I've worked few WRC events as security. It is amazing how insanely loud the cars are. Shame I wasn't into photography back then. I had basically limitless access. Also for those panning shots, even if the car is bit blurry the pictures still scream "speeeeed!". Awesome shots.

macodirect in germany are the distributors of that film
In 1920, Paul Franke and Reinhold Heidecke founded Rollei. 100 years later, in 2020, we celebrate the brand‘s anniversary. This limited twin-pack is dedicated to them.

I just purchased the Paul & Rheinhold film here in New Jersey but have yet to use it. Glad I found your video on the films. I liked the sepia toned pic of the car!

Nice! Great humour and subject matter -- who doesn't love vintage cars?! Thanks for sharing.

Some of the panning shots worked really well! Panning is hard enough to do with digital so doing it with film is very impressive 🏆❤️

Can't believe I missed this one studying all weekend!!! Would've been great to try out my Pentax ES' aperture priority with some longer m42 lenses

Cheers Roger. Glad to see the lens in use!
Cheat code for cars in motion, shutter priority! For lots of panning blur up to about 60mph closing speed, 1/40-1/80 shutter time will work well with good tracking, up to 1/125 second you'll get some motion blur in the wheels. By 1/250 all motion is more or less frozen at the speeds these cars are moving.
Other F6 tip, set the AF mode to AF-ON only. That way you can let the autofocus track without trying to finesse the half press of the shutter button.

Love your photos mate! Clean and nice! Is your ap usually like F8? Iso 640 is nice! Keep em coming please! I guess 1/140 is a little too slow but well said. Shoot rather than bob your head :) thanks for sharing lovely shots towards the end! Nice skit! Enjoyed the framing as well

I was in shutter priority and locked the shutter at 1/40th. So the camera decided the aperture against the 640 ISO Film. Which I knew would be small,

Roger, you are a life affirming force and I can even forgive you for getting so many freebies (any spares...) I caught this when feeling quite down and without energy after a spell of ill-health and it really lifted my spirits. I've also been binge-watching all your old darkroom videos in search of tips, so immediately went on to your printing video. Now must go, I've got 4x5 negs to scan and a darkroom to keep working on. Thanks.

A welcome change indeed. Roger. As for the origins of this film, there is very little information about, but in my search I came across an outfit called labeauratoire who have a ' new ' iso 640 ( surprise surprise ) b&w film called the Big Brother 640. The name should be the clue here. It is a traffic surveillance film for Police. I remember all the fuss that Rollei made in the early years of 2000 with their R3, claiming a new revolutionary film that could be used anywhere between iso 100 ~iso 1600. It turned out to be a horrible grainy affair which was another traffic surveillance film from the years gone by.

Thanks. I just researched it and yes it seems to be so! Not sure if it's the same. I found this..... (ISO 640 35mm black-and-white film, one with a “Paul” sticker and the other with a “Reinhold” sticker, in a two-film pocket case. Unknown old stock re-spooled by Ferrania ? )

@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Quite possible my friend, quite possible. All I know is that the number of genuine film manufacturers in the western world can be counted on the fingers of one hand. PS: there is also that obscure tech film manufacturer in France with their X-Ray line up and all that, but that is a highly special outfit I guess.

Awesome content. I've tried panning shots with a dslr and that's a really hard photo to take and you had alot of good shots on film which I think is insane! I'd love to get some panning shots like that. Best car on video was Lancia Delta for me. I also liked the escort cosworth on your panning shots. Nice work.

Check out larry chen's photography, sure he does digital but he know how to shoot cars, I do think a stabilized lens wouldve helped, but I liked your results! Love this kinda content!!

If you get another chance, you might try a faster film for the panning shots - they do take practice. In my younger days (late 60's early 70's) I would shoot up most of a 100 foot roll of 400 ASA Tri-X on a 3 day race weekend - Formula 1 and the Can-Am series - get yourself solid footing - pivot at the waist and try to steady your arms - once you get it to work for you, the cars will be clear- the next trick to to keep them completely in the frame

    • @ShootFilmLikeaBoss

Cheers Rick! It'll take a lot of practice. That was a once a year street event. But, I could practice on the roads I suppose :)

That was absolutely LOVELY. Beautiful, movie-like, beginning. Very funny scene with giving a photo of a car to its owner. And honesty thanks to which I started to think if a tripod would help. Now to the "making a print" part from your shoot -my favorite since I am also a darkroom guy. I want to and try to photograph sport with a film camera, so that was particularly interesting.

    • @ShootFilmLikeaBoss

A tripod would have been a hindrance. For me at least. It would have kept my frames accurate though (top and bottom)

We have race tracks near me. I used to ride my motorcycle on them (see video at the bottom of my channel). Now that I have the 500mm F4 I may have to make another trip. Pan shots are fun to try, but hard to nail.

Hey John. Yeah definitely needs practice! And that lens would be awesome in the right position
