- Big thanks to Subiebros for their DIY valve cleaning kit for the 2015-up Subaru WRX's. The FA20DIT engines and are notorious for it's intake valve carbon build up due to the design of direct injection.

Thanks for doing this in-depth video of the walnut blasting! Going to do mine in the upcoming days and have been watching this video over a few times to get the process drilled in, that and referring to the service manual. You're the only channel that goes into this much detail with the process for the FA20. I'm sure FA20 owners are going to find this resourceful down the road as i have!
I want to say Thank you to WRX Channel and DJ, because I have done this Blasting procedure after taking notes from these videos. I am in 🇵🇦 Panama City, Central America.
Thank for the love bro!
AWESOME fellow Panamanian, i live in chicago but im from la chorrera panama. will be doing this procedure myself this weekened, this is a great video. Saludos :)
Thank you for having this video! I had an extra bracket I found in your video!
Dude thanks for the 2 videos because I’ll be doing mine next week need videos like that
These videos should be part of a maintenance bible because this job looks insane. I'm sure it's easier than it looks, but it's still not easy. Remembering where everything goes seems daunting. I don't know about this job...gives me heartburn just thinking about it.
Thanks again for having me come out Jay R!
you came there??? dang!! i would invite you to stop by any time bro... next time you're in virginia.
Thanks for this bro! Im about to do this and open up my rexy again.
This was so helpful. Just did mine yesterday! So I didn’t pull the fuel pump fuse OR drain the gallon of coolant. Not saying it’s necessarily a good idea, but I think almost the exact amount of coolant and fuel came out of mine. I just had a towel ready and safety glasses on incase fuel blasted into my face
I've been waiting to see this one to see how the walnut blasting works!!
Yo woah this is so interesting to see how that work with the walnut media.. I was wondering what media would be used to do this kind of thing. Subibro's kit looks awesome, and for a good price too! Ahhh, I'm sure I'll have to keep this for the future if I need to do mine someday :(
me too man, about to watch it.
Awesome video! I’m doing this job this weekend. Can I simple pour the coolant back in the radiator when done? or is there a procedure?
ever thought of just misting water into the intake? It does wonders to carbon buildup. As long as you do it while the engine is up to temp.
When you are releasing the fuel pressure, once the fuse is removed, do you keep the gas cap open while you idle it? Also, is it not hard/bad for the engine to let it idle without the proper fuel pressure?
What is the light blue cap next to your dip stick?
How did you get the wand to fit the harbor tools gun ?
All of this when there's got to be a way to prevent buildup from the beginning or have a access hole designed for maintenance or something.
yeaaaaaaah........ I'll be paying the dealer to do this. Looks like a complete PITA!
Definitely need a buddy to do this and a full day lol. I feel like I'd definitely just take this to a shop and get errr done.
It's so much easier than it appears.
My WRX Channel OK. I'll fly you out to do mine when its time. Round trip plane ticket will still be cheaper than the stealership!😂😂
interesting, good alternative
When do you put the radiator cap back on
Is the procedure nearly the same for the Ascent FA24 engine?
Subispeed shows removing the fuse that controls the fuel pump, then running car until it dies to prevent fuel shooting out.
Is this an STI Im thinking of getting a WRX but idk if I need an STI or just a WRX
When should this be done?
couldnt you just siphon the coolant out of the radiator?
thank god I have an ej 🙏
Wonder what would happen if you deleted those flap inserts that he pulled out from the intake at 21:30
Its been done along with deleting the flaps in the lower tgv
What's the consensus about those flaps? These guys cleaned them up and put them back. Are they important to leave in? My thought would be to remove any and all obstructions but if they direct airflow a certain way I wouldn't want to mess with them.
I talked with my tuner and he advised me, without wavering, to leave those in. So they are correct to clean them and put them back like in this video. However if you are talking about the plastic dividers that are built into the Lower TGV, then yes, you can remove them. Personally I got a CNC machined replacement for the entire Lower TGV from P&L Motorsports. Same for the Upper TGV.
oh man!!!! i don't think i would deal with this in my own garage... i could, but man this is a huge job..
Aos or catch can would work?
It will help slow down the build-up but won't fully prevent carbon deposits.
dude, you should be able to make a custom URL for your main channel page at this point, i forget what menu its in.
When I did mine it sounded cammed and through a check engine light about low fuel pressure. Not a big deal, but thought I would say something
Also I did not remove any coolent and had zero leaks. I also don't have EGRs, but it might be that I have a IAG AOS
what do mean by sounded cam? how to resolve this issue?
this guy is talking about a diagram under the fuse lid, when the fuses are already color coded and numbered .. haha!
16:13 subie vape gang
The only thing is they dont talk about the charge pipe at all. There is a big plastic pipe in the way that needs to be either removed or ripped off the manifold. Pulling on it really hard does work but I do not recommend that.
19:23 hahahahahaha

Second!!! lol
If the car just had port injection, none of this work would be necessary.
I'd fuck all of this up and ruin the car. Just pay someone.
This makes me not want to buy new WRX.
$100 for that kit lol BMW uses the same walnut blasting wand u can get it for $20 and the nuts n bolts cost like $2 at lowes and the adapter that they sale for extra $10 u can get that for $3 google if u don't believe me
We put many hours engineering along with 5 different prototypes and revisions into the cleaning adapter so that it would be optimized for both reach when the wand is inserted and would have maximum flow for the vacuum. Also so that it would fit perfect on all 4 intake ports. And the actual BMW kit is well over $100 ;) Also we custom machine the adapter ourselves so we are the only ones that sell this specific one.
No it's not N54 Vacuum Blaster Adapter Mfg Part #
81292208033 www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/n54-vacuum-blaster-adapter/81292208033/
You're listing only the wand. The adapter plate is the most expensive part. Here is the BMW adapter: www.bavauto.com/catalog/product/view/id/115446/?B1100004-335ICOUPE-2008-580908&gclid=CjwKEAjw3KDIBRCz0KvZlJ7k4TgSJABDqOK7HLufhn1TQlE_7pMxZBLOmov1Zray_drqzBhyPJ6oVxoCHPjw_wcB So you're at $106 without a blaster adapter + shipping for the BMW version (we offer free shipping)
I was talking about the wand because I don't think a piece of plastic would cost more but the ur right it would cost more because it not plastic also BrassCraft 1/4-in x 1/4-in Threaded Coupling Coupling Fitting m.lowes.com/pd/BrassCraft-1-4-in-x-1-4-in-Threaded-Coupling-Coupling-Fitting/50359348 $10 really
Steve, we are a small shop that makes our own parts here in the USA we aren't a mega corporation that makes thousands of units, it would be a lot cheaper if we made thousands in China. Our adapter piece is made from high strength nylon and should last many many cleanings. Although that adapter appears to be the same, it will not work, ours are custom machined to fit the blaster wand the adapter you pointed out has too small of an inner diameter.
The male piece that identifies as a female piece. Do you see how stupid that sounds to a car part or electrical connector? Even more with humans!
