I really loved Leviathan’s speech. It really resembles them being the most apex race, that’s why I absolutely love this DLC!

It also shows how big the universe is and the dangers lurk in the galaxy.
They're kind of cowards tbh hiding out here the entire time and yet knowing shit like the citadel was fake and was a trap etc. They could have figured out a way to communicate all of this to the rest of the intelligent species even if it meant sending one of them on a suicide mission and risking their species being found to be alive. IDK that you can just sit back and let the reapers just happen to the galaxy over and over and just not intervene to save your own massive psychic underwater skin.
The reapers still take their form even tho it's not practical for a weapon of war to be idk a walking squid with one laser on its face mouth area lmao - it's nearly impenatrable metal alloy is what keeps it alive, is it's defenses tbh thats prty much it or otherwise the reapers would just lose every time they came out of dark space.
So yeah. They aint so apex now are they. Hiding on the bottom of the ocean like a bitch aint very apex :D

When I played this DLC I couldn't stop thinking about how extremely lovecraftian it is. Something deep and unknowable, and far older then even the timeless machines that are the Reapers. Something that can subtly change the will of those it touches, from across space. Something that lurks far beneath the surface of the deepest, darkest ocean beyond the flitting black stars...

Of all the DLC's in the Mass Effect trilogy, this was my favorite. The conversation with Leviathan is so intriguing and adds so much to the universe and lore. Would have been so much better if it were part of the original game, would have added to the context of the ending

Do they not realize the whole point of the me1, me2 and me3 is about the stopping of the cycle of war that the catalyst main directive was base on?
Never understood how Javik and the Leviathan were not part of the original story. They are crucial pieces to understanding the history of the reapers and connects the story together.

I'll never not get goosebumps when i hear "why do you pursue me" and "the darkness must not be breached". I enjoyed the other dlcs and all but the trailer for this one set it appart from them
I adore the call of Cthulhu feel of this dlc. The mystery surrounding Leviathan and the solving of that mystery is really gripping and Leviathan its self is a really cool addition to Mass Effects lore.
They can beat the reapers one on one. The problem is that they would be overwhelmed by the number of them. Hence why they hide,etc
Not quite - that pulse would knock out hundreds or thousands of reapers at the same time if they kept sending wave after wave. They hide because they gain nothing from fighting as they don't die from natural causes or have lifespans that go on for millions of years so they played it on the safe side until they saw a cycle that they could jump in on the war with with the greatest chance of victory.
It's also some poor writing element that goes into it as well - the whole idea of the reapers getting slaughtered makes zero sense even if the intelligence got a lot of species on its side. They didn't have reapers yet and the lifeforms that would have against the Leviathan would have been completely outmatched. All Leviathan's could mind control and take over any enemy they faced which makes the whole idea they were slaughtered even more ridiculous.
@@Matt-wf7ry but it's not really explained how they were destroyed. The poor writing comes from simply redirecting Shepherd's question and ignoring what he asked. "How did they defeat you?" "Army of pawns blah blah no warning blah blah harvest. Let's move on." Unless they created reapers in secret. But if leviathans are still stronger than reapers... the ending to ME3 was a huge disappointment.
Damn, the writing and stories from this universe were outstanding. Wish more games were like this.
Playing through mass effect 1 there's a planet that you scan and mentions a space faring race that is much older than the Protheins. I think they should dive into the deeper races in the next installment. After all the cycle is broken and the universe will have a new threat to fill the void of the now extinct reapers
This is definitely my favourite DLC in ME3, Arrival being my favourite in ME2.
The moment Leviathan took out the reaper almost firing on the shuttle as it left the planet, should have got the Reapers worried, they not only had Shepard against them, they also had Levaithan and the first apex race behind him now.
That take out of the reaper was awesome.
I know the Leviathan speech almost down to a tee, I just cant get my voice as good as that though.

What scares me is what is there to stop the Leviathans to take their place as the apex race after the defeat of the reapers? They’ll probably take over the galaxy…
I think there's barely enough of them to stave off their extinction so they wouldn't have the numbers required to enforce their control. And even if they had those, I don't see anything inherently bad/evil in such attempt. Who knows, maybe with them at the helm the galaxy actually would have been a better place.
Oh give them a few years without needing to hide from the Reapers to rebuild their numbers? Yeah, they definitely will. They admit such in their own words. They are the apex race, they are the first, they deserve to rule as Gods. They even say the AI and Reapers arent mistakes, they are doing exactly what they made them for. The only mistake was that they didnt count on them turning against them. If they regain control they WILL remake the AI, because they are that conceited and sure they could address the mistakes of the first time.
@@GamerLoggos Such scenario is possible only if Shepard went ahead with destroying the Reapers. Even then the Leviathans would have to completely ignore the fact that a mere human was potentially able to end the war between the Quarians and Geth and create an alliance including both organics and synthetics. So, as far as logic is concerned, their next solution to any possible future conflicts would have to be "make more beings like Shepard", not "create super AI 2.0".

