      Ah, yes, my extensive education in canine and feline behavior and decade of experience in veterinary medicine, as well as my Fear Free Certification, totally do not qualify me to critique someone who clearly doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to practical life skills. I'll just be staying in my lane doing cooperative care training and counter conditioning fear, anxiety, and stress while also preventing those in the every day lives of pets. :)

      I was really impressed...I'm still trying to figure out is inertia compassionate, is she protective of bree..,did she sense she had to behave well while dad was gone...do bree and inertia just gel like that? Its interesting..,she even would wait without bree asking.,,border collies are crazy smart. I actually didnt think inertia would take advantage of bree...I just felt in my gut she was gonna be good.

    Questions: If you've written a book/course on how to get a "perfect pup" in 30 days, why is Inertia way behind on her life skills? Also, what's your educational background that qualifies you to write a book/course about dog training and behavior in the first place? (Educational background, NOT experience ;) )

    • @alexisfluit
      @alexisfluit 4 роки тому +6

      I am curious about this too? Did you take any courses in dog behaviour or psychology? Do you belong to any professional organizations that require you to continue your education to maintain your membership? Did you mentor under someone else? If so, who was it? I know you began at PetSmart but let's be honest, their training is basic and their trainers get like 2 weeks of education. If over 2 million people are going to listen to you it'd be nice to know what authority you speak from.

    • @zakgeorge
      @zakgeorge  4 роки тому +9

      In my 30 day Perfect PUP program I make it very clear that I am giving the viewer the basics that they then need to apply over the next year of training in a variety of places and contexts as I’m doing here. I actually make this point on the very first lesson. Great question!

      @louevans1914 4 роки тому +6

      I have nothing against you. With respect, I simply wish to explain a bit.
      There is no requirement for “educational background,” for any person wanting to write a book. (Yes that means a person can literally make everything up and publish.)
      That being said, having an “educational background” does not mean you know what you are talking about. Especially in the case of dog, horse, and other such training. All the education in the world can mean absolutely nothing if you do not have the life experience.
      I’m not talking specifically about Zac George, but any trainer.
      That being said, Zac has worked with dogs for a fair amount of time and I would say has amassed enough knowledge to share it with others.

    Oh yay, intermediate park! She did great in this setting, looked like a challenge level that was just about right for her, especially since you left a large distance from the most exciting distractions. My question is this: Do you think doing the downtown work before you did this park session was productive in the training process, or counterproductive? I tend to personally try for (and instruct clients to try for) this level of challenge, while avoiding the French Quarter level of challenge (based on overall success rates and attention to trainer) as so difficult as to be likely to be counterproductive because the success rate is so much lower. In retrospect, would you do those sessions in the same order, or do something different if you could do it all over again?
    Always nice to see Bree, and she has top notch skills herself.

    • @zakgeorge
      @zakgeorge  4 роки тому +9

      Well, the point of this session was more about doing some actual training whereas, the downtown environment was more about introducing and desensitizing her. So the two lessons had different primary objectives, though both lessons had a little of each! Fantastic question!

    Hey Zak! My dog won't react to treats outside the house... He only cares about the surroundings and smells. Even when I get him to do something for me and give him a treat, he oftenly just spits it out, even though I don't feed him before walks. When I try playing fetch with him, he oftely goes for the toy but changes direction halfway and goes to smell something. This is so annoying, I used to train him according to your videos since he was 3 months old and it went perfectly, I was so amazed with his behavior. But now, when he's 1 year old, I can't get him pay attention to me at all!

    I was wondering if you could do a video about what to do with an older rescue dog when you bring them home for the first time.

    I have a 15 month old BC too, he shares so many traits with inertia, especially those intense eyes! Been loving the real training series here for ref. Mine is not a foodie at all and so treat training isn't the best. I use a toy out and about, but feel as though it has become a distraction technique more than positive reinforcement. Any tips? Look forward to the next vid!

      If your dog is motivated by play, see if they are into frisbee or tug of war, I find both of them to be the best training toys for my dog, give it a go you never know

    I’m not gonna say this as complete hate but I am just curious, why did she react like that when he got home? I don’t get it? Because he was away for so long and when he got back she was very not happy. Like she wasn’t as happy as most dogs I’ve seen. Maybe I’m just crazy or it’s something else. I don’t want to be mean but it’s like they have barley any connection. Maybe she is just so young? I don’t know.

      Maybe a border collie thing? She’s kind of “all business”. But we do love each other very much! She just doesn’t have that “goofy” lab-like personality, you know? Though I’d be just as happy if she did!

      @@zakgeorge Or maybe because you walked in very calmly like you are supphosed to do when training a dog. Most owners makes to much excitement for the dog when they come and leave. A calm dog is awsome

      my dog is like that too, she will sometimes howl when I come home from work, but if you don’t reinforce excited behaviour when you come in they don’t keep it up. She doesn’t really get excited about much to begin with, i think it might just be my dogs personality. She is a mutt and i have had her for 7 months

      Thank you guys for explaining it just really confused me! I’d just never met a dog or seen a dog so that but your right, maybe it is just there personality or the breed! Maybe it is the way he walked in! Thank you!

    • @louevans1914

      I agree it would make a neat video.
      However it’s actually one of the more simple things to do. The calmer you greet your dog the calmer they will greet you.
      As an example: My mum gets super excited when reuniting with my dogs. In turn they greet her like crazies.
      With me though they are super mellow. I never greet them excited. I just give happy, but chill affection.

      @@louevans1914 if only it were that easy. I don't come in the house all excited and insane. I simply walk in and try to put my stuff down before engaging further with them. You'd think I came in every day with a steak around my neck sometimes!
