanting a good Cap figure for a while. This one looks amazing.
I love the aesthetic! Great sculpt! Great price point too! Alot of options on the look! MS been killing it !
I just got 3 of these figures today! I’m gonna modify one to see if I can scale it down to marvel legends size. And on another I’m gonna try to put McFarland Superman legs on him to give them more bulk.
I would love to buy a Marvel Select, but the scale kills it for me. The only 7inch figures I have are NECA Xenomorphs and it works because they`re aliens, but having a Captain America that towers over a figuarts Venom just aint gonna fly.
Edit: Nevertheless you`re 100% right when it comes to Hasbro cutting corners, I did not even think about their Square knee issue until you just brought it up. The sculpt on this Cap looks great and it goes to show how much more room Hasbro has for improvement.
For years I collected Marvel Select over Marvel Legends, mainly because here in the UK at least from my experience collecting in the 2000's/early 2010's, I just had better luck finding them, and they fit in with the NECA and McFarlane figures I was collecting, Hasbro didn't really register on my radar. Sure there wasn't loads of figures being released and I was still fairly young and didn't really pay too much attention to different lines, I just saw nice looking Marvel figures and bought them.
2017 was when I finally started collecting Marvel Legends and ever since then I've only picked up the occasional Select figure that can fit into that display, shuffling the rest off to another shelf or into boxes until I find somewhere for them. Sure Select figures are more limited in places and have drawbacks that haven't changed in almost 20 years, but it's undeniable that there's a real sense of artistry to them that Hasbro figures lack, just solid paint shading throughout most of their figures, and generally they look better. I just got the Marvel Legends Angel and the Marvel Select Crimson Dynamo a few days ago, both I like well enough but that Crimson Dynamo has remained on my desk for a lot longer just with how good it looks, and for the price I think you get more out of it.
I'll be reviewing him soon
Marvel Select is heavent sent for us Mcfarlane collectors, my DC x Marvel display is coming together nicely. Plus the upcoming Select figures Annihilus, Warmachine, Archangel are all looking fine.
I sold off most of my marvel legends. I kept some wolverines but.. I think I’m jumping into this line.
Do they scale well with other marvel select figures? Like.. I know Hulk is big but is he bigger than this Cap for example or are they all around the same size, height wise? I hope not, that would drive me insane lol
I agree wholeheartedly with this review. I bought 3 Caps!
Is there a way to scale it down to 6 inch?
I usually collect MS only for bigger characters like Juggernaut, Uatu, Anti-Venom, Thanos or Abomination, but I also have MS Human-Torch, best Johnny Storm excluding Mafex and fly stand helps to not notice size difference with smaller Fantastic Four. Can't wait for their Annihilus and hope they will release Blob one day, because hasbro's last one is meh, and the first one is too expensive.
Love DST accessories, just got Allen from invincible and the value is insane for the price!
I wish Selects would release a new Eddie Anti-Venom with their more modern articulation. The old one has like no decent leg articulation.
This deserves more hype
Their upcoming archangel looks fantastic as well!
Almost any company who does marvel besides Hasbro does a great job. The thing that kills me with Hasbro is how well they make GIJoe vs how poorly they make Marvel Legends. If they put in as much effort with ML as GIJoe they would have a 10/10 figure line
Maybe 1:10 (aka 7") is going to take over.
Maybe not yet, but here's a LOT of fantastic figures and lines in that scale right now and more seem to be coming.
First off, all the Chinese companies seem to operate in that scale. Xesray (Gladiators), Maestro Union (Furay Planet), all the companies doing 3rd party Warcraft stuff, etc.
There's Four Horsemen with Mythic Legions and now Cosmic Legions. Mattel is pushing ahead with their Masterverse line, and they're actually great bang for your buck. NECA too. And McF keeps growing, even with all the issues that line has; people just can't get enough of Todd's tablescraps.
Obviously 1:12/6" won't die out, since companies like Jada, Valaverse and a few others are pushing hard on that front, and let's face it, even Hasbro is still doing well with Classified. But I feel like this scale has definitely been losing steam.
I have collected Selects for years. I noticed the change when Hasbro first took over from Toybiz. Marvel Select with their great, original sculpts and bases at the time were better value for money for me.
Apparently the straps on the shields can be removed to place the shield on the harness.
Yes
This might be the best Cap until MAFEX
Damn, I might have to add this to the collection......
I hope they do daredevil like this next!!! This is amazing
I have enough Marvel Select at this point that I have a place for them, otherwise there are a few characters I'll buy in whatever size because I have shelves of them specifically.
My favorite select figure is their hulk it’s very clean and I think the scale works well enough
I had gotten the silver centurion iron man from MS, and he is my favorite iron man figure. Don't matter that he is a little tall he still looks awesome. Feeling same about this cap
That Silver Centurion is easily the best domestic Ironman figure in the 1/12-1/10th scale range, especially for it's retail price. I'm hoping they visit some more of his classic armors. I love that figure, possibly my 2nd or 3rd all time favorite comic book Ironman figure.
I wish it was 6 inch scale and had better torso articulation. But the figure is so good, with great designs on the shields, and a bunch of accessories, thet I'm going to have to get it.
I also cherry pick the select stuff and have been quite pleased lately. Titanium Man was awesome and I just got Crimson Dynamo in last week. Very well done.
I sincerely hope Hasbro moving a bit away from their standard wave formulas AND the brand leadership shake up will ultimately help them to pick up the ball again. I know they can do it. Especially when you look at the Joes line! I know budgets and licensing stuff gets in the way but damn!
QotD: Sometimes. If it's a character I can justify being on the bigger side, like Spawn, then yeah, I'll usually go for it especially if the figure is legit good.
Also, I recommend hunting down the Marvel Select Iceman. It was my first Select figure and I was way more impressed by it than I thought I was going to be.
I have it to review already. Soon
This is good, I was already a 7 inch figure collector, but I do occasionally get some marvel legends figures and I get a lot toy biz figures
I feel the same way about Diamond Select..they make great LARGER figures.. but I will buy ONLY the ones that I can fit in my Marvel Legends collection
That being said..Im a Captain America fan in general & I might pick this up just to have it..
Anyways keep up the great work brother..I'm always looking forward to your Marvel Legends reviews 👑
In my opinion this is the best classic costume Captain America figure made
Ive always wanted to grab a select but I don’t ever see a good reason to get one since I have the figures in 6 inch scale. I do have a few McFarlanes, but I do try to mod them to be in 6 inch scale since that’s what scale I collect.
Do you plan on reviewing the marvel select silver centurion? Its really awesome
I do
I appreciate how the knee and elbow joints aren't hideous.
Great review, you really should have used the Legends Tobey to compare the weird ass cuts in the knees and elbows lol
he looks like a Mcfarlane scale Mafex almost... im impressed
I do buy figures that are out of 1/12 (6 inch) scale, but they're mostly neca and a kinda separate figure collection than my ML figures. Sik
This human face is one of the best for Cap. The shaded is great too. The shields are totally superior than Hasbro.
There’s just so much coming out nowadays I made a promise to myself no matter what it is if it still has pins in a modern toy I’m good. It does look great but like you said I don’t need a giant captain America on my shelf.
00:54 probably because Hasbro stuff is in the 6-in range where this usually isn't
