    Thank you for this. Im now in a position to work remotely and Im wanting to snowbird from the PNW to the southwest. I am narrowed down to the T@B 400 and the Airstream Basecamp 20 (egad)
    This was my introduction to the Safari Condo line. I love this! Im 6'5" and I was excited about the height. but I think that greenhouse effect is going to be a deal breaker. Not to mention there is likely going to be some serious human origami going on to use that poo shed. Ive noticed the T@B has the dumper set at an angle. But I gotta try all these on for size yet. But my biggest criticism is that for someone just encountering this brand, it is incredibly difficult to find any (passive - i.e. not picking up the phone and whatnot) information about dealers and servicing in the US.
    Thanks for the detailed information

    Did you ever get it off pavement? How does it do on forest service roads or washboard roads? I'd be worried any flex would cause the windows to crack or the pop-up mechanism to get misaligned. I realize its not a true rugged off road trailer like some, but it would be nice to know if you can drag it down a dirt road or something with some washboard as long as you drove carefully.

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  10 місяців тому +1

      We spent about half our time camping in our r1723 on national Forest roads and similar free camping land in the Pacific Northwest. Like you said, it's not a true rugged off-road trailer, but we were blown away by its durability. We spend the majority of our time boondocking which takes us down some pretty inhospitable roads and we've never had an issue.
      For what it's worth, we belong to some online communities with hundreds of other Alto owners and I've never heard of a window breaking on dirt or gravel roads.
      Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and let us know if you have any other questions.

    Great tour, love watching your video...I was wondering if you use the inside shower often! I'm considering the R1713 or R1723, still not sure?

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  7 місяців тому

      Thanks so much for watching! Yes, we use the inside shower all the time, but we live out of the trailer and do a lot of boondocking and dry camping in places where there are not showers available, so it is a no-brainer option for us. Getting an indoor shower or not really depends on the kind of camping you like to do. If you plan to exclusively stay at campgrounds with full hookups and that offers shower facilities, it may not make sense for you. That said, the shower option as a very minimal impact on the interior square footage of the trailer, having the ability to close the door to the bathroom and draw the curtain is really nice when you're using the toilet (something you're not able to do with the 1713), and having an indoor shower really helps the resale value of the trailer in case your plans ever change or you want to upgrade to a different trailer in the future.
      Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

    How long does one propane tank last? Is it only for the sink and shower? How long does it take for the water in the shower heat up? How many showers - or minutes of showers - does the fresh water tank provide? Great video, thank you!

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  9 місяців тому

      You can get a single propane tank or two like we have. The propane is used for cabin and water heating. Depending on the water heater you buy, you can also use electricity if you have electrical hookups to heat both of those things. Propane is also used for the gas burners in the kitchen.
      Safari condo sells a instant hot water heater that uses propane and provides unlimited hot water instantly. The model we have takes about 20 to 30 minutes (depending on the groundwater temperature) to heat 3 gallons of water to 140°. When mixed with cold water to reach the desired temperature, that's enough to give both of us a short shower.
      How long showers can last depend on the flow rate of water. I barely open up the water valve so it comes out very slowly and I can take longer showers. If you open the valve all the way for higher pressure, your hot water will only last a few minutes.
      Taking short showers, we find that each of us can do 2 to 3 short showers (four to six total) until the gray tank is full.
      Hope that helps. We're so glad you liked the video!

    • @JustinandJess

      Thanks for watching. They are glass windows along the top and they have excellent custom blackout curtains that run along tracks near the ceiling.

    Hi: I am considering this camper but have two questions if you can help out: 1) this is regular toilet with black water. How can you deal with at a regular campground? 2) is there a 4 or 7-Pin cable connector for brake and signal lights? Is there an option for adding electrical brakes? Thanks a lot, Joe

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  Рік тому +3

      Hey Joe. Thanks for watching.
      Yes, this trailer has a regular flush toilet with a 12 gallon black tank (and a 12 gallon gray tank). It has a standard RV dump valve so you can connect a hose to sewage hookups at your campsite.
      This trailer has a 7-pin cable and electric brakes are installed on all Alto trailers by default. If you do not have a wired brake controller installed in your tow vehicle, Safari condo can install a wireless brake controller on the trailer.
      Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any other questions and good luck with your research.

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  Рік тому +1

      @@joeextraknow2854 any campgrounds that allow RVs will let the R1723 in. That being said, make sure your campground allows them before taking your rig. I am aware of other Alto owners that we're allowed to bring their trailers to tent-only sites (with permission) because they have caravan movers which allow them to easily turn them into tight spots that other trailers otherwise would not be able to fit into.

    After what has seemed an interminable waiting period, we're finally ready to take delivery of our Alto R1713. We leave for Quebec (from California) next week!
    Quick question for you two: As we cross the border back into the U.S.A. will we encounter any kind of import duty?

    • @JustinandJess
      @JustinandJess  2 роки тому +1

      Hey James. Glad you enjoyed the video and that's exciting news about your pickup date!
      Regarding your question, the short answer is "No, you should not encounter any kind of import duty". I can't answer from personal experience as we picked up our pre-owned Alto in the U.S., however I just asked others in the 'Alto Owners' Facebook group and received the following reply...
      "Safari Condo will give you the needed paperwork to import your trailer into the USA. You will spend some time at the border processing the paperwork. All fees are [payed as part of] your purchase price, except registration in your home state." Another Alto owner suggested that "Camp trailers (new and used) and parts thereof can be imported to the USA duty free".
      Please keep in mind that your results may vary as government processes are subject to change (for example, another owner told us that it took them less than 5 minutes at the border).
      Unrelated, please be sure to apply for the 'Alto Owners' Facebook group once you take possession (the group admins will request specific documentation in order to prove ownership) as it's a tremendous resources. In the meantime, I also suggest you proactively join the 'Altoistes' Facebook group (open to everyone). I have seen plenty of fledgling owners ask important questions during their maiden voyage home after taking delivery at the dealership.
      Please don't hesitate to ask us any other questions. Good luck on your pickup next week and be sure to subscribe to our channel to be notified of upcoming videos! Take care.
