Just made this with one can of sardines, 2 egg yolks and some grated cheddar. Pan fried with butter on top to eat! Was really lovely thank you 🙏 you were right those cans had been loitering in my cupboard for a while!! 😂
I am 63 years old and have never eaten sardines. I dipped my toe in the water today. I bought boneless and skinless sardines for my first taste test and made this recipe. I really like this and will make it again. Maybe next time I will do one can with the skin and bones as I know those are better nutritionally.
Not gonna lie; I was nervous about sardines. I'm one of those rare Maritimers who isn't a fish person. But you said it's similar to tuna and I eat that, so I bucked up and bought a case of Brunswick sardines in water. That's a testament to my confidence in you, Anita! I made 'em, and I love 'em! I added minced dill pickle and a couple of packs of "True Lemon" (desiccated lemon juice and zest) to avocado mayo. Ate the second half for breakfast today. These digested so well for me. And I ate liberally, including a 1/4 cup of the tatar sauce. No gurglies, no bloating - nothing. I'm sold! Next time I make them, I'm going to roll them in more panko before air-frying. A bit more crunch would make these sinful. But really, they stand as-is. Thanks, Anita.
Mediterranean cuisine celebrates the humble sardine . 🐟🐟🐟They are a prized ingredient. In Spain tinned sardines in thick olive oil or tomato sauces are sold in tapas bars . Europe tins them with ppreserved vegetables & pickles. Heaven 😋 You recipes & delightful nature have inspired me. Thank you.❤
Greetings from America on this Memorial Day. Thanx 2 all the Veterans that gave us R freedoms we enjoy..Started packing my lunch these R a Gr8 grab & go.
I just made these. I didn’t like sardines until just now! Thank you! These open up such a nice change of taste & texture while eating carnivore. I love them!!
❤ I just made these and OMG, divine!! I needed this recipe in my life! Thank you so much! Now I can use sardines to heal,...just couldn't eat them plain😂
I just made these. I used a salmon rub seasoning, bacon mayo and made sour cream and dill dip. They were quite delish. I'll be making these regularly. MUCH cheaper than the beef.
I just made these with a can of sardines, and a pouch of salmon that I had lying around. I used some butter mayo I made for the first time a few minutes earlier. I also took the suggestion and made some tartar sauce using the butter mayo and pickles. They came out beautifully! I ended up with 8 balls, and I had to hold myself back from eating all of them. I left 3 for tomorrow. Thanks again for these simple, and healthy recipes.
I think I might try rolling them in additional pork rind panko for extra crispiness. I suppose a person could also add some grated parmesan for a different flavor, or really whatever flavors they like. Such a great idea for eating sardines 💡Thank you again!
First I want to congratulate you on you weight loss I am just starting and saw this recipe and thought I would try it and I just made it I did use bar b cue pork rinds and the sardines were seasoned with Louisiana hot sauce and they turned out amazing I like the little zing of the hot sauce I made tartar sauce and I will be making these again Thank you so much
Hahaha! I'm guilty of having one can of sardines in my cupboard that I just couldn't bring myself to even open! But this recipe has made me brave enough to want to try this! Thank you, Anita!
OMG THHISSSSS!!!!! I bought Walmart water packed whole sardines. Drained the water, added rice wine vinegar (or your choice) and left them sitting in the vinegar while I worked out. Drained the vinegar and tasted straight up plain-----ALLLLL of the fishy taste is GONE! It just tastes like tuna or salmon or any non fishy fish. No smell either. The smell, and taste, is caused by a chemical that is neutralized by acid. Lemon or lime would work too. I do really, really love it when a chemist occasionally takes an interest in food and shares their knowledge. I just added my homemade mayo. I CAN DO THE SARDINE CHALLENGE WITH NO SWEAT!
p.s. Thank you so much for the recipe. I watched it at 5am and ran to Walmart as soon as it opened. Looking forward to making this recipe on a day when I have a little more time. I appreciate your videos.
I absolutely love your recipes. I am not keto or carnivore, I am low very carb. Your ideas are simple, healthy and takes away the boredom. I would love to do this with salmon patties 😀

I love sardines and this sounds and looks delicious. After we use up the leftovers from our USA Thanksgiving I am going to make this recipe. Thank you. BTW: congratulations on your huge weight loss. You were beautiful before and you’re beautiful now. ❤
I discovered that sardines are actually pretty good! I had some last week for breakfast with just mustard! I've mixed a can of sardines with two cans of tuna to make salad, with mayo, mustard, and a bit of chopped red onion and some pickle relish. I'm going to make some salmon patties this week with a can of sardines mixed with a can of salmon!
I’ve avoided sardines because of the bones - I have an unnatural fear of choking on a fishbone. 😅 But today I found out from a Kelly Hogan video with Dr. Bozworth that you can buy them skinless and boneless!! Yay!! I’m going to try this recipe soon. And if I don’t like it, my dogs will be happy to eat it. 👍
I needed to come here to say that this recipe is miraculous!! It’s the perfect way to change up my strict carnivore diet, with something other than burgers and eggs! I use butter mayo, a little sour cream, canned salmon, sardines, tuna, just making sure ratios are about right. I flatten large ice cream scoops of the mixture into circles and cook at 400 for about 15 minutes, with a couple minutes under the broiler at the end. So, so good.
