Please let me explain the context a little. These are actually two fragments of two songs that belong to popular Spanish folklore and adapted by Diana to the flamenco style.
The first tells the story of "La Tarara", which is the nickname of a young, little gypsy girl who sells flowers on the street to earn a living and feed her little son who is the fruit of a forbidden love.
The second is a dramatic song about a woman called "La Loba" (the she-wolf), who was abandoned by her lover and lives her life with bitterness, resentment and alcohol. But the final verse reveals her true feelings: "Yo, que quiero ser la loba, no me deja el corazón" ("Although I want to be the she-wolf, my heart won't let me be"), showing that she still loves the man who left her.
The voice and passion with which Diana performs these two stories is unmatched. Don't look for anything similar. You won't find it.

Well, Lara Fabian does the "same thing", when she is at her best. I don`t know if they know / have heard of each other, but the way they both approach the song to perform it (the high level of "execution" included), they are soul mates. Just their background is different.

Thank you so much for your heartfelt reaction to this performance. And thanks as well for bringing attention to Diana, an artist who deserves to be much better known outside of her native Spain. She is not only a truly world-class singer & songwriter but a sensitive, beautiful soul. Love you brother.

Flamenco is not just a type of music. It includes many variants, depending on the rhythm (for example, bulerias, soleas and alegrías have a 12-beat, 3x4 time signature)and theme of its lyrics. Each of these variants is called "palos", which are totally different in rhythm and lyrics (love, heartbreak, pain, joy, religious devotion, loneliness...). It is said that there are mainly 7 "palos", but with all the variants you can find up to 30. So for example, you have: "bulerías, fandangos, fandanguillos, guajiras, malagueñas, peteneras, seguiriya, soleás, tientos, alegrías, saeta, tarantas, sevillanas, farrucas, cantiñas,". .... All of them, except the saeta which is a cappella, have 2 aspects in common: 1st they arise from the union of a guitarist and a singer, who in some styles is accompanied by clappers (they play the claps carrying the rhythms) or a snare drum (an instrument for keeping rhythm); 2nd, they are completely improvised songs in which the singer and the guitarist have to know how to match each other.
Although it is not a flamenco style, the Spanish "copla" (which is sung with an orchestra) is also closely related.
So that you can enjoy Diana Navarro singing different examples of some of these styles, I recommend:
-"Hiciste sangre en mis labios", Gala Ceres 2012 (bulerías) ("You made blood on my lips", Gala Ceres 2012 (bulerías)//ua-cam.com/video/nztGu08hWeM/v-deo.html
    -"Malagueñas del Pimpi" (malagueñas)//ua-cam.com/video/kw5lmWu9z9A/v-deo.html
    -"Tinieblas" from his album essences.//ua-cam.com/video/epAE-xvKvg4/v-deo.html
-""Saeta de Larios" (semana Santa de Malaga)(Holy Week in Malaga)//ua-cam.com/video/8jIqzkyjxFI/v-deo.html
o "Diana canta al Cristo de Medinaceli" (Madrid año 2019), "Diana sings to the Christ of Medinaceli" (Madrid 2019) ,"//ua-cam.com/video/AAA07FPA70s/v-deo.html
or, or if you prefer an arrangement of a saeta with musical instruments "El transito" (The transit")(Salamanca 2005).//ua-cam.com/video/OM-LtXQ1UkQ/v-deo.html
I suppose you will appreciate the artistic aspect, regardless of the fact that it is a Catholic religious song.
-"En la casa que habito"(In the cabin I live in") (official video clip). (guajira)://ua-cam.com/video/5mTQmL_X9Fs/v-deo.html
-"Ni contigo ni sin ti"( 2011) "with you nor without you" (2011)
    - "Deja que te mire" (2011)(cantiñas)//ua-cam.com/video/wn-TBvutP0E/v-deo.html
    - Tangos del roneo (tanguillo) ://ua-cam.com/video/cwcy8sU5tn8/v-deo.html
And as a Spanish "copla", I recommend:
-"Almería city orchestra with Diana Navarro, copla and zarzuela, María de las Mercedes"//ua-cam.com/video/h-no8ZlgAh8/v-deo.html
-Romance of the other (Direct in the tribute to Placido Domingo)".//ua-cam.com/video/Xz4egeUgeFk/v-deo.html
I hope you enjoy and see that they all have common things and are at the same time very different.

