How To Make a Retractable Loft Ladder
#111 This was quite the challenge but was also very rewarding! I hope you enjoyed the video. I am a small channel and would be very pleased if you like, comment, and/or subscribe.
I did not offer great detail as far as dimensions due the fact any reproduction of the build would be subject building it to the particular dimensions of that space.
Thank you very much for watching!!!

#107 Thank you for watching! After the effort it took to make this system, I would advise that if you use chisels, just spend the money on the package deal from Taylor tools works. I am not affiliated with them in any way. But I can say with confidence that this setup does work very well and is worth the cost. taytools.com/products/drill-press-sharpening-system-v2-dce?variant=40252820226135

Great video!!!
@@laurieashafer Thank you! I hope you found it helpful.
Great way to show how to do this. I am very new to learning this. Thanks
Your welcome, hopefully it helps!
Thank you for this. Do you use it with plane irons too?
I have not, but you definitely could. The only difference would be having to make a different base to hold the iron as the bevel on a plane iron is generally 30 degrees vs 25 degrees on a chisel. Thanks for the comment!
What is the name of the song playing? It is cool!
It's called Ghost in the daylight, by Harris Heller. Thanks for watching!!
@@sawdustandslivers4102 Thank you very much!
Great shop! I had the same Craftsman band saw years ago. Would still have it if I had the room.
Thank you very much! Your shop is looking good. I watch all your videos and wish you the best of luck with your channel.
Yesterday I was looking for inspriation and ran across your channel. Thank you for allowing yourself to vulnerable by showing us all your paintings. I too am on this journey. Though years ago I had one formal classes in college and a couple classes at my local Rec Center, I can relate to your journey. I see your best and my favorite as the bird (3:22) and the bridge (3:06). You nailed the difficult perspective of the bridge. Not an easy feat. I have to give a shout out for the elk as he is my second fav.
Thank you so much for the comment!!! I wish you the best in you painting journey. I am hoping to get more painting videos out soon.
Thanks for this information
Thanks for watching and for taking time to comment!!
Great tour Mark ! thanks

