One of the craziest matches in tennis history between Rafael Nadal and a player who has never beaten him before!
it sucks that just changing the color made the surface play different and ultimately got it banned cuz this is the coolest clay court event ever for sure
just because of Nadal... ask Federer
They should bring back blue courts with improvements because it's great for viewing the ball as well
I mean the whole clay season audiences just struggle to see the ball on television and the camera angles don't help either
@@comedefleurieu315 Nope, any kind of defender (Nole included simply said they wont come anymore if it remains a surface
Yes but why?@@Dark_Voice
@@usermatisseI’m probably wrong, but I think it favors offensive players more because it was slippery, making defending harder
Madrid is Verdasco's homecourt. Added motivation to do well. And besting the best clay courter of all time is that much more initiative. Rafa, whatever the conditions may be is just indomitable. Thanks Wivo.
and verdasco was no sissy!
its look so much better than normal clay courts
The court remains the same for both players
If you lose doesn't mean the surface is bad, you just need to adapt to it
Nadal doesnt have as much advantage on blue clay as he does on normal clay, of course he wants that to cancel. A lot other players also disliked the court, even the champion Federer
Yeah i think the movement was really bad and slipery on this one
@@TheRealSuperwiesel sounds like skill issues to me
@@Pernsonal6054 if its a skill issue, then why is every pro in this tournament complaining about the surface?
Then why did Federer boycott the Paris master until they removed carpet?
That freaking blue clay took almost half of Del Potro's hip in the match vs. Berdych hahahaha. He slid so violently on a direction change he ended like split in two
Having blue clay is a positive for the fans. It's hard to argue against
Djokovic and Nadal made a great fuss over this surface. Federer just got on with it as far as I can recall.
Nope, Fed didn’t like the surface either
@@Viktorvelat95 He was not as vocal about it as Novak and Rafa. They said they would never play the tournament again if it was played on that surface.
@@incredibleXMan federer won the only title on that surface
Federer just won because he didn’t have to play neither Rafa nor Novak
who cares? If you're playing at the highest level and the surface sucks, isnt enjoyable, and doesn't enable the highest level of play why would you not complain? Im a huge Fed fan but call a spade a spade. @@incredibleXMan
I know it was absolute shit clay ( slippery etc. ) but you have to say that it was freaking beautiful ... i know that we have ( green clay at USA ) but this one is something SPECIAL :)
Actually the fact is it was very close to normal clay but that week Madrid was hit by way too many rain showers which made the surface slippery and act more like grass instead of clay. It was just bad timing I guess. A normal clay court would have acted more or less same in those conditions.
verdascos forehand is wildly good!!!!
Verdasco Forehand and Gasquet's backhands are very underrated
@@Pernsonal6054 verdasco's forehand is not underrated by any means
The pigments used to produce different colored tennis strings also affect the way that the same string model plays.
Verdasco is one of the most underrated players of the generation
You are the Legend you beat Nadal getting away of double break in final set
Vamos!
Yeah he played a great match and hit some fantastic serves and powerful forehands that nadal couldn’t deal with
Might not play the same as orange clay, but as long as it plays the same for both players on the day then that is the important thing. Personally I think it looks great, would love for them to find a way to bring it back.
The GOAT Roger had no problem adapting to a new surface and mastering it
That has nothing to do with it. (Plus that’s your opinion, I think RAFA is the goat but FEDERER is close second)
RAFA is the goat of most time spent offcourt. I come close second as I haven't played nearly as much as him.
Djokovic > Federer > Nadal and no number of clay titles will ever make nadal number 2. Nadal is the least well rounded player of the big 3, hasn’t even won atp finals.
By your stupid logic Murray is better than Djokovic and Federer since he has twice the number of gold medals than other two combined 😂@Crazyclips556
@@thebrave354 The goat is how well they do holistically on all tennis surface grass clay and hard. You are taking my comment out of context.
you rarely see nadal lose these matches, he was up 2 breaks as well, just unfortunate loss
First of all, I don't think the surface had THAT much to do with it. Admittedly, the bad surface helps the weaker player more. (The tougher player has more to lose off his game.)
But, imho, Verdasco played one of the best tournaments of his life and Nadal had an "off" day.
OTOH, it was clear from some shots that the surface WAS somewhat of a factor.
This surface was so bad, I understand several players withdrew for fear of personal injury and, to the best of my knowledge, was never used again.
Just as an aside, if memory serves, Federer won the tournament as his ability to quickly adapt made a BIG difference. (Much more than this single match, surely.)
Thanks for the video in any case as it was fun to watch and inspiring to see Verdasco's joy at the win.
7:37 Robbie Koenig forgot who he was watching 🙂
The problem with this event wasn't the color of the court, it was the material they used to change the color caused issues with the watering of the surface and resulted in the court being slippery. Madrid always has quicker clay conditions because the elevation so combining quick clay + slippery + blue color was just a recipe for disaster. Madrid has always been a bad tune up for RG since it plays completely different. Tbh Monte Carlo & Madrid should swap places on the calendar
That overhead Nadal missed 5-2 15-0 in the third was crazy though. Completely changed the outcome.
