its poetic how their last two matches were played at roland garros and wimbledon, with each player winning their respective court of expertise. a fitting end to one of the most iconic rivalries in sport history.
But Rafa pushed Roger to 5 sets in 2007 wimby final where Roger was lucky to win 2 sets in tiebreaks and somehow Rafa choked in 3rd game of the 5th set and also beating Roger in 2008 wimby final.Roger never pushed Rafa to 5 sets at RG let alone winning it.
As a rafa fan, rogers retirement is sad. Fedal is tennis poetry, even there head to head, their first grand slam match ending in a rafa win at RG, his stronghold, and their last GS macth ending in a roger win at wimbledon, his stronghold. The head to head started with rafa winning 6 of the first 7 matches and it ending with roger winning 6 of the last 7 macthes. Wimbledon 2007,2008, french open 2006,2008, Australian open 2017 and many more, their matches and rivalry have been the closest thing to destiny in tennis.
well-put mate, could not have said it any better, greetings from Germany how's life wherever you are, always delighted to get in touch with new Rafa fans and tennis fans in general too
many say it was a lop sided rivalry, but 24-16, is a 60-40 ratio, which even at face value is not bad. head to head by surface shows, federer dominates on grass (3-1) and indoor hard (5-1); nadal dominates on clay (14-2), and has a slight lead on outdoor hard (8-6). And we need to consider that a disproportionate number of matches were played on clay early in the rivalry (due to Rafa losing in early rounds of fast surfaced tournaments). I'd say this was quite balanced and competitive
Well its 3-1 in grass GS matches to roger, 3-1 HC and 5-0 clay GS matches rafa. I think this is why its seen as so dominat by rafa as he has a winning h2h on HC against one of, if not the best HC players ever. Also rafa was 23-10 before 2017. Plus rafa won most of the matches against prime fed whereas, fed won alot after 2017 when rafa wasnt in his prime. Anyway both are goats and are amazing in thier own way.
Why do you guys bring convenient facts only to the argument. I am not going to even bring H2H at Slams (which is more important than 3 setters) and yes on your beloved surfaces but yes tennis is 40% Clay 50% Hardcourt (outdoor indoor is to have variety etc) and 10% grass (expensive to maintain). 4:5:1. Matches played ratio. 16:20:4. Same ratio. Numbers don't lie Clay seems bigger there is no bifurcation Madrid (fast) clay or Montecarlo clay. So please i would have agreed to an extent about your statement their rivalry was not completely one sided only because 2017 was essential for the game change Federer brought which is why perhaps hats off the only reason why we are having a debate here. (No need to say Nadal lost hardcourts earlier and belittling the other) Fact is Nadal beat him in his prime more than he could beat Nadal in his. No one will ever argue about this. That being said both are goats for people with different belief system (as personalities and playstyle also matters). So let's respect all 3 of them in their Twilight. 20 years down the line both of us will laugh at these comments knowing all 3 together was something else :)

