The shame of it is that the same person made both games. If I recall, Microprose was in trouble during that time which is why MoM sequels were never produced. Only Civ got picked up by the next company.
@@jamesyoung151 unfortunately not - both games were published by MicroProse, founded by Sid Meier, but Master of Magic was a different developer. MicroProse was the developer as well as Publisher for most of the ‘Sid Meier’s…’ games. MoM dev SimTex went on to develop Master of Orion, which was a great game in its own right and did get sequels. Still salty they picked MoO to continue instead of MoM too though. The actual Sid Meier games went on to his next company Firaxis, MoM never had any connection at all to that.
25:40 That mechanic ("it costs more to rush something you haven't started yet) is also a mechanic in most civilisation games. I believe it's because getting a building in one turn is a lot more powerful than getting one in two turns in certain situations. For example, if there's an invading army on its way and you need to make as many units as you can before it arrives.
Great vid! Just picked this up on Steam and this has helped me a lot. Tried playing it after just watching your brief intro video and ended up getting my 2 lizardman units killed fighting ruins so I figured I needed something more in depth!
Thanks for the video! I just set up a dos/Win95 machine and I was looking to finally get to play this game for the 1st time. I remember loving the demo as a kid but never got to play the full game. I loaded it up and have to admit I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. I feel like I"m read to give it a solid effort now. Thanks!
Just checking, does the GOG version include the community patch? And when you say the DLC do you mean caster of magic? Great video by the way, it helps a lot :)
I just bought this, but when I run the community patch version on GOG it doesn't have battles, but it is all auto-combat and I don't even get to see the screen. Do I miss out on a lot ?
Still one of the greatest games ever made. Such a crime that Civilization got sequels and this didn't.
I agree.
Been many attempts to make a game like MoM, but I have yet to see its equal.
@@Hadriex What would you say is the game that got closest to nailing the formula?

@@Edramon53 Oh man, I completely forgot to include SimTex. Damn, my bad. That said. MoM has never been surpassed as far as a 4x fantasy game goes.

Yeah, I believe Caster of magic removed it.

Now I like the idea of evil Hadrox so much, that I want to see a stream with him wearing his evil labcoat. Would invite him into the underdark too!

Glad I could help :)
the lizard description says they can't build builder's hall yet you are building it in your second town 35:42? i don't understand
i like this guy. i like his reviews. i like his channel. i like his beard. good internet thing.
:)
In theory you can have an undead unit if your hero kills something with a Vampiric weapon.
Ah, didn't think of that.

The GOG version includes the community patch, and yes, the DLC is Caster of Magic.
1:38 I like Warlord all minion counts :D
Chaos and corruption....seems the evil twin hadrox came out of the closet.

Try opening the game, hit 'load game' then hit 'settings' and then look for 'quick combat' and the lower left hand corner. Turn that off.
@@Hadriex Will check that out. Thanks! Otherwise do you think it is better not to have auto combat?
wall of fire works correctly in original? i'm not sure...
As far as I remember it only affects your units and not the AI's. But things like that are fixed in the community patch.
This tutorial assumes you're playing the community patch. Should have mentioned that int he video.
spearmen and swordmen are standart for all except dwarves as i remember. cause they don't have spearmen
Your memory is correct :)
i'd prefer hell hounds and eldrinch weapon in chaos
