  • What we know:
Matt is working with a financial technology company who is using Island, the Enterprise Browser, for their internal staff. They encountered an issue with one of their legacy VPN platforms that suffered an outage and prevented users from connecting. Fortunately, Matt had already helped them set up Island Private Access for secure connections to their internal resources and word spread quickly.
    What we learned:
When their VPN connection went dark, a few folks on the Infrastructure team opened up the Enterprise Browser and attempted a connection to their internal sites. Because they had already deployed the Island Private Access connectors, the private connection was instantly available. The team updated the configuration in the Island Management Console to make it available to more users, who quickly pivoted from using VPN to using Island.
    What happened next:
One of the key features for Island Private Access is that it makes a direct connection between the browser and the internal application or website. Unlike a traditional VPN that routes all traffic through the VPN connection, this is ideal for organizations with a mix of SaaS, public, and private resources. The backend connection is fast and easy to configure, and for all their users with the Enterprise Browser, accessing private resources is no different than any other webpage in the browser. The VPN outage wasn’t a planned event, but the timing made for a perfect example of how they can simplify their networking infrastructure with Island.
