People who claim he is the greatest player of all time are deluded . Against the best teams at the time such as liverpool. leeds , man city etc . He did nothing . Northern Ireland dominated, and Best was at his absolute best. I remember his boot coming off at one point when he was about to take a corner. He just hit it with his left foot like it was no trouble at all.
The trouble with Scotland back then was that we had great players ( Best and Jennings apart , the Scots were individually superior ) but they just couldn't bring it all together and perform as a unit . Best was irresistible this day .
Remarkably, the team in green were then referred to as Ireland.in those days. After they were forced to play away for 8 or so years( due to Scotland "the brave" refusing to play in Belfast),they were subsequently known as Northern Ireland as the political divide hardened.

Not quite true, there were only 4 Celtic players in Scotland team: Ronnie Simpson, Tommy Gemmell, Bobby Murdoch and Willie Wallace. Pity Jimmy Johnstone wasn't playing - him and Best on same park at their peak would have been something!
