I started painting about 2 1/2 years ago and watched YT vids to learn how to paint. I used Dollar Tree canvases and inexpensive craft paint and brushes to start. I wanted to make sure I was going to enjoy painting before I spent good money on supplies. I LOVE to paint and do so every day now. Your octopus is FABulous! Painting can be affordable and you've proven it. Hope to see more paintings from you!
Thank you very much! I'm so pleased you liked it. It sounds like we started out the same way. I have tried other more expensive paints since then. Arteza student grade acrylic and both Golden open and Golden heavy body acrylics now. I like them both but keep coming back to Apple barrel for not only its affordability but for it's more liquid consistency. I find it easier to blend which is always a challenge with acrylics. I reached to to Plaid, the makers of Apple barrel acrylic about the lightfastness of this paint. While it doesn't have a printed rating on the bottles, they claim it has 1-2 rating on a 1-5 scale (1 best the best) which makes me more comfortable working with this brand paint. I very much appreciate your comment!
@@sawdustandslivers4102 It's my pleasure. I haven't tried Golden Open paints, but would like to, and I'm surprised to hear the apple barrel paint has such a high lightfastness rating. I wouldn't be afraid to use them again that being the case. Looking forward to watching more of your painting videos.
great composition, animal choice and the use of color. - a few tips- 1-tape your reference to easel so all u have to do is move your eyes or head 2- you nailed the values on the tentacles, but the head looks flat. use your light source and tell a story even if the reference photo doesnt really show it. 3- never use full black or white untill at the end for highlights. and even then add a touch of blue or yellow to warm it or colden it....... use dark blues and purples with a touch of black to shades. keep it up! love to see more ocean creatures!!
I am also new. I started a year ago. This one was my first attempt at an animal and was much more difficult than I expected it to be but I was relieved that it turned out ok. Thank you so much for viewing and commenting!
This was just an economy pre gesso'd canvas. I put nothing on it but the craft paint you see. Using a dry soft 2" brush with light touch seems to help greatly smooth the background color. Thank you very much for watching!
Thank you for the incredible help in my octopus study. Now it's time to dip my brush into the paint 🧑🎨✨
Thank you! I hope it inspired you.