Very nice thx for sharing Keep building

Any issues with the wood being outside of the temp controlled main shop area? I store wood in a separate area and get warped boards often.
Yes and no. Because my old shop was and unconditioned space and all my lumber is air dried I was familiar with the issues that come with that. In the new building I bring the rough sawn lumber in and plane it on 2 sides but not down to its final dimension. Then stack and sticker it with weights and or clamps for 2-7 days (or as long in advance as I can wait) with a box fan blowing at it to let it acclimate. Weighting or securing it down during that period made all the difference. After that time I cut and dimension it down to its final size. I have far fewer issues with warping and twisting that way. I do also have lumber stored over head of the cabinets, my intention is that when I don't have time to wait a week to start a project I could use that material. Thank you very much for the comment!!!
Very nice :)
Thank you very much!
Greatly appreciate your video, as it verified that I was on the right track when processing my calculations. I've only made one chevron board, only used my calculator to do run the numbers. Afterwards, I found that same website that you mentioned....that little calculator website will definitely help save some battery life of my handheld calculator. Also, despite the additional waste incurred, I also prefer the 45° chevron over the 30°. Great video, thanks.
Thank you for taking time to comment, I glad it helped!!
Thx for sharing
My pleasure
Amazing painting 😊
@@asmafarooq6769 Thank you!!
I also paint a rainbow trout and uploaded on UA-cam as short video. 😊
Cool, I'll check it out!
These are awesome well done. What did you use for the numbers?
Thank you! The numbers are self adhesive vinyl, I had my wife cut them out on her cricket.
How do you keep score on the post? Do you insert a tooth pick or small wooden dowel?
With a golf tee used as a peg.
Epic
Nice work on the little details! All those little shapes at the end must have been annoying! Think I might try to make one soon too but with solid oak 🫠 I don’t want to be able to comfortably lift it
Thanks! The shapes were quite a bit more difficult than I anticipated. I can wield mine but I wouldn't say it is comfortable, lol. It was a fun build and tested some new methods I've not really used in traditional woodworking builds. Definitely worth the effort.
nice job guy, does it cut?
Lol, it will kill!
@@sawdustandslivers4102 you got a license for that?
LOL, no. I'm not a woodworker, but I play one on UA-cam.
Awesome. Only other video game paintings I have seen are BitHead1000 doing the backs of Jean jackets. Battle jackets as some call them. He has done maybe five and are worth a quick watch.
Thanks, I'll check it out!
Great fun. Love the materia gems inset. Very nostalgic. I have cut through my Wandel push sticks and didn’t realize it until after. Scary because the birds mouth could have been cut off causing me to loose the control on board and maybe push the stick/hand into blade.
Thanks. Yes, tables saws deserve every ounce of our attention. I appreciate he comment!
So my stand is pretty much complete but i lost the message where you told me the hole size for the drink holder. We will use cans or bottles
I do a 3" hole. You could go with as small as 2 3/4" if using only cans and bottles but I wouldn't go any smaller than that.
@@sawdustandslivers4102 ok thnx
Blew my mind with the in cabinet kiln, it's in my future! Nice Job all around.
Thank you, I wasn't sure it would retain enough heat. I figured I could always just make doors and lower cabinets if not, but it is working quite nicely. Thanks for the comment!!
Thank you. Helpful.
Glad it was helpful! I appreciate you taking time to comment!
Ok thanks, I'll just pick up a hole saw, don't think I have that size. For 2" and down I love my forstner bits and for big holes I have a Compas for my plunge router Thanks again
Absolutely! np.
Thanks, and I clearly overlooked the obvious, lol. If you centered the 3" post on a 14" piece and cut out a 3" square that leaves 11" out of that 14" and divided by 2 means the short cut is the 5 1/2 lol. I can't believe I didn't think of that, lol. I cut all the pieces and didn't have time to do any more and was trying to think how it was done. Guess maybe had put it to hands-on. I could have gotten it, but I do appreciate your help. One last thing, I know how to center the holes, but what is the diameter of the holes because even if I use your dimensions up and over, it's centered but I like the distance I see between the holes on yours. I need a hole saw because I don't have that gizmo you have. I pretty much have every tool imaginable just never saw one of them. Thanks again
I do a 3" hole. That way it fits both a can or a solo cup. If just doing can you could go with 2-3/4". I got the drill for cutting the hole from amazon, if you type "heavy duty circle cutter", it should be the first item that pops up. It has certainly been useful quite a few times, but you have to keep the cutter head very sharp or it quickly builds up heat. Also need a pretty heavy duty drill press to run it. It's easily adjustable to cut up to almost an 8 inch hole, but I wouldn't recommend pushing it to that size. I've cut 6 inch holes with but that's about as big as I would go with it if you decide to get one.
The angle on the vertical post is 3° I see. However my question would be if you were to measure from the side down with the angle, how far up on the side, and how far at the bottom towards the center? Then the angle for the base piece, what's that? Or what's the measurement for the long point at the bottom and the short point for the top that would give the best angle. I'm an advanced woodworker and can figure it out messing around, but you make them all the time, so I figured I'd just ask. I made a set of Wisconsin Badger boards and very unique, and these will go great with it. Thanks
Unfortunately my approach when making them is fairly untechnical. Since the post is 3" wide I know that the widest part of the mouth for the base has also be 3 inches. That makes my short dimension length of the base angle part to be 5 1/2". I mark that and set my table saw miter gauge to 3 degrees and make the cut (on 4 pieces 3/4" thick, setting a stop block to ensure consistent length). This could also be done on a decent miter saw but short stock and miters saw can get sketchy. That cut piece can be used before the glue up to scribe a line on the post by lining up to the end the post (the end needs to be cut a a clean 90 degrees for this to be effective). This way even if you missed 3 degrees by a little bit the angles will still match. After the base has been glued I make the cut on the post, staying just outside the line. Then lastly I fine tune the fit by sanding to post on a belt sander. Hopefully that explains the mess of how my brain works, lol Thank you for inquiring, I should have detailed that part more in the video.
There's also a couple measurements missing In your drawing regarding the base
That was just a quick sketch I did for the general measurements I used. I apologize it wasn't more comprehensive. For the base material all of my wood was planed to 3/4". I cut 6 parts to 3" by 14". 4 of these make up the 2 side walls of the base and the 2 lateral supports. The other 2 will make up the center segments of the base that will have the 3 degree angle on them. The short measurement on the angled board (which is the top of the angle to the outside edge) would be 5 1/2" in length. If that makes any sense.
I like it but it seems a bit short as far as having to bend down to move the pegs. However I'm afraid it may be tippy if it's much higher
Agreed. Some cornhole makers have incorporated a scoreboard into the board set, which requires bending way down. I tried to get it a bit higher but still provide some stability while keep its size down as not to make it cumbersome. Thanks for the comment!
Very nice :)
Thank you very much!

Thank you!! Enjoy it, sea life painting are fun!
Hi there! I see you have a Delta Cruiser. Would you mind sharing how you solved the dust collection issue with it?
The guy on Shop Nation UA-cam channel sells a redesigned 3D printed dust port. While it still is a miter saw and broadcasts some dust, changing to his dust port greatly improved the dust collection. I noticed also that if I make slower cuts vs hogging through a cut that it does far better, but that's the case with most miter saws anyway. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

excellent, I'm glad I watch it. Perhaps a couple of straight edge clamping guides would be faster?
That could work well, it's just quick and cheap to use scrap wood. Thanks for watching!!
I like this idea. I think I'll try doing this for rabbets as well for larger pieces.
Thanks, I did that on the second project on the video. I just didn't showcase that. I appreciate the comment!