Makes me so sad that we will not be able to witness these titans play each other again. Their rivalry is what made me fall in love with tennis. Love roger from the heart ❤️. Coming from a novak fan.
Lucky us, lucky us, lucky us. Two absolute giants playing matches at the highest levels, not giving an inch, each one evolving their game in response to the other, each pushing the other to greater heights, and all of this done with a spirit of abiding respect, friendship and sportsmanship. Lucky us.
Federer is the most elegant player with all the tennis strokes in the sport. You stole every one of our heart with your flamboyant stroke play and the innocent smile. We miss you badly. Federer and Nadal the two legends of Tennis, the former ruling grass and later ruling clay. Both of them great ambassadors of the sport with their lovely attitude setting example for true sportsmanship. Every match between them was a feast to all of us. Hat's off to them.
Keep in mind Nadal was one of the only two people who have took wins against Federer in the entire 2006 season (the other being Andy Murray). Their duals are simply on another level.
The last chapter of their rivalry definitely belonged to roger. His new improved backhand played such a huge impact in this matchup the last years. For me if fed had that backhand since the start of their rivalry he would only lose to rafa on clay and even there he would have won some more matches.
Nope , that backhand wasn't the key . If that were true then he'd beat Nole too but he only beat him once with the Neo backhand (WTF'19) . The main difference was Rafa's decreased defence . He just wasn't as fast as he was before 2015 . No doubt that Rafa still is one of the best at defence in the game and that's enough to win against most players but it's not enough against Fed or Nole . Definitely Roger's Neo aggressive backhand played a part but Rafa's diminished speed is the real reason . That and that they only played one match on clay with the Neo backhand .
@@YTviewer2099 I respect ur opinion but i think you are completely wrong. The story against novak was the same since 2013. After 2017 the matches became closer than they were in 2013-2017. Plus vs novak fed likes to use the slice way more than against rafa. If you have seen old fedal matches you would see that this was the only plan rafa had vs roger to go in that backhand. So when fed changed it rafa never beat him again in hard or grass because he had no way anymore. Uncle tony once said that we prefer to play vs federer cause we have a plan, a way when we play against djokovic we often dont know what to do. That was the story vs fed after 2017.
@@YTviewer2099 Federer vs djokovic is another story the h2h doesnt rely on federer's backhand. It relies on other staff cause djokovic's game and shotmaking wasnt that punishing for fed's backhand like nadal's forehand was.
@@imadariusmain7311 alright man , to each his own . Only the Wimbledon final came close , all other matches were won pretty comfortably by Novak . And obviously you have to consider that Novak was also past his prime after 2016 . Fed's aggression was more or less the same (against Rafa and Novak specifically not others) but their defence had diminished a lot since they aged . And obviously they had a plan against Federer . His backhand was clearly not as strong as his forehand . But that only worked for Rafa , guess why ? Because Rafa was the only one fast enough who could run around his backhand and hit another forehand or to hit a backhand passing shot . He couldn't do so later on resulting in weaker offence leading to weaker defence .
what’s interesting is that before 2017, the one year federer dominated their h2h, nadal actually lead their h2h on hardcourts as well as clay-courts and it was 23-10 overall going into that year I believe.
They matched up on clay a ton early on. Roger would make it deep into the clay tournaments and lose to Rafa but Rafa would lose early in grass tournaments before playing Roger. And if I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure the majority of their hard court matches have come after Federer exited his prime. Once they had both exited their primes (and Roger skipped clay tournaments lol), Roger started dominating the head to head. It's a lot more balanced of a rivalry that the overall H2H makes it look
@@camctrail Fed lost to rafa in 2004 miami, a lucky umpire call escaped him from another miami loss in 2005, lost dubai final 2006 all in his prime Then lost 2011 miami convincingly,, 2012 australian open too. I'm remembering an amazing thing about Rafa - a few years ago at Laver Cup they were being interviewed, and Rafa was asked about winning their first match in 2004 Miami. Rafa shrugged and said he didn't really count that because Roger was sick (heat stroke.) That just amazed me, that Rafa even remembered that from 15 years earlier - it proves that he really does think in that incredibly humble way, that he kept that in his mind for so long. He doesn't think "I beat him in our first match on a hard court in his prime, that's how great I am," he thinks "well he wasn't at his best, I was a bit lucky, no? I prolly not gonna beat him in 2004 on hard court if he's at his best, no?" BTW as a Federer fan, Nadal might have beat him even if Fed was healthy that day. Nadal has such a unique style, the first time someone plays him is usually a shock to their system. They've never seen angles and bounce like that.
haven't they meet anytime in US open strange what a lovely matches they had, specially Roger last Indian wells and Miami was top for me always and Rafa's 1st Wimbledon title against Roger.

I think there are only two backhands and one is on the run but a couple of forehands too , yes that does look interesting . As many of his matches as I have watched , I think when he's not feeling it or is injured or its a match point for the opponent then Rafa tries to play really aggressively and flattens his strokes severely resulting in more net errors .
Should the description of the video tell that RG and Wimbledon will only be photos?? There were too many epic finals on those GS to only show pictures…
I personally think 2017 Nadal outside of clay for the most part wasn’t all that great, he had next to no pace on his serve and his pace off of his ground strokes weren’t high at all, especially compared to 2018/19
As a Rafa fan I would have loved if the rivalry stayed 23-10 (Roger won 6 out of next 7) butttttt then Both him and Roger wouldn't have their resurgent years and Rafa wouldn't get his 8 GS that he won since 2017 RG. So I guess a small price to pay for bigger glory. Also of course feeling immensely sad that Federer is retiring 😭😭😭😭
Two of the greatest to ever do it. I just hate that Roger couldn't find away to wrestle one of those French Open finals away from Rafa. Then again, neither could anyone else.

Why don't you just title it 'All 28 ATP Match Points'? I know you don't have GS rights but showing a photo of a handshake/trophy presentation is not the match point
I'm a Federer fan but the 2019 twelve all 5th set tiebreak with joker at wimby was a joke. To both players to be fair. That semi win vs Nadal was prob the best in his later career. I don't care if joker wins in that final , well I do, but I'll never forgive Wimbledon for that system that was used once, ever and it was in the final and never again. The fact that roger didnt complain after that match really shows what a champion really is... A 7 pt tie break at 12 all. How could this have made any sense. It's the final theres no more matches just let them play it out. Idk that I'll ever get over that mess.
Lol, how could he complain about that? It's not like they decided to use the rule in the middle of the match. It didn't favor either of the players. And nowadays they play tiebreak at 6-6 so I don't see how that was so significantly different.
@Plitonne That it was a terrible solution to the isner mahut problem/5-7 hr matches. And that was the only year they had that silly 12all BS. I still think the final should be played out. Everyone hated it (fans and players) and we feel we were robbed the finish of the match by doing it that way. It just seems like Wimbledon didnt consider this happening in a final. I wasnt saying it was unfair to either, possibly worse for Roger bc of his age. It was bad for tennis. It was a ridiculous system that tainted an epic match. It was an okay rule for every match besides the final. They had the roof also at the time so....why couldnt they just finish?
It was my favourite sports rivalry after India Pakistan Cricket match. I waited and enjoyed their matches more than el classico. Federer denied nadal atp finals, Miami masters, Shanghai masters whereas nadal denied him Monte Carlo, Rome masters. It was a legendary rivalry. I was so happy for Australian open 2017 final as it was fedal final after five and half years. For me, tennis will be incomplete without their match.

