Just bought the new Stan Smith's. They look more plastic than previous versions. I have loved them for years, but Adidas has dropped the ball on these.
@Todd Cercone I take no pleasure from the decline. A few decades ago Adidas withdrew Stans from the Canadian market. They were gone for years before they were re-introduced. I called Adidas and a service rep told me that he got more calls about Stan Smith's than all their other shoes combined. Clearly, Adidas doesn't see this iconic design in its long-term plans and decided to milk it for all it is worth...until it dies.

I really like Crown Northhamton's white sneaker more than the other brands, just based off of research. I own a pair of Crown Northhampton's overstone derby white sneakers and they are absolute perfection in terms of appearance for me. The only problem with them for me is that there is a break-in period where the leather is pretty hard and uncomfortable, but they make a beautiful minimalist sneaker.
I am from India, we do not have a lot of these options & international shipping is not something I am very comfortable with. Stan Smith is widely available here so it works for me.
Oliver Cabel doesn’t have half sizes and they really hurt my feet. Never really broke in or expanded. I want to love them. I still wear them often (wearing them now) but I’m not buying again. So if you’re a half size I would advise against it until they offer half sizes. Otherwise I would purchase again.
I went crazy on buying white sneakers over the last few years and I own the Great Royale Blanco and the New Republic Kurt. While they are pretty amazing, there are days where I feel like wearing my Reebok Club C 85's and Stan Smith's even if they are lower quality leather lol. I always come back to where I started I guess. Dr Scholl's cushion inserts helps alot in the lower tier/budget leather shoes but that's just personal preference.
Not only are Crowns truly the most minimal, with the least amount of accent stitching, but they're the only ones I know with white metal eyelets instead of bare shoelace holes for durability. (And since they're handmade to order, you can ask them to do without the eyelets if you'd prefer anyway.)

Cole Haan Grand Pro Tennis shoes are by far the best alternative for Common Projects. For $150 they're a fraction of the cost, and last the same amount of time if you take care of them.
In my opinion it's the toe box construction that makes the Common Projects unique. The toe box is flat and sleek with almost no dome shape to it. All the other shoes get close, some really close, but not quite 100%. Whether or not that detail is worth the price up to person buying, though it is possible to find them on sale. I do really like the Koios, might get them in grey.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Good video & information. I just gave away my New Republic white sneakers to Goodwill, after having them for over 3 years, they still look somewhat okay. Having said that, the same day I purchased another pair of the New Republic I received for my birthday a pair of Common Projects. In my humble opinion, both sneakers feel good to me & look great.
I really like the fit/feel of Stan Smiths but they wear through so fast. I'm on my third pair because I get full on holes in the sole that start filling up with stones. It's hard for me to take a punt on a more expensive shoe, because I walk through dirty rainy cities, and also can't easily try them on to check the fit (whereas Stans are available all over)
I bought a pair of Greats Royale from Nordstrom Rack for $85 ish out the door. They are basically a pretty decent sub $200 minimalist sneaker alternative that you can actually try on if you go to the right stores. I can't compare to Stan Smiths but others have and everyone seems to agree Greats are a couple notches up in every way when it comes to quality. That said, they retail for I think ~$170 so you gotta find them on sale. Nordstrom Rack might have other lesser known brands of leather minimalist sneakers on sale of a similar quality. Have a look around those types of stores instead of foot locker etc.
Nothing wrong with Stan’s, I’ve been wearing then for decades! I find them extremely comfortable, but you’re definitely right about the sole wearing thin! To me all these shoes are just copies of the Stan Smith just with better leather!

