Some of the hardest working men working in dangerous conditions. Our dads did it hard. I have heard from old loggers how they would drag a short log on the ground behind them to help slow down as the grades were so steep and the truck brakes would fade. I was born in a transport family as well, and it makes me proud to see old photos like these.
mike, thx for this video. it bring back a lot of memories at me also. i started trucking 1989 and sice 1992 i was in heave haulage. what a great time ! merry christmas !!
Thanks Mike, for an insight into your families work in the logging industry. Also thanks to your brother for recording these scenes, and for allowing them to be shown worldwide. I'm surprised that Paccar don't appear to have used anything from Scammell and Foden who built trucks ideally suited for these conditions. Both brands just disappeared under Paccar's ownership. Anyway, a very Merry Christmas to you and Andrea and your Dad. From Mike in Lancashire 🇬🇧
Countless thanks Mike for this absolutely wonderful video! It took me back to seeing trucks and all in working, that some were even before I was born! What truly awesome trucks! My personal favorite, was the oldest and ruggedest one, which looked like the original Cummins engine biege. What a”tank of a workhorse!” Also, was that your Dad standing beside it in the picture? That to me would be super cool if it was! Again, countless thanks, take care, and as always, my best to you and all your family !
Awesome videos and pictures Mike... This was my life. So many great memories. For Peterbilt Mike, there sure were a lot of Kenworths in the videos and pictures LOL. My grandfather bought his first log truck in 1932. He started teaching me how to drive his truck in 1970 when I was 9 years old, and so it began... Not many 9 year old kids that know how to load a log trailer and shift a 5x4 . That self-loader at the beginning was really struggling. We never had any self-loaders. There's nothing better than getting up to the landing early in the morning when it's still dark out and there's no equipment running,, and standing outside the truck drinking a cup of coffee, enjoying the smells and the quiet... Helicopter logging is cool. We did a couple helicopter jobs. It's expensive, but you can access a lot of really good timber that would otherwise get left on the ground. Was the old Weyerhaeuser KW C500 your Dad's ? Back in the day you used to see their trucks everywhere, and lots of them. It's amazing how much that company has changed. Once the downsizing got started in the 80's, it didn't take long for most of the trucks and equipment to be sold off. It put a lot of people out of work in a short amount of time.
Merry Christmas to you and your family as well Mike and thank you for posting this video. Unusual to see spoke wheels on a Western style pole logging trailer at least in the lower 48, pretty cool stuff.
I’ve been in trucking my whole 60 year life as that was my family business. Starting driving at 15, drove myself to town to take my class one test the day after my 18th birthday and I’ve been in/around trucking my whole life. Sadly the days of logging are over thanks to the government gave away all the timber rights. Logging contractors don’t have any wood to cut. The government took the profit out of logging contractors closed up shop no point in logging now. All a memory now, what it used to be Timber dollars feeds my family is a slogan that’s not the case anymore. Merry Christmas to the Chamberlain family 🎉

Awsome merry xmas
"Roads" neither straight, smooth nor level. How frequently did people get it wrong? Not too often I hope. Wonderful stuff there Mike.
Thats why I am so passionate to make new trucks work right. Computers controlling lockers can kill people.

Why aren’t they using bigger fat trucks I would think they are more adapted to those road conditions
What bigger fat trucks are you referring to???
Back when they had logs for men
✌️👍👌🤜🤜💥💙