Keep in mind Nadal was one of the only two people who have took wins against Federer in the entire 2006 season (the other being Andy Murray). Their duals are simply on another level.
Hamburg 2007 was just such a legendary match. Such a sweet bagel for Roger.
I wouldn't go that far but I do believe the rivalry would have been more balanced if Roger had made the racket change much earlier than he did.

Legends!
I prolly not gonna beat him in 2004 on hard court if he's at his best, no?"
BTW as a Federer fan, Nadal might have beat him even if Fed was healthy that day. Nadal has such a unique style, the first time someone plays him is usually a shock to their system. They've never seen angles and bounce like that.

They don't have rights for slam footage, just ATP Tour.
@@ashleythomas4112 That sucks. Maybe they should have titled it "All 40 match points except for slams which we just have a picture of the trophy presentation because we couldn't get rights"
This is gold
This is just a compilation of roger’s backhand errors
Biggest rivalry between these two icons of the tennis 🎾........
The racquet change was the key to Federer's success against Nadal.
If he has done that earlier, he would won most of the time.
If, if if doesn't exist :D
It might had improved his game little but actually Federer improved his bh and he broke that mental barrier against Nadal and got more confident against him after that point. You can also say Nadal wasn't the same player as before with running down all court, defending pretty much everything. His game had changed which i think was among the reasons aswell.
He couldn't beat him at rg anyway..
Racquet or no racquet, rg was a drubbing ground for fed vs nadal
@@abeguy7981 doesn’t matter, Federer was still better on every other surface
A question for Tennis Tv, you showed the points from slams in Federer 103 titles video, so why not in this one?
Glad this was put together, bit of a bummer the majors are copyrighted though. Thought the main tennis channel would be exempt from corporate bullshit like that
Federer is the best tennis player ever!! No Doubt!
If 20 is bigger than 21 or 22..
7:16 This trajectory🥶👍
Respect.
Nadal power and speed, federer skill and talent. Federer never break a sweat always look classy.
Federer has broken rackets
Lol with power and speed only u will.be a shit tennis playa
You can tell how tennis wasn’t everything for Roger since 2010 with how he took his losses. He had achieved what he wanted to and now had kids. Very different person.
The real problem for de H2H: the worst years of RF, he always managed to make through the final rounds and face Rafa, but this is not the case in the opposite situation. The worst moments of Nadal and good RF (2012, 2014-15 for example) they barely face each other cause Rafa didnt make to this rounds.
2015 onwards is literal proof of the opposite . They played one match on Clay and 5 on HC and another one on Grass .
In 2012 Rafa beat Fed at AO
In 2013 Fed lost to Robredo and robbed us of the first ever Fedal match at US Open .
In 2014 Rafa beat Fed at at AO .
Even in 2010 and 2011 US Open Fed lost to Nole having match points . Yes Rafa lost at Wimbledon but outside that he didn't really lose much . And by the way I didn't even mention French Open
@@YTviewer2099 i mean that the h2h is more affected by the timings than the surface. Im sure the numbers would be so differents if Rafa had played Fed more in 2012, 2014,15 and less in 2013 (worst RF ever).
@@sergio-7952 2015 yes , it was one of Rafa's worst years . 2012 and 2014 I don't think so , Rafa's defence was monstrous . He beat Fed at AO after that brutal quarter final against Berdych .
@@YTviewer2099 2014 RF made SF or F in almost every tournement of the year that he played. If they just played the AO is cause Nadal didnt reach this rounds so much. Is just the opposite with Djoko, Fed played him this year and 2015 like everywhere. I think is a fact that RF didnt played Rafa in his worst years but Rafa played so many times in RF worst moments (2013).
@@sergio-7952 Rafa was good in the first half of 2014 and Fed in the second half and Rafa didn't play the US Open because he was injured dude . 2015 was definitely Rafa's worst year but still he lost to Berdych in Quarters where as Fed lost to Seppi in the third round , Fed again lost early at FO and then Rafa lost early at Wimbledon and US Open . Isn't that even ?
I still can't believe they never faced each other at the US Open
My man just waving off with a 6 match winning streak against rafa!!
How so? Rafa won RG 2019 semis & Fed won Wimby 2019 semis. Streak means consecutive victories, which was snapped at RG itself.
@@tirthankarsarkar4206 ok oops forgot RG. Still a nice h2h
@@lammie001 what nice H2H? Rafa owns Federer with 24-16 H2H u dumboo!
Roger whooped him after 2015
sublime.