@@johnathonclayton6964 Interesting question, there are other factors that would have to be taken into account, like what Leviathans would have done after leaving their hideouts - would they perceive Shepard as a treat not dissimilar to the Reapers themselves? And if so, what would be their course of action to avoid another purge etc.
The entire conversation with Leviathan is amazing. But my favorite line is when it talks about the first harvest.
"From our essence the first Reaper was created, you call it... Harbinger" I get chills every time I hear that
And just like that the leviathans were still useless because we never saw them again lmao

@@Jebu911 Base on some non canon lore of the previous developer personels. It supposed to be expanded/explore more for the next trilogy. An aftermath of sorts after the war. But with the original personel gone from the studio the replacemeny team chew more than what they can handle and people got the andromeda instead.
@@Jebu911 well in canon they were able to brainwash the remaining collectors to fight back against reapers . Which is why there are absolutely no collectors seen alive after ME2 in the reaper armies. And why you can play as them in the multiplayer
@@willbaker6532 always felt there should have been a way to cut off the collector base from Cerberus without destroying it. Then use Javik to get them on your side. Having the leviathans have taken parts of the indoctrinated army left behind over the Billenia sounds awesome though

Well if we're going off the factor that andromeda admitted that there were more then just those of the milky-way galaxy to enter the andromeda galaxy id say it is possible however id also have to give my doubts if only because the levithans didn't have or need to leave the galaxy because nothing was a threat to them until they made their mistake by making the reapers and even then by their own words they even said by the time they realized what the A.I. did it was too late. It is an interesting thought though because of this fact if they were the apex in the milky way then there could exist those with that status,as for leaving the milky way with those levithans that started there tho nah- maybe back in the milky way but def not near andromeda
I always piece this DLC out in my playthrough. To the extent that I don't go to Desponia until RIGHT AFTER the Reapers take Thessia... Biowares mission structuring is incredible!
This whole side quest felt like the Call of Cuthulu in space

Me finding out that the Reaper ships were based off the anatomy of a Leviathan completely blew my mind, then learning that this was a DLC and not part of the main storyline. So much essential details to the plot is in this mission that answered how reapers existed in the first place. Only played ME series after Legendary Edition and while playing I wished that I played these series when it was first released a decade ago when I still I had my PS3
That thing is easily killed a Reaper, with a single thought. 😲🤔👍

the dialogue with leviathan is incredible
So mad 😠 when I couldn't take pics under the water. The scenery was so beautiful, I wanted to make it my new background with out the talcon mech's tech framing.
Looking back, I wish Bioware had more time with ME3 because I could see Leviathans being part of the base game and the story revolving around convincing them to join the war effort and beat the reapers in a more analogue fashion.
At least we are getting ME4, hopefully they dont repeat the same mistakes

The moment I discovered Leviathan, I had so many questions. These creatures were strong enough to create an A.I. They had followers and ways to expand their influence. I don't know which was more scary: The Repears destroying the galaxy, or the fact the Leviathan creatures can easily force anyone to bend to their will.
This DLC made the game more popular and interesting to learn how the Repears were made.
Need help? Do I have to do this and the Omega DLC during Act 1 or can I wait till act 2 if that makes any sense

kinda weird they were aware that AI will always rebel but in the end they created it and without any safeguard that it wont rebel against them.

One of the greatest DLC's of all time but it should have been apart of the main game to begin with. It also has a massive plot hole where the Leviathan race would have never been just "slaughtered" when the AI/intelligence didn't even have any reapers at it's disposal with the first harvest. The Leviathan had all the capabilities to dominate any war with the rest of the galaxy considering how extremely powerful they are and with the ability to control organic lifeforms it makes absolutely no sense.
A much more reasonable plot line would be the Leviathans had a massive galaxy spanning civil war that severely crippled their numbers and then the AI launched a war against them with virtually all the other species of the galaxy. Even that would be tough considering how easy they can mind control their enemies but at least it gives a far more realistic reason as to how such a powerful species could be knocked down to only a few.
This would have been a perfect plot thread to carry forward if they’d decided sooner to continue the franchise and not gone in the Andromeda direction. So with the reapers defected now the Leviathan are free to conquer the galaxy once more, and they’d be a very complex villain too! I guess they decided it was too similar to what was already done with the reapers and didn’t want to rehash old ideas? Maybe it could act as a B plot… Still would have been a neat idea if not totally original. Combine that with the after effects of curing the genophage, Krogan over running the Galaxy as another sub plot…. There was so much good stuff with potential there… oh well. Moving forward they would have had to factor out player choice a bit and make a few threads canon and throw others out, and some of ME 3’s long term consequences for some choices were pretty nuanced and in some cases frightening. I hear there is a more direct follow up in the works now, so we shall see what we get.🤷🏼♀️

