The Hidden Function of Your Makita Track Saw
Переглядів 76Місяць тому
20 mm arbor blades are more expensive. Most have a higher tooth count; this makes them great for cutting sheet goods. That is primarily what these saws were intended for. But for ripping a lower tooth count and deeper gullets is the correct blade. It's difficult to find a 20 mm arbor ripping blade but in 5/8 arbor they are readily available and less expensive. The Mikita engineers deserve a pat...

    sure wish it was clear in what quantities they are talking about when they point to some of these side affects. brain damage? chlorine is fetal if inhaled, yet it's added to drinking water... what kind of exposure puts you at risk?

      Small occasional exposures are probably not an issue, but that's just my common sense thought. Chronic exposure would certainly not be good. I have gotten much more mindful of how I'm using accelerator spray. Being educated on the risk is our best defense. I don't want to be part of some law suit at some point because of health issues due to exposure. Round-up is a good example. Thanks for the comment!

    I've been playing with the idea of doing this with my Makita Sp6000J lately. (I have an ultra finish blade I bought a while back without thinking about arbor size). Seems fine with the arbor nut flipped and 5/8" arbor blade installed. I gave it a few test spins, but I've been too nervous to put load on the blade and cut anything. Thanks for posting, let me know how it goes.

    This is just the thing that I'm going to be needing. We have a "hatch" for our attic that is above the door. The room has a cathedral ceiling that goes from about 11 to 16 feet. The current hatch is maybe three by three and we use a regular A-frame ladder to get up there. It isn't an easy thing- especially as my wife and I get older. We're planning to have the "hatch" moved to the other side of the attic so it can be much taller- probably about 5 to 6 feet, and get some sort of folding ladder like the one you made here that can rest against a wall when not in use.

    I find it fantastic. Once i made the jig it was so quick and i got them so sharp. Best results for me after years of wetstones, diamond stones, grinding discs, sandpapers, those little rolling jigs, and everything in between. This system is the best and easily sharpest i have gotten my chisels, plane blades. I was so impressed i went and did every thing with a blade i could. Going to sell my slow triton wetstone machine. First time something actually is as good as they said.

    Yeah you really don't wanna breath that stuff in. Probably even needs an ABEK respirator, at least I wouldn't trust a simple particle filter. Personally I prefer using a combination of normal wood glue and a 23 gauge pin nailer (pneumatic or battery powered) if possible. It's instant, non toxic and alot more fun to use

    • @sawdustandslivers4102
      @sawdustandslivers4102 Місяць тому

      Yes, I agree. I use an organic filter respirator when applying (high voc) finishes, that same filter works for CA glue related jobs but it would certainly be preferred to use health friendly adhesive like pva wood glue. Thank you for the comment!!

    Any issues with the wood being outside of the temp controlled main shop area? I store wood in a separate area and get warped boards often.

    • @sawdustandslivers4102
      @sawdustandslivers4102 5 місяців тому

      Yes and no. Because my old shop was and unconditioned space and all my lumber is air dried I was familiar with the issues that come with that. In the new building I bring the rough sawn lumber in and plane it on 2 sides but not down to its final dimension. Then stack and sticker it with weights and or clamps for 2-7 days (or as long in advance as I can wait) with a box fan blowing at it to let it acclimate. Weighting or securing it down during that period made all the difference. After that time I cut and dimension it down to its final size. I have far fewer issues with warping and twisting that way. I do also have lumber stored over head of the cabinets, my intention is that when I don't have time to wait a week to start a project I could use that material. Thank you very much for the comment!!!

  • @supertruckerrolling
    @supertruckerrolling 9 місяців тому

    Thanks, and I clearly overlooked the obvious, lol. If you centered the 3" post on a 14" piece and cut out a 3" square that leaves 11" out of that 14" and divided by 2 means the short cut is the 5 1/2 lol. I can't believe I didn't think of that, lol. I cut all the pieces and didn't have time to do any more and was trying to think how it was done. Guess maybe had put it to hands-on. I could have gotten it, but I do appreciate your help. One last thing, I know how to center the holes, but what is the diameter of the holes because even if I use your dimensions up and over, it's centered but I like the distance I see between the holes on yours. I need a hole saw because I don't have that gizmo you have. I pretty much have every tool imaginable just never saw one of them. Thanks again

    • @sawdustandslivers4102
      @sawdustandslivers4102 9 місяців тому

      I do a 3" hole. That way it fits both a can or a solo cup. If just doing can you could go with 2-3/4". I got the drill for cutting the hole from amazon, if you type "heavy duty circle cutter", it should be the first item that pops up. It has certainly been useful quite a few times, but you have to keep the cutter head very sharp or it quickly builds up heat. Also need a pretty heavy duty drill press to run it. It's easily adjustable to cut up to almost an 8 inch hole, but I wouldn't recommend pushing it to that size. I've cut 6 inch holes with but that's about as big as I would go with it if you decide to get one.

  • @supertruckerrolling
    @supertruckerrolling 9 місяців тому

    The angle on the vertical post is 3° I see. However my question would be if you were to measure from the side down with the angle, how far up on the side, and how far at the bottom towards the center? Then the angle for the base piece, what's that? Or what's the measurement for the long point at the bottom and the short point for the top that would give the best angle. I'm an advanced woodworker and can figure it out messing around, but you make them all the time, so I figured I'd just ask. I made a set of Wisconsin Badger boards and very unique, and these will go great with it. Thanks

    • @sawdustandslivers4102
      @sawdustandslivers4102 9 місяців тому

      Unfortunately my approach when making them is fairly untechnical. Since the post is 3" wide I know that the widest part of the mouth for the base has also be 3 inches. That makes my short dimension length of the base angle part to be 5 1/2". I mark that and set my table saw miter gauge to 3 degrees and make the cut (on 4 pieces 3/4" thick, setting a stop block to ensure consistent length). This could also be done on a decent miter saw but short stock and miters saw can get sketchy. That cut piece can be used before the glue up to scribe a line on the post by lining up to the end the post (the end needs to be cut a a clean 90 degrees for this to be effective). This way even if you missed 3 degrees by a little bit the angles will still match. After the base has been glued I make the cut on the post, staying just outside the line. Then lastly I fine tune the fit by sanding to post on a belt sander. Hopefully that explains the mess of how my brain works, lol Thank you for inquiring, I should have detailed that part more in the video.

  • @supertruckerrolling
    @supertruckerrolling 9 місяців тому

    There's also a couple measurements missing In your drawing regarding the base

    • @sawdustandslivers4102
      @sawdustandslivers4102 9 місяців тому

      That was just a quick sketch I did for the general measurements I used. I apologize it wasn't more comprehensive. For the base material all of my wood was planed to 3/4". I cut 6 parts to 3" by 14". 4 of these make up the 2 side walls of the base and the 2 lateral supports. The other 2 will make up the center segments of the base that will have the 3 degree angle on them. The short measurement on the angled board (which is the top of the angle to the outside edge) would be 5 1/2" in length. If that makes any sense.

  • @supertruckerrolling

    • @sawdustandslivers4102
      @sawdustandslivers4102 9 місяців тому

      Agreed. Some cornhole makers have incorporated a scoreboard into the board set, which requires bending way down. I tried to get it a bit higher but still provide some stability while keep its size down as not to make it cumbersome. Thanks for the comment!
