- In this video, I'll show you the solar panel system that my neighbors installed and how the solar installer should have done better. I'll also give you some tips to help you try to avoid having this happen to you if you decide to go solar in the future. #energysage #badsolar #solarpowered
I recommend using EnergySage when going solar (affiliate link):

I love this guy, Brother LDS reliance 😂
Another huge thing is how panels are strung, if set up in serial, and parts of that string are in shade in the morning and part int the afternoon, even parts in full sun all day may cut total production, but if the ones in morning shade are strung separately, the full sun separately, the afternoon separately, it could increase total production a lot.
Correct. It could be even worse than we can see.
At least for our local code, those bottom two south facing panels are too close to the ridge. Our code requires 18" spacing of PV modules from any roof ridge due to wind lift. We are in a hurricane prone area mind you.
I didn't even think of that, but I would agree with that being as we are in Tornado Alley. Good point!
You can thank RSS for my view today. I didn't see a notification for your video once again. I did get it in my RSS feed though. I'm seeing lot's of stuff I would have missed. I just looked at my watch history for your channel and I've missed around 12 of you videos this year without realizing it. I have the bell set to all. I logged all my notifications for months and YT sends them but some drop off if you don't see them immediately.
Yeah, UA-cam no longer favors my channel. At all. So I will keep uploading some stuff but it isn't going to be a huge priority any more, unfortunately.
@@LDSreliance It's not just you. Well content is improving UA-cam in general is going downhill. I think it was about six months ago when I really started to notice a huge decline. Google itself no longer offers the great search results it once did either.
I agree. They are getting more and more greedy and focusing more and more on the wrong things. They are some people making really high quality content out there making peanuts compared to the 0.1% that get all the clicks.
We’re planning a totally of grid solar voltaic system NOT because it is more economical (in Hawaii that’s really debatable, it may be), but because our grid is very unreliable. We will likely maintain a connection to back feed the grid when our batteries are full, but really don’t expect anything from that (Hawaii).
I'd suggest a diversion load as opposed to feeding the grid. They likely won't pay or won't pay much for your excess power. But you can easily feed a hot water heater or something else when the batteries are full.
Hey...I use Hilco Electric! North of Waco.
Nice! Hopefully their rates are good :)
If there exists such a time that it becomes economically feasible for an individual to install solar panels on their residential dwelling, the utility companies have failed in their fiduciary duty.
They exist to serve the people, not the other way around.
@@LDSreliance And if it ever becomes economically feasible for a private individual on a small scale to produce their own electricity, the utiltiy company and its economics have screwed up along the way big time
I can agree with that. They are mismanaged, bloated, bureaucratic and inefficient. They don't innovate or invest in upgrades unless they are forced to. They also design their entire system around demand response, which is fine but then that means the rest of the year those capital investments don't pay off. There is no flexibility in the system and they don't want to enter into cogeneration agreements like they should.
But we can't lay the entire blame at their feet. The EPA and other well-meaning but unconstitutional government entities and regulations choke the energy sector and have driven up costs exponentially for little real benefit. You could completely defund them ($10B per year) and build a solar farm(s) producing 10 gigawatts of solar, which would power 7,500,000 homes per year (according to the NREL). That is over 5% of households in the United States. If that farm(s) produced 15GWh of energy, that reduces carbon emissions by 12.7 billion pounds. And it would do so for 30 years or more.
@@LDSreliance And then they have the audacity to lecture Texas' most reliable, efficient, and cheapest electrical grid in the world
OK
Thanks, David!