Verdasco acting like he won a grand slam laying on the court for like 20 minutes after beating Nadal!
This court was fast as lightning. I love it.
Bring back the blue clay. You can see the ball better!!
This is one of the reason I enjoy watching the us open the nice blue hard court contrasts nicely with the ball
happy for Fernardo...i used to like him a lot
Djokovic hated it too
Fantastic performance by verdasco this shows why nadal will never be the goat Djokovic has dominated on all surfaces - you can see why verdasco was one of the best players on the world at this time
Everyone hated except Federer,he absolutely loved it,he probably have a personal court with blue clay on his house 😂
Really? How so, is there an interview with him explaining why? I’d love to know the reason
They should kept blue clay and add more surfaces, i dont understand why only have 4
How difficult for both, to play another lefty!
it's insane that in 2012 nadal was already considered "one of the greatest to ever play the game" yet he's still here 12 years later with many many more achievements since then.
Unfortunately, I don't think he is going to be around much longer. He's had a couple of injuries in the last couple of years one of which kept him out for a whole season. The same happened with Federer. Nadal may be younger than Federer when that last injury happened but his body isn't younger. I hope he proves me wrong.
Its 10 years last 2 years he hasnt done anything of importance as he was injured
Pls Upload Rome 2012 Final
Yeah, 5:2 up in the third and lost the match, but guess who's fault it is, blue clay 🤣 He can only blame himself, he played absolutly poor and gave the match away, that was his fault.
I didn’t see anything about him blaming the surface.
I suspect it’s just a clickbait title.
@@Mc-kk4fdhe did (as well as others), but just not specifically stated in this video
I agree verdasco just outplayed him in the end with some great powerful forehand winners and serving
Nadal basically realized he's second-fiddle to the GOAT Federer on this surface and wanted it canceled 😊😂
I can hear the crying going on inside your head rn
Take your meds son, roger is the goat of choking match points.23 times!!!!
@@um8036nah nah nah give that to medvedev, but fed definitely up there
It's true. Federer is indeed the king of blue clay.
I think I heard even Federer didn’t like the surface, despite being well-equipped for it
Remember, everything needs to be tailored to Nadal's strengths. Everything else was slowed down in the game to give him an advantage. His strings give him an absolutely unfair advantage with his spin. So, may as well demand red clay.
Cry. 22>20
Yeah i agree the more I watch highlights of nadal playing i realise he hits a lot of weak high shots and when against a power hitter like verdasco and monfils there have been times where he gets punished
Nadal didn't like the blue clay because he lost
Coward Without clay, he was the same as Wawrinka and Murray
(It was not the most dramatic match ever)
most dramatic clickbait title lmao
@@Steevy84yeah that’s more like it he does seem to enjoy a good clickbait title to draw you in 😏
Chokedal 😂
Djokovic just lost Indian Wells to low ranked player Luca Nardi. Talking about choke LOL.
@@stuewz The difference is this was a prime Weakdal on his fav clay, and Goatkovic is 37 almost, lost to a 20 year old player, wow thats a surprise 😂 Wasnt a choke either, he simply wasnt in form. Weakdal lost like his last 15 matches to nobodies, so ? Big deal. The difference is one is the GOAT of tennis, and the other(Weakdal) is the wife of mr 40:15, that is quite the difference dont you think fangirl 🖐🤙🖕🤣
@@jokelot5221 I cringed a lot trying to read what you just wrote. Remove it from your mouth, buddy
@@Giochochu Weakdal forever 🤙🤣
@@stuewzhe’s 37 lmao and has all the records, means nothing anyway
Nadal reclama todo pensando en su propio beneficio (ej. arcilla azul).
Djokovic reclama por el bienestar de los jugadores profesionales del tenis..
Que gran diferencia de actitud y valores!!
He lost so that he means he hated the surface??
wtf
He complained and led the charge to threaten to boycott the Madrid tournament. So, what do you think?
@@thedragontactic not only him thought. Djokovic and Federer did the same
@@Giochochu Not Federer, because he is one of those that said he can adapt to anything. Djokovic, Nadal and Del Potro have complained. I searched online and Nadal was the most vocal.
While Serena cried like a baby about the surface, Serena Williams blitzed her way through on the women's side and won the title.
Cause she had no competition 😅
What does it matter changing the color? Did it literally change the friction and bounce of the surface that much? Federer had no problem with it 😛
It's like blaming your racket for your poor performance
Well, somebody had to win the tournament, so we can't conclude that the winner didn't have a problem with the surface. Maybe everybody had a problem but the winner had less of one than most of the others.
They use a different material which is different condition which most players didn't like as it was too slippery roger despite winning also didn't really like the surface. I JUST THINK IT WAS DIFFERENT TO WHAT PEOPLE WERE EXPECTING AND ROGER JUST ADPTED THE BEST AND THERE WAS A BIGGER RISK IN INJURING THE PLAYERS DUE TO SLIPPERY NESS OF IT
Yeah to me this is the reason he was never the goat other players could seem to adapt to other surfaces better like federer and the greatest player Djokovic
