The new one looks great and more easy to program, but I'm afraid it lacks some bit of identity.. Hi, Is it possible to pan the oscillators separately within a program / patch. ? Ie. Create a sound using 3 oscillators so that 1 can be panned centre (mono) with oscillator 2 & 3 panned hard R and L ? Creating a stereo image all within one patch / sound ? Thanks
no - they feed into the filter and that's not stereo. you can pan the timbres though and that's a mod destination, so with two timbres you might get close to that (and sacrifice polyphony)
@@loopop Thank you for your reply. Yes I was thinking that. So use timbers to create the stereo L & R hard pan. But could a further (Oscillator) or timber be added within the patch ser to mono, ? Centre pan. Or would the patch just be in stereo if used 2 timbers. ? Thanks 🙂
@@omni13music25 the core patch would only be in stereo if you panned the timbres. Many of the effects are in stereo though - even if you use just one timbre
I am DEFINITELY buying this when it comes out. I can't wait for it to be posted for pre-order or just to add to the wishlist, whatever they end up doing with that. I'm a huge fan of the original, but do not have the "S" version.
Dear Korg, please add distortion before and after the filter, with more programming options than a simple on off switch. Please also make an affordable knobby "Ms2000" type version
@@loopop Ah ok i thought i heard some distortion when you were flipping through the mod effects section, but i wasnt sure. Sad we would have to loose other mod effects to use it,but perhaps the filter drive options will be enough to work with for those times we want to put a phaser etc over an overdriven lead, ala oldschool 70s Fusion/Prog style leads
Seems a bit like it covers the same ground as the Hydrasynth, but maybe not as deep as far as features. And no poly aftertouch, which seems like a missed opportunity. Still if this is sub $500 it could do well :) The colorful screen certainly helps!
Price is fairly higher, but you have a lot more and it’s an amazing total package for those who want to keep it simple and small. Would be an amazing first synth for a kid or teenager. Considering how Korg messed up the new KingKorg Neo, I’m happy they didn’t do it for this gem. It would’ve been sad, as the MK is a legendary synth in its own class.
I hate to say it, but I'll probably buy this just because of the *Trophy Feature* Personally this may be the motivation I need to finally start learning about programming filters, oscillators and such, since most music stores don't offer lessons for Synthesizers. I've had a hard time teaching myself, the *Trophy feature* could be a very welcomed addition to any synth🙂
Wow I'm honestly shocked someone holds this opinion; I don't even really like it in gaming. The cool patches you build are reward enough IMO. The cool-but-challenging thing about programming synths is that there's no one set way to proceed through editing. Generally though, try starting an initialized patch by setting the oscillator section to something you like as your base tone, then use the 4 stages of the amp's Envelope Generator to shape the general way the sound reacts to playing (like a pluck, slow building bowed noise, slight-attack-delay for a brass instrument, etc.). From here you can set the filter cutoff/resonance, how the EG shapes it with key presses, how the LFO(s) change aspects of the sound over time, and any FX you have. Hopefully you stick through learning because it carries over between instruments and really opens up the possibilities of these machines!
You just proved my point (90% of what you said just went right over my head) people buying these beginner synths will most likely be satisfied with the presets, I love tweaking knobs and coming up with amazing sound designs but as an Idiot Savant I couldn't tell you to save my life what I just did to achieve that sound so my rewards for tweaking are fleeting, but having a trophy reward system may actually find a practical use in my tweaking endeavors and my personal reward would be fulfilled because i could actually tell you what I accomplished in design. Not to mention this may be a great tool for piano teachers who have students that want to learn synth, I wish this was available when I was a young music student. So I disagree this is again a much welcomed feature. btw as a proficient gamer I hate this feature on games too! lol @@vjspectron
But maybe if you struggle in learning something, cause you don't have the motivation and need trophies to even start doing it, maybe it means you just don't want to do it? There is nothing wrong with it though - just use the presets and have fun, it is a hobby after all, you don't have to force yourself into it. Btw you don't need actual lessons for it - all you have to do is to read the manual of your synth and you are good to go.