Well, I let me explain the palos of flamenco in English more or less
Alegrías: These are characterized by a fast and joyful rhythm. Imagine them as festive songs, full of celebration and cheer. The tempo is energetic and invites movement.
Bulerías: Bulerías are versatile and flexible. They’re like jazz improvisations in the world of flamenco. The rhythm is lively, and musicians and dancers can play with it, creating variations and surprises.
Fandangos: Originating from Arab and Portuguese influences, fandangos remind us of fado. Each region has developed its own style of fandangos, as if you merged different musical genres into one piece.
Seguiriyas: This palo is deep and melancholic, conveying intense emotions. It’s like a melancholy ballad. The dance is usually solemn and unadorned.
Sevillanas: Sevillanas are popular and danced in pairs. You can compare them to ballroom dances, where people follow a specific structure. During the Seville Fair, it’s common to hear foreigners ask, “Do you understand?” while learning to dance sevillanas.
Soleás: Soleás are solemn and profound, akin to a blues song. The rhythm is constant and evokes deep feelings.
Tangos: Tangos are fundamental. Imagine them as pop songs, full of flair and charm. When slowed down, they become even more alluring.
I may not be an expert in flamenco, but it resonates deep within my soul. As a devoted Metalhead, I’ve found that music with true soul transcends genres. Whether it’s the passionate rhythms of flamenco or the thunderous chords of metal, both speak to something primal within me. It’s not just about technicalities; it’s about that unexplainable connection-the way music grips your heart and refuses to let go. So, when I listen, I don’t dissect; I feel. And that, my friend, is where the magic lies.

Flamenco is the fusion of several cultures, the Arabic one being one of them without a doubt.
You can hear this kind of singing in many parts of Spain, but especially in Andalusia, the birthplace of flamenco. I especially recommend the Albaicín neighbourhood in the city of Granada. There you can attend this kind of shows in its famous caves. I highly recommend this experience.
Since you are asking for other recommendations of this style I highly encourage you to listen to Silvia Pérez Cruz, "Grito pelado", "Habaneras de Cádiz", "Vestida de nit" or "Pequeño vals vienés". I promise you won't regret it. Greetings from the capital of Spain whose name is also of Arabic origin (Magerit) 😊

Flamenco is the soulful expression of three communities with different faiths the Christian, Moslem and Jewish that started cohabitating together (We could learn a lot from that) in the X century under the rule of Alphonse X (The wise one). You can see the different influences of the faiths in the different styles of Flamenco. The peregrination of the Gypsies (Egiptanos) centuries later contributed it to enrich the Flamenco style and its artistry. Diana Navarro embraces the style in a very profound way. Thank you so much my Arab brother for recognizing great singers.

Diana Navarro is from Málaga. Málaga is one of the 8 cities located in Andalucia. ( FOR CENTURIES NAMED Al-Andalus).
Located at the southern part of Spain, just in front of Marroco. Your comments about she sounds arab is totally RIGHT. Historically Andalucia was run by Arabs until the Catholics Queen & King conquered the kingdom of GRANADA.
By the way, Paco de Lucia was Andalucian, from Cádiz. (I just watched your video and love it!!!!)
So there is a mixture of Arab influence, spanish music, flamenco (which is another mixed... Gipsies who came from India, and good quality, dancing, rythm!!!!! Clapping hands it is just art itself.....
So yes!!!! Andalucia is soooo arab in many ways....that is why it sourprise you....
    I hope it helps.

    • @salvador9369
      @salvador9369 2 місяці тому

But the style is not Arab in exclusive, but it´s generally Mediterránean since very ancient times ago (Neolithic or even before). Pre-Roman Iberia (Spania in reality), Roman Empire, Ancient Greece (Hella), Pharaonic Egipt, Mesopotamia, Sumeria, Persian Empire, Hittites Empire, Hebrew Kingdom of David and Solomon, etc. Thousands and thousand years ago, not only centuries with the muslims and nothing more.
The people are very wrong with that only because the Arab or Muslims have appropriated it in the last times as if it were their own theirself unique thing that they have exported to the rest of the world, but no. Only they have popularizated it, but that´s all.
Similar styles are in Many territories of the east Europe, Poland, all Asia (Central Asia, India, even China), each one with its own unique peculiarity and personality.
Maybe it origin was Indo European, a religious way and then went popular.
      Regards.

Hi! Have you noticed that (she) is singing sat? That increases the dificulty exponentially... you can't sing the same way... you can't steady yourself naturally and the belting of the voice is more difficult... and the guitar player is a BEAST!!

Thank you so much for this. Definitely more Diana Navarro, and more flamenco. Maria Terremoto, perhaps? There's a video of her and Miguel Poveda, sounds almost like a duel, definitely something to check out.

Diana is wonderful, a monster singer! I've been watching your last reacts and I think it's time that you know and react to India Martinez with the song "El Aire y El Baile-live performance", India (professional name) is from Córdoba (Andalusia) and her music has many nuances of Arab culture. Thanks for your reacts, regards!

You got the meaning. As somebody has suggested in Spanish.. you should listen to that again with the lyrics (i translate😉)
All mediterranean countries share something that creates a bond more tight that some people would admit.
I wonder if you would feel close to "fados", music born in Portugal. I also wander if you d feel close to music from Cuba.

Remember, the Moors ruled Spain for almost 800 years; 800 years of Islamic rule . Moorish Spain Al-Andalus is not defined as one ethnic group but consisted of Arabs, Berbers, and Muslim Europeans.
The Maghreb and Al-Andalus would have a lasting influence in not only the food, culture, language(castellan) but in particular within the music of the Iberian peninsula. This can be noticed in the musical culture of southern Spain particularly in flamenco and its varying Palos. 6:46
