The power allocation is probably the weirdest mechanic to understand, most others are similar to other strategy games (some of the combat stat interactions are a bit surprising too I guess). The idea you can choose between spending power to generate a consumable resource (mana) vs spending power to _permanently_ increase your skill at _spending_ that resource always felt like an odd balance, but works out pretty well. I probably still don't keep my research rate low enough in most games though :)
Not directly related to this video, but, I wanna say, hadriex has taught me more about master of magic than pretty much anyone. Having watched him play for about 100 hours though this video isn't necessarily created for me. For those of you with 13minutes to spare and not 100 hours though, this is the perfect fit. Very entertaining watch though. Loved the editing.
Thanks man. You got me into this game and I randomly wandered in here on UA-cam. Already managed to finish one game on normal difficulty and I understand the rules of it already :-).
The glittering around the nodes actually gives summoned creatures of that particular school of magic +2 to all stats when in a battle that happens underneath it. ;)
Well done! I learned more in 10 minutes with your unscrupulous dictation than I have in countless other "tutorials". I know the game isn't hard, but learning what all the basic crap that you just went over is awesome. Your kinda funny too.
Not all retorts are created equal. That said, in my experience I find retorts are a little stronger then spellbooks. What you start as (orcs, halflings, ect.) have the largest effect.
there are strats that dont pick any, if you go full on a single magic type you can get some op starting spells and research end game spells much sooner
Maybe. Master of Magic for Windows is the current (and final) version, there's a ton of options and if disabling raiders isn't already an option, I'm sure a modder can make it so easily :)
a how to video lol okay lets learn together with Hadriex and dont forget Hadriex sensey's most important lesson "everything is vulnerable to fire if you have enough of it :D" I would argue that blue dragon and storm giants are the best summon of the game and phantom warrior as combat summon. My advice is never pick black, its hoplesly the worst color of magic in this game. and allays pick Warlord best quirk of the game.
I actually really like death. Storm giants are good, really good for their point in the game. And phantom warriors are amazing. But sprites and shadow demons are amazing too.
Sprites are good in the beginning as a quick swarm, bears too, Greens start advantage, with summon cheaper quirk. Unfortunately Shadow demons the best thing of Balck (Demon Lords are too expedience and i rather have Blue dragon, red dragon,Green Colossus any day), so whats my problem with shadow demons, thy are to slow 2 movement is terrible, too expensive, even with summoner quirk. Also Sera made the AI be able to deal with them, 1 petrify is enough to ruin them. Thy are either make or break like the Death knights, but in their category everyone else has better summons except white. Storm giants are my faw in their category because what is the biggest threat in the game heroes, Storm giants kill heroes. 1 hero can kill infinite shadow demon, 4 storm giant can kill almost any hero.
I am not sure it's basically Civilization, because I could play Civilization but was absolutely confused by MoM, even tho I completed it once on Normal or smth(and still was confused). I wish I had tutorials back then, really liked the game's aesthetics.
I started playing the master of magic remake and it's was so buggy but I liked what I see . Someone recommend me the original cuz apparently it's a lot better. So here I am.
I just rage quit this game because apparently city walls are useless and even BOARS can just walk right over them and raze my town..... I remember loving this game as a kid, now I don't know why as even 9 year old me understood the concept of STONE WALL DEFEATS PIG! Like did the designers not know how physical matter works? I can't abide any game that can't get the concept of stone blocks, stacked high, keeping medium sized animals at bay. Is this a bug with Casters of Magic or something? If this is driving me insane now, I know 9 year old me would have been smashing the F@cking computer. Like I'm trying to remember another game failing on such a fundamental level and I cannot. It's like if you had a strategy game where food behaved like lava and the more you grew the more chaos and destruction spread through your city.
As a completely new player this was actually really helpful. I had no idea what was going on in the mana allocation screen. Thanks man!
:)

I remember learning how to read the language/code of un-researched spells so that I could know if I got what I wanted from the beginning of the game.
Never gone that far myself.
I did that as well 🤣🤣 back in 1995

Dude this video is extremely well made! :) Congrats! You did this fantastic game justice!
:)
Probably the best fantasy turn-based strategy game ever.
I, and many others, still play it (and have a lot of fun) after 30 years.
Yup. I stream it twice a week to this day :) Been playing it since back when it was still in stores.
It's still a very difficult game.
Death knights are almost impossible to kill.
Holy cow, the wonderful labcoat action at the end! Its still around! Thx a bunch dude.
:)

Great intro to the game, love your style of explaining it!
13:13 my lucky drow number. Good jorb. Best trick for rebels, still the tax skeletons!
I cracked up when you started talking about the gnolls just shedding on everything. Lmao!
:)
are you sure he said shedding

and counters spells of opposing schools.

Thank you. I really think 99% of tutorials are made by people who never asked themselves 'how do I make a good tutorial?'
@@Hadriex Maybe they need a tutorial-making tutorial.
@@HansLemurson lol. Maybe I'll do that someday as an april fools day video or something.

Arent the upper picks (retorts) not better in long way than spell picks?
Not all retorts are created equal. That said, in my experience I find retorts are a little stronger then spellbooks.
What you start as (orcs, halflings, ect.) have the largest effect.

This is has been so helpful. It's so weird that this game does not even have a tutorial campaign lololol
Its got a manual.
Im looking for MoM v1.0. I don't like raiders. Is there a way to disable raiders in the newer versions?
Maybe. Master of Magic for Windows is the current (and final) version, there's a ton of options and if disabling raiders isn't already an option, I'm sure a modder can make it so easily :)
Ok this was dam funny and informative at the same time. Well done!
:)
Thanks! First time checking it out, it's a cute little game but also so full of stuff to do!
:)
I just got this game and your video is great!
:)
one of the best games ever. love it
:)
loved that game when it first came out - late game would always crash for me.

Well now's a great time to get into the game. We finally got mods :)
great voice over
:)
Thanks! Great video, man!
:)
i love magic, and i love mastering it. 10/10 GOTY 1994
:)
Excellent
solid tutorial but you didn't give the most important direction there is to give: always pick Tauron portrait :)
lol. No more ultimate chaos mage if you steal the portrait, buuuut, you'll still have to deal with the prick Jafar.
I started playing the master of magic remake and it's was so buggy but I liked what I see . Someone recommend me the original cuz apparently it's a lot better. So here I am.
So, basically you're looking to get 'Master of Magic for Windows'. That's the current version of the original game.
Cheers 👍
great!
Its looks more like a mix of civilization with Magic (MTG) =D
That is exactly what it is
came out a year after both of them...hmmm
The only good MTG vidya is Master of Magic kek

Forever I refused to even build the things since they always left the gate open.
This game is horrendously unbalanced, but that makes me like it all the more.
lol