If they have some samples already in there and the loop/stutter recorder function, it would be nice if they expand a bit on that. Even having a super simple lo-fi chromatically playable sampler, based on 1 stretched sample (as those old casio “toys”) would make a difference added to what they already have in there. Otherwise just glitchy short loops is cool, but will fall short… (unless they are releasing another microsampler too)
2:48 - Are these microkorgXL keys? I am looking forward to your full review of the production model. The stuff that intrigues me the most are: the new sound engine - is it a derivative of XMT? or is it an NTS? or somehting else? (Seeing the NTS standard is still evolving would we see user based input in future OS updates?) And the hardware: is it based on RaspberryPi platform? Which would open up the future for aftermarket hacking - and who doesn't want to hack their own synthesizers to hear what hidden universe of electonic audio could be experienced. As a fan kingkorgOG and Radias/R3, the latest kkNeo and this microkorg2 leave me a bit indifferent at this stage - especially just after the official Korg release video. IMO for this synth the deciding factor will be the price, but seeing the latest issues from Korg i expect it to be $799 - which will put the product in similar rised eyebrow category as Kaoss Replay.
Does the Microkorg 2 also have such a quiet output like the Opsix? because I see in your video that you turned the volume control fully to the right. All the Rasperry Pi Synths from Korg has a low output gain compared to my old Radias and Oasys, they are much louder and have more punch.
Does this mean that you can distribute the three oscillators on the keyboard with the keyboard tracking function? For example, play oscillator one on the lower octave, oscillator 2 on the middle and oscillator three on the upper octave or keyboard
@@loopop thanks. You are one of the best because you take time to answer comments. I’m more interested in the Neo, though this does look like a winner for Korg. I love the gamification aspect to get people to try things other than presets.
Korg really put effort into this one. The features here is way beyond seven hundreds (just look at boring Neo KingKorg with watered down features of OG model). But here... color screen, improved UI, more voices, keyboard etc. Korg knows it's their big hit and they did a fine job to impress the crowds (maybe at NAMM or something like this). They can do good stuff when they feel the need to impress.
What about the keybed…? Velocity? Aftertouch? Input level still adjustable I’m assuming with menu diving? Assuming no speakers. Thanks for the great review!!
Yes velocity, no aftertouch, keybed is pretty nice for minikeys. No speakers. I actually couldn't find level control for the aux which is odd, but it's not the final firmware and I may have missed it. You can however route where in the signal chain aux gets fed, so it makes sense that level control should be easy
I like the fact that the Lfo‘s in the Microkorg 2 has a one shot mode, using it as a mini Envelope. How long are the delay Time? On Modwave’s Lfos has up to 22 seconds.

This is awesome. Would be nice if there was a software back end like in Microfreak and a step sequencer. Looking forward to the review. Thanks.
@1:20min I think I saw a "programable step lfo" based on the screen icons, can you confirm that ?
I hope it's not just a symbol for "random lfo"
Dig it, but where's the MS-2000 refresh 😢
@@loopop What are the Bass sounds like ? Would this be good for plucky type Bass ? Psytrance Bass, fast attack ect. ?
Thank you
@@omni13music25 yes i think so
How is the feel keys compared to the OG? I always found the OG kinda spongy feeling in its response. Being a little wider is great too!
Indeed less spongy and better IMHO
Its the much better keybed from the microkey series. Thank god!
The harmonizer options look AMAZING... The scale options/interval stuff is expensive in standalone pedals!
I love the look of the new MicroKORG, but also makes me appreciate just how amazing the OG is.
Excellent! Thank you, sir!
The added trophy system really solidifies this as a great beginner synth, as it always was and should be!!
And it hints that this is running on a raspberry Pi and will soon be available as VST/AU Plugin…
It also helps protect from incoming grenades and missiles from the crowd which is desperately needed at my performances
There's drive control in the filter and a few distortion effects in the MOD slot (I show both in the video, briefly of course...)
Is there no "big" reverb? ROOM isnt going to cut it @@loopop
Really interesting. i wonder how this compares with the hydranth explorer, because it seems like i can see some overlap in some of the approaches.
I'll discuss in the full review
@@loopop awesome, looking forward to it
Since it now has a built in looper, I'm really curious if it can then send and receive midi clock.
Can you recreate the intro loop melody on the microkorg S? I just can't have enough of it
I don't remember how I made it but you can probably get close
Yes. I will be getting this
Great demo as always and sounds/looks like a hit 👍🤘
Are the keys with spring mechanism?
Seems a bit like it covers the same ground as the Hydrasynth, but maybe not as deep as far as features. And no poly aftertouch, which seems like a missed opportunity. Still if this is sub $500 it could do well :) The colorful screen certainly helps!
Its not sub 500…
Sub 5 in this economy lmao. It'll probably be 700 easy.
@@vjfxtheory Ok I guess I'll stick to my Hydrasynth then :)
Whats the difference between this and King Korg NEO? Aren't they both virtual analog?
