    I am ashamed of ever thinking that bass was boring as a kid. What an amazingly diverse instrument. You're the shit, Damien.

    Very unique chord voicings. Rather spacious. I love chords that are happy and sad at the same time.

    Greetings, fellow 6-string fretless bassist. I love your approach to the soundscapes that you "paint" with your bass and your creativity. The bass and your technique are a wonderful combination. I presume this is a Fodera, yes. The Fodera Anthony Jackson bass that I have was originally a fretless before I owned it, since I had played it years before I got it while it was still at Rudy's Music in NYC. It had already been spoken for but was returned several years later and they sent it back to Fodera to have frets put on and the preamp updated with Pope electronics before I purchased it privately from the second owner. I loved it as a fretless even though it was a 36" scale but I still love it as a fretted bass. It really sang like the one you are playing. I now use an F Bass Alain Caron 6 which I have used consistently for 10 years. It is a great fretless. Thanks for the music! Looking forward to discovering more of your work. Cheers.

      From your new sub ;>) David I bought 1 1996 Conklin fretless seven string two years ago.And at first the tiny F string sounded weird .
      Kind of wimpy and dull.I changed strings to Tomastic Enfields using a solid string and it helped some.But I still fell in love with this
      amazing instrument .Now for what ever reason I am not unhappy with its sound.Perhaps my fingers are used to playing fretless now.
      Zero callus too ! Smooth as Preachers hands .A guitar now feels like a Mandolin now and I have to force myself to play one.
      I love hour after hour with the Conklin. Let me know please your thoughts.The finger board is purple heart.

      I would say it is ambient. Erik Satie's (many consider to be the father of Ambient) classical work Gymnopédies exemplifies this (repeated rhythm part with a dynamic melody), and is pretty much the blueprint for the genre

    I'm on the way of making a fretless bass, but I am not a player myself. Could you please clarify why do you have 3 controls when there is only 1 pickup? Are those - switch/tone/volume?

      Is it powered directly from jack, i.e., no switch?
      Also, since it's going to be the first one, I want to go easy with electronics and make a playable, decent bass with little controls. What is really necessary in terms of knobs?

    Hi Damian. Love your music. I’m wondering what mode you played this in. Do you know?:-) I’ve played guitar (fingerpicking) for about 10 years now, but pretty much only since a week that I realized there’s more I could explore than the major scale I used almost exclusively.. thank you
    Wishing you a good day,

    • @DamianCoccio
      @DamianCoccio  2 роки тому +1

      Hello, I never think of melodies in terms of modes and scales. I practice major scales, harmonic minor and melodic minor scales, and modes but I do not ever think of them consciously when I am writing or playing a melody. The only thing I think about is the melody itself in the same way a singer would think of the lyrics to a song. And I use the word “think”, loosely; honestly the process is not a conscious intellectual one. I hope that helps!

    What an innovative sound! Your bass tone is unreal Damian. I converted my Ibanez USA Custom 5 string into a fretless 20 years ago. • @DamianCoccio
      @DamianCoccio  6 років тому

      Ricky Moss thank you, this Tone mainly comes from the mahogany body, ebony FB with the Aguilar pickups. The bass was a custom-made Bass made by Fodera Guitars in New York City. While I do not own it any longer (I have sold it to fund other basses) it was a wonderful fretless bass and I may have a similar one built in the future.

You made my day with this one. Thank you very much. Just a technical question : witch preset you're using with your bass (eq, piezo pickup maybe?). Very inspiring player. Your playing has gotten me into the process of buying a fretless bass for me (not a bass player), but what do I get for under a grand that comes close to your sound?

      Thank you Coss, I am not that familiar with basses under 1K, but I would consider something in the Ibanez, Carvin or Peavy lines. The sound of the bass in this video has alot to do with the Aguilar DCB pickup, so if thats what you are looking for you could consider putting them in as well. Hope that helps, Regards, Damian

      You coax beautiful tones out of all the basses you play; what other pickups are you using?

    • @DamianCoccio
      @DamianCoccio  6 років тому

      Thank you. It really depends on the bass, some of my basses have Aguilars, some have Bartolinis, some have Fodera's Seymour Duncans.
