Happy Birthday Jerry, you would have been 62 on 16 June, 2014. I worked with you in "Manon" at the Met, you sang beautifully that evening. We miss you.
More impressed with Hampson here than anywhere else I've heard him sing on YT...the romantic French idiom works well with his voice...and Hadley...damn, what a talent...and so sad that he left us WAY too early...nicest tenor version I've heard.
This brings tears to the eyes. Such artistry and musical sincerity is to treasure. God bless you Jerry, rest in peace. Thank you Thomas Hampson for such beautiful singing.
What a rendition by two of the finest singers of the opera stage. Hampson is great in this one and the late Jerry Hadley - what can one say? Bravo many times over!
I think I have heard most of the duos perform this aria. I think this duo has to be the best, in my opinion! They were magnificent!!! No voice over-powered the other. They blended equally as well! Hampson and Hadley were a great match! What a terrible tragedy that Hadley is no longer with us!! He could have had a great career! May he rest in Heavenly Peace!!
Bill dropped his keys on the counter and stood there staring at them, suddenly thinking about all the times he'd thrown his keys there before, and how many days of his life were wasted repeating the same tasks and rituals in his apartment over and over again. But then he wondered if, realistically, this was his life, and the unusual part was his time spent doing other things.
Hadley is magnificent! Hampson has a charming beautiful voice, but he is a tenor. Where is the baritone in this duet? This performance is indeed a tenor duet!
@@grr8048 I like Ruffo, Stracciari, Grandforte, Basiola, Becchi, BASTIANINI, Protti, Tibbet, Warren, McNail, Merrill, etc. None of them sound like tenors.
I’m a bass-baritone with 25 years of opera/operetta experience. The lower voice in this duet is definitely intended for the baritone voice. It requires power in the lower moving notes to keep from being overwhelmed while the tenor is soaring. The roles themselves indicate the appropriate fach: youth and passion for the tenor, gravitas and authority for the bass-baritone.
They sing so passionately. Joyous to hear them together.
The world is less beautiful without Jerry Hadley in it.
So badly missed today and more so in the days years to come...

Magnifique interprétation.....
Magnificent! I had never come across this until today. Their voices blend together better than most that I've heard.

HE HAD A GREAT CARRER!!! - I heard him a year before his death in Dresden. He had lost somewhat of his voice
This version makes me cry...
Beautifully sung and acted with impeccable pronunciation - a pleasure to hear. Well done America.
I felt like I saw a slice of heaven tonight. Thank you for posting this!
Che tristezza che questo magnifico tenore sia scomparso così tragicamente!
~.~ Hypnotically beautiful and so very moving ~.~
They sing very well together! Bravo!!!
the two tenors! :)
Superb singing, this is the definative duo.
Oh yes, so very beautiful.
ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT !!!!

Oh, Jerry. WHY?????
Are you serious? Hampson is one of the best baritone in the world. How can you say that?
Au fond means behind! Not inside.
Per favore, traducete in italiano anche la lingua inglese, non tutti la conoscono bene! Grazie 🙏!
Hadley is magnificent! Hampson has a charming beautiful voice, but he is a tenor. Where is the baritone in this duet? This performance is indeed a tenor duet!
Tiring Hampson bashing...
Most of the brilliant baritones in the early of the last century should sound like tenor for you.

Is the conductor John Williams?!
Yes.
Yes
I can sing this too
it's systematic: if the tenor pronounces one way, Hampson will pronounce it differently. I prefer Hadley-Titus.
The 1986 Hadley/Titus version is better. To me Hampson should have chosen tenor.
TheGamingRex exactly!!!!
Hmm, didn't know this was written for two tenors. Hadley is great, Hampson is embarassing.
These stupid comments of a certain bunch of haters are so tiring...
@@Beadle_Bamford Hampson is a tenor. Hadley is great. You just sound silly 😛