The same as the Korg Minilogue and the Prologue. Different Oscillators and filters(for a bigger sound) and a full sized keyboard
Beautiful! But I ain't going to let go my old MicroKorg. Ever.
Wow this looks really fun
I'd be obsessed with this in an MS2000R format i.e. more knobs!
I hope the next one out is a MS3000R ;-)
The release here in Germany is delayed again, from 3~5 Weeks at Thomann Store it jump up to 9-12 Weeks.
Where did you see or hear pricing - in this video or otherwise? Thank you! As I might wat to be a customer; but didn't see or hear a price. TY!
Finally a vocoder that doesn't sound like a toy or a gadget for techno apprentices.
Thank you. You may have just sold me on this.
Excellent review, thank you!
Thanks for the review! Questions: Can it be powered over USB-C? What connectors line output has, balanced or unbalanced?
No (at least not this prototype)
I hate to say it, but I'll probably buy this just because of the *Trophy Feature*
Personally this may be the motivation I need to finally start learning about programming filters, oscillators and such, since most music stores don't offer lessons for Synthesizers.
Gotta get the Platinum trophy. :D
Same here! Love the idea of trophies on a synth
If they have some samples already in there and the loop/stutter recorder function, it would be nice if they expand a bit on that.
Even having a super simple lo-fi chromatically playable sampler, based on 1 stretched sample (as those old casio “toys”) would make a difference added to what they already have in there. Otherwise just glitchy short loops is cool, but will fall short… (unless they are releasing another microsampler too)
Oh my. I had both the micro and xl. GAS!
I don't have access to an XL
It's not NTS, shares some similarities to the XMT but not the same thing
I don't know if it's based on RaspberryPi
Does the Microkorg 2 also have such a quiet output like the Opsix? because I see in your video that you turned the volume control fully to the right. All the Rasperry Pi Synths from Korg has a low output gain compared to my old Radias and Oasys, they are much louder and have more punch.
But FM,Ring and Sync are also possible with DWGS Waves and one shot Samples or only with Standard Waveforms?
Honestly this just looks like a lot of fun! 😋
Does this mean that you can distribute the three oscillators on the keyboard with the keyboard tracking function? For example, play oscillator one on the lower octave, oscillator 2 on the middle and oscillator three on the upper octave or keyboard
well I obviously need this, I use my OG MicroKorg all the time
Is it the same voice engine as the KingKorg Neo? It appears very similar.
No, it's different - see my NEO review for all the details, but generally speaking this has fewer oscillator options and fewer filter models than NEO
@@loopop thanks. You are one of the best because you take time to answer comments. I’m more interested in the Neo, though this does look like a winner for Korg. I love the gamification aspect to get people to try things other than presets.
Great upgrade! Even in prototype form it’s a very compelling package.
Actually seems like a pretty great upgrade all around.
This is a knockout, well done Korg!
Cant wait to platinum the Microkorg.
Me neither, PSNProfiles are gonna have to confirm the secret trophies. :D
Looks fantastic and great video as always thanks
so what sound engine is this based on?
I believe it's new, but as I show in the video, there are elements from the OG
Korg really put effort into this one. The features here is way beyond seven hundreds (just look at boring Neo KingKorg with watered down features of OG model). But here... color screen, improved UI, more voices, keyboard etc. Korg knows it's their big hit and they did a fine job to impress the crowds (maybe at NAMM or something like this). They can do good stuff when they feel the need to impress.
I have heard Korg has push back the release Date for the Microkorg 2 from june to august……
Finally, microKORG has a damper pedal input.
You can however route where in the signal chain aux gets fed, so it makes sense that level control should be easy
would ANYONE choose this over a modwave, wavestate or a opsix?
Yes
@@rorz999 why would you ?
I'll stick to my opsix, but some reasons might be battery power, a preference for subtractive synthesis, a better screen and vocal processing.
@@Goettel good reasons. I gig out with a hydrasynth explorer and a microkorg XL+ both ran off batteries. It’s a luxury you get used to
@mrryder1006 💯
btw< is there any reason of not adding endless knobs with smooth LED strip on a modern gear?
my guess is cost
I like the fact that the Lfo‘s in the Microkorg 2 has a one shot mode, using it as a mini Envelope. How long are the delay Time? On Modwave’s Lfos has up to 22 seconds.
I wish so hard the mk 2 had speakers just like the OG mk s 😢
So perfect for in the living room
The preset section is ridiculously huge. Literally like 1/3 of the faceplate! 😂