They are are fire and worth a test

I think Olukai offers a great sneaker, very comfortable.
I plan on buying a pair of Common Projects but I have a dilemma. I don’t know is they fit. Do they run big or small? I wear a size 8 mens and my feet are narrow. Could you help me?
Excellent stuff. Any thoughts on the new Koio Capris without the Margrom sole?
What do you think about the GrandPrø Rally Laser Cut Sneaker from Cole Haan?
Love the look, but how do you handle dark jeans rubbing dye off onto the white leather? I’ve had a few white sneakers ruined that way. Any tips?
Which shoe would be best for women with wide feet? And what about Birkenstock Bend Low? Any thoughts? Thank you.
Watched your vid, bought a pair. How about a vid on tying/lacing (the cool and fashionable way) the shoes. I know there the traditional way to tie/lace. What lacing is in fashion?
Why doesn’t anyone ever mention the Greats Royals? These are great shoes at the under $200 price point and go on sale often.
People used to, Im not sure why its popularity has fallen off. Most likely because they are basically just a 'premier' full leather Air Force 1.
I think because after Greats was bought by Steve Madden, people have been more skeptical about their quality. I have an old pair that's really nice, though (can't comment on the new ones).
@@BrockMcGoff I didn’t know that. I bought a pair about a year and a half ago and was impressed with their quality. Was thinking about another pair but maybe not now. Maybe the Koios then.
I recommend Filling Pieces - Plain Court 🥂
Which ones are most durable
Hi,modest man, I intend to buy a Thursday premium low, My sneakers normally are EU 43 US 9 depending what's the brand, some models I'm wearing US 9.5 EU 44, can advice I should go for US 9 or 9.5
Nice video 🔥🔥, can you do a back to school or College video in the future, thanks.
Which pair is most comfortable?
Great comparison! I'm trying to decide between Koio and Thursday boot shoe. Is it worth the extra money?
did you make a decision?
Great video, great info; thx. Quick question, I'm partial to textured/pebbled leathers & wondered how the sneakers from To Boot NY match up against these? Also, on the question of leathers, which would be better or more desirable between "full-grain tumbled calf leather", "Italian calf leather" & "Italian alpine deer-skin"?
Any suggestions on what to apply to the common projects sole / heel to prevent quick foot drag?
What is the sock you wear while modeling the Koio? I like that look, kinda cool retro look
All these minimalistic white sneakers are super narrow fit. . Are there any that are wider fit ?
You can get Crown Northampton in wide fit. Also, Allen Edmonds sneakers fit a bit wider than most.
Thursday make EE & EEEE options
Hi I'm in South Africa I need to know how much if I make order
The only thing I really wanna know - which is the most comfortable?
Try velasca shoes. They are very comfortable. But I'm not sure if velasca ships outside Italy. :/
Glasses game on point, very sharp!
I recently bought a pair of Ralph Lauren Court 100 Luxe. Awesome mixture of the 80s tennis shoes and the modern era’s sneakers. The quality is top as you’d expect from RL. Oh, and it was on sale, so I got it for 60€ instead of 160€. I recommend it!
How's the durability so far? I'm also thinking about spending a bit more than I usually do on some Ralph Lauren sneakers since I usually have to buy new white leather sneakers every 6 months or so
What's your opinion on this shoe after 2 years ? Would be interested !
@@KRaikkonenSF They’re still holding up! It’s quite amazing, considering the fact that I bought them two years ago. I’ve been wearing them often, and of course there are signs of that by now, but overal, the look of them is still very good. They’re very comfortable. The key thing is maintaining; clean them as often as you just can, and will serve you for many years. I am absolutely not planning to buy a new pair of white sneakers in the near future, because these RL ones are holding up very very good. I am still recommending it, you cannot go wrong with them, either by their look and the durability.
good, cause I can get commons for 250€ but still i'd say if there's another cool brand making the same thing for less... well :)@@albertkaszas9066
I currently wear Archibald London SF-01 sneakers. The kangaroo leather upper is great compared to the typical calf skin. Really enjoying them
Nice!
I just purchased the Thursday sneakers in white, size 10 and they fit perfect. But now I am looking at all the Oliver Cabell model shoes and they look amazing! Should I keep the Thursdays or return and get the OC's? Anyone try both? Looking at about a $70 difference. I cant find any comparisons between these two brands.
If they fit well, I wouldn't switch to the OCs b/c they're narrower and might not be as comfy. The quality isn't that different.
Hey Brock. I've noticed that Koio does not make their sneakers currently with margom soles. Any reason? Covid?
Any recommendations for the wide boys looking for a nice leather sneaker (need not be white) that can work for a super wide foot?
Do these clean up well to stay white?
Is there a men’s shoe segment for single backpack travelers, where one only brings one shoe for miles of walking, and going to nice restaurants that don’t allow sneakers?
TBH, I don't like the gold lettering on the Achilles Low.
I've got Koios (on sale) and they're great!
Love me some Koios. Glad you're enjoying them!
Scarosso Ugo is a pretty good alternative to Koio in the $200+ range (I have a Koio and Scarosso), can you guys talk about it next time?
Ace Marks sneakers are very very good. Greats sneakers are also a very good alternative. I own sneakers from both companies.
What about the "Unoriginals" and "Deluxe" from Nothing New?
Hi Brock! Thank you for helping us men dress better!
The shirt you are wearing seems quite nice. I am guessing it's chambray.
Could you tell me the fabric of the shirt you are wearing?
It is Japanese chambray cotton 👌🏼
@@BrockMcGoff Thank you!
Any reviews on Vince camuto sneakers?
Can you do a head to head comparison of Idrese vs Becket Simonon minimalist white low profile sneakers?
Love the video!
