So all the comments that a 997 is better IMO are way off, sorry.
@@LowBoostFilms My experience is with early 99 996's, not 996.2. With option 408 hollow spoke wheels they come in under 2900lbs. Tough to get that nimble on a 997.1. Also hydraulic steering and cable throttle make the 99 special, no nannies. I had a new 997.1 launch vehicle and two 99 996's which I prefer any day YMMV.
Have you ever tracked them? My buddy has a 997.1S and he is significantly faster in that than his 996.1. Like 4-5 seconds faster on a 2.1 mile track. The weight doesn’t make a huge difference, especially that it’s stiffer, better power to weight, bigger brakes, etc.
@@LowBoostFilms We're talking about two different things. 996.1 feels way more nimble and I don't track. For me that makes the 996.1 my choice. Your buddies 997.1S can beat a 964 turbo on same track. But is it better than a 964 turbo? I dare say 'no way'. But I respect your opinion.
Yes we are talking about two totally different things, on track at 997.1S is superior. But you and I both might agree a 996 might be better on the street.
No one discusses the the 911 996 40AE Jahre. It's such an incredible auto and it's forgotten. I have one. A beautiful driving experience - interior, exterior, responsiveness, and X51 boost to 345bhp. Would only trade it for a 992 GT3.
I want to go the opposite way. I currently own a 1999 911 manual coupe I paid 11k in 2016 due to being the height of social media IMS, RMS scare and a 1979 928 and want to sell them both for a late 70's - 80's air cooled 911. On paper a water cooled 99 911 beats say a 1980 SC hands down but it's the things that cannot be quantified are where the old air cooled 911's beats any modern water cooled 911. I'm 57 so this may be hard for younger enthusiast to understand but I grew up in the 80's watching movies like No Man's Land (1987) and Against all Odds (1984) with old air cooled 911's and that what I gravitate to. This also seems to be reflected in the prices as well.
I totally get that, it’s part of the reason why I like my 996 was because of “gone in 60 seconds”. It’s more about how a car makes you feel than anything.
It will never be too late to buy a 996. It will always be the poor man's Porsche. Because it's so ugly. Yes, it may rise slightly in price, but other 911s will still rise more. What one should buy is 964,993 or 997.
Absolutes rarely deliver truth. Never say never. My dad's 356, which he bought in the 70's, is an example of a Porsche that some thought were "the poor man's Porsche." Cheers.
@@garrettstrutz7421 Define "ugly" in an objective way, and then explain how it applies to the 996. If you can do this, you will crack the timeless human maxim: "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." Cheers.

So all the comments that a 997 is better IMO are way off, sorry.
I agree with you on a lot of this, but a 997.1S out handles and out drives my 996.2. But for the money, the 996 is better.
997 3.6 is a slightly heavier car than a 996.2 3.6 👍
Oh really? Good to know!
IMS, bore score and an awful interior. I don’t get it 🤷🏻♂️
Get one with that done, and without any scoring. The interior is nicer than you think, but you really have to drive one and you’ll understand.
No one discusses the the 911 996 40AE Jahre. It's such an incredible auto and it's forgotten. I have one. A beautiful driving experience - interior, exterior, responsiveness, and X51 boost to 345bhp. Would only trade it for a 992 GT3.
Yea it’s a great car. Getting really hard to find one now
nice hat !
It’s a real nice hat!
Get a wireless lavalier mic dude.....
I I have one. Batter died on me. Next time!
It's already too late
They’re only going up
I think is already too late.
I think they’re still gonna go up
@@LowBoostFilms that is why I think it's too late.
You could also argue that former Toyota employees saved Porsche...
True!
@@LowBoostFilms Beautiful car and nice video! Be sure to do a few choice mods before you track, for those long sweeping curves.
I think that’s very fair to say
Its too late. All the 20K 996s are 50K now. Shit!
It’s crazy right!?!?
Same story has been told dozens of time before overhere...
Like Beauty and the Beast lol
Say "At the end of the day' again MFer
lol yea I thought the same thing. I’ve made a point to say it less
@@LowBoostFilms Just kidding - really nice video!!
It will never be too late to buy a 996. It will always be the poor man's Porsche. Because it's so ugly. Yes, it may rise slightly in price, but other 911s will still rise more. What one should buy is 964,993 or 997.
I like the headlights, and it drives better than a 964, or 993. It’s such a bargain. It will def go up in value but not like the others.
Absolutes rarely deliver truth. Never say never. My dad's 356, which he bought in the 70's, is an example of a Porsche that some thought were "the poor man's Porsche." Cheers.
Lol the 996 is ugly wow I bet u think your wife is hot too
@@garrettstrutz7421 Define "ugly" in an objective way, and then explain how it applies to the 996. If you can do this, you will crack the timeless human maxim: "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." Cheers.
Same was said of the 964 not long ago. There's no accounting for taste.