It’s possible they could. I kinda want them to. But I imagine there’s not a lot of leviathans left so it would most likely be a sub plot if rumors are true and it’s going to be way more open world than before
A biological threat made sense after the organics vs machines storyline of the OG trilogy. However, the leviathans don’t seem dangerous IMO. More like a identical China. No interest in lesser species/civilisation but a passing interest/wants. Pay tribute and they’ll trade and interact in exchange. Shepard proves you can negotiate as well
@@chiefster11 Not really. They don’t seem to have an interest in war or conquest. Tribute and resources, sure. But it is not like you can’t negotiate. They even mention protection for there thralls. The leviathans in any sequel should only really rule either the Salarians or Krogan. Depending on choices for the genophage cure. That should also affect who’s on the council. Plus, a Quarian/Geth/Quarian-Geth(one vote) council member and humans. Maybe with some influence over the batarians as well but mostly uncaring to the lesser races unless tribute of some kind is offered first (whether that’s slaves, service or resources)
I wish they would have made a port to the switch I love this series the og trilogy still one of the greats. Next to kotor

That was obvious. I mean the Leviathans even said that the Reapers and the AI werent really mistakes, they were still doing their intended purpose. The mistake wassnt the AI or the Reapers, it was that they allowed it to defeat them. If the Reapers are gone the Leviathans still see themselves as the apex race and will act accordingly. They will try to reassert dominance. And likely recreate the AI still so full of themselves to think they can do better this time.

So from what I can tell this makes a good story it's a good DLC you do a lot of soul searching and a lot of you know undiscovering things however the only thing that this ever does and they were supposed to be a bigger role in the final battle meaning they were supposed to help us out during the final battle they never showed up during the final flight they weren't on Earth to help us out and they have absolutely nothing to do with almost the entire franchise the only thing meeting these people and finding out about things is actually giving you dialogue at the final battle before you make your decision whether what stupid color you want to choose I mean all we get they could have solve this with a freaking terminal lol you know Shepherd gets a book and you read a stupid book it could have solved it with that problem throw it up to it lit up to a really good idea that they were going to help fight us they were going to help us fight the Reapers they were going to do a good job and then what happens when the fight comes they're removed from the game except for a few dialogues kind of a waste and kind of a disappointment kind of makes you have to think that all of a sudden we wanted to just basically Fast Track Mass Effect legendaries and they didn't give a s*** which honestly I kind of like what you did with Mass Effect Andromeda I'm still waiting for the DLCs if you think Mass Effect 5 is going to be any better well you've had four games and every one of those games you have just done a fast ass cross your fingers and pray to God it works with a lot of screw ups and speed bumps I mean I'm sorry but round five it doesn't look so good for you I hope that God we get our DLCs for an Andromeda and I hope that God and I'm praying for every God in the universe that Mass Effect 5 is where you get your head out of your ass and actually make a good game

While I do love this DLC the reason behind the Reapers creation is still really stupid
They created a synthetic race to kill the organic races and prevent them from being killed by synthetics. I don't know how they prevent themselfs of going full Error 34 mode with that logic.
@@varric they didn't create the reapers. They created rhe catalyst which created rhe reapers.
They couldn't control synthetics with their indoctrination so would try to kill them. This led to wars where synthetics kept winning and killing organics co trolled by the leviathans.
They made an ai with the sole purpose of finding a solution to ending this cycle.
The ai concluded that the best course of action was to stop organics creating synthetics.
So it created an organic synthetic hybrid to do this.
They all see Shepard as something special, something new, an anomaly, but we never find out why. "Shepard is different... because reasons". Just some meaningless human who accidentally saves the galaxy a few times.
It's purely because he basically stopped the reapers plans multiple times so the reapers viewed him as a threat and the catalyst viewed him as someone to break the cycle

I find EDI's way of talking very annoying. It aimed too much on the way it sounds, sentences are vague; It's not a good choice for AI. Ann would be much better as an EDI personality.

ME3 is still a cluster F, why didn't they address basic things wrong. GX12 therm. pipes really a total diff. name, why have so many quests and absolutely no order of substance? Oldest quests listing does nothing to resolve as you would think Priority quests are a priority and you easily miss out on some things. Great game in many ways but such a fail in many ways !