These are scrumptious! ❤ I made a 1/2 batch so just used a yolk instead of the whole egg. I also added a sprinkle of parm and used Italian zest as my spice. I did 10 bites still and they were crunchy perfection! Thank you so much for this recipe!
I like sardines but need a cracker to eat them on. However this might just be the solution to the cracker. And I heard a crunch. That makes it all worthwhile! 😂🤣😂🤣 Thank you for sharing your recipes with us. It helps so much.
Oh my gosh, what an awesome idea Anita! The only change I made was using 2 T Green Valley lactose free sour cream and 2 T chosen Mayo and they were crispy and delicious cooked for 13 minutes at 390! I usually have to choke down sardines and I could hardly keep from eating all of these!!THANK YOU dear!❤
Fishing with my grandpa, you got sardines, saltines and celery for breakfast when daylight broke. Love these memories. These little bites would have been a big hit with him. I had a couple cans of sardines I wasn't wild about, texture was mushy to me. They were a brand I don't buy anymore, but bought to try. They tasted wonderful here. Tartare sauce with pickles and capers.
I just made these over the weekend and I will be making them again. They tasted just like fish cakes, in a good way and it was nice to have something a little different from my usual beef, beef, beef. Thank you!
HOLY WOW! I used sour cream and butter to replace mayo, and only added black pepper for spice. Pan fried. It was very good. I can eat sardines now! THX!
I just made this with one can of sardines, an egg, pork rind crumbs, and sour cream. Man, it was tasty! I really enjoyed eating something that was outside of my usual fare. I usually just eat meat with salt or other seasoning. By the way, I would eat them out of the can as well. I am eager to try out the recipe on some Jack Mackerel tins I have had floating in my refrigerator for a while. Thank you so much for the effort you spend experimenting and for sharing these with us.
Thanks so much for your idea! This reminds me of the "salmon patties" my grandma and mom would make. It was part of what my grandparents called a "depression meal" because when they were kids their parents used a can of red or pink salmon, saltine crackers and eggs to stretch out the fish. Sardines, to me, taste like canned salmon and mackerel, which I grew up with. Now I can make an old favorite ketovore and enjoy it without guilt!
This looks like a great way to try sardines. I grew up eating sardines out of the can with no problems but this looks like an alternative when one gets tired of canned sardines. This will be a good way to get even more of my omega 3s into my diet. Thanks for the recipe.
I have 3 tins of sardines languishing in my cupboard, as I'm not really a fan of them, so this recipe looks IDEAL for me! Thank you so much, love your channel!
I am so excited to see a sardine recipe because after a severe case of anemia I know that I'm in need of much of the nutrients found in sardines but have been reticent to try them straight from the can, so a recipe like this is so great.
The old bay has a tendency to be salty but they looked delish! I usually sauté mine with onions and garlic with a dash of Italian seasoning and a splash of lemon juice. I have 2 cans to work with right now….think I’ll have them for breakfast tomorrow ❤thanks
Happy Friday Anita! Thank you for this recipe. I have no idea why i have been on the fence about eating sardines. I like tuna, sushi and all sorts of seafood. I'm "one of those" who told you I'm scared to eat them. But i think about all the crappy stuff I've eaten in my life, and these are good food! I appreciate you so much!
I have made these before and really liked them. Today I made them again and the batter was a little less thick so I put them in my Chaffee iron. It made 5 and they turned out great! Thanks Anita for another ay to eat sardines!
A sorta hack: I mixed up all the ingredients ahead of adding the sardines. THEN, I went to retrieve the 2 tins of sardines I thought existed in the pantry but there were NONE. Bummer. So I put 2 cans of tuna into the mixture, formed into patties instead of balls or bites. Cooked them in the air fryer and was surprised at how good they were. This morning I ate the cold one left over and it was super good despite being straight out of the refrigerator. Perfectly seasoned. I did add about 1/2 tsp of dried dill weed to the recommended seasonings, but that was because I love dill with tuna. Anyway, perhaps others will try what I describe. So very yummy. Thanks, Anita.
Oh my goodness! I never thought to make the pork panko in a food processor! I've been doing it the hard way, using a rolling pin. Using a food processor will simplify things! Thank you so much. I love fish cakes. I love your recipes and content, thank you so much!
Make a big batch and keep it in a tightly sealed container. Then you only need to make the mess once in awhile. I use the Costco tub, do the whole tub and it grinds up to about 1/4-1/3 of a tub. I always keep the last tub to put them in.
Great! I haven’t eaten sardines since i was a child but i keep meaning to do a real carnivore diet. I need an arsenal of recipes and this will be included. Thank you.
Just made these Anita! I added a drained can of cod livers and added about 3 T of Nili’s breading and fried in wagu beef tallow…. Omgosh, they are delicious!! Thank you so much.
I have missed watching you for a month, you have lost weight, congratulations. I will try this recipe, just like you said I have sardines in the cabinet! Thank you for the videos.
I love kipper snacks out of the tin, and anchovies in salad dressings, but I always give the sardines to my kitties! :) You do make me want to taste one of your crispy sardine balls tho....
I just did it! Yummy!! Thank you! I like sardines but eating all of them in a can it's just so boring. great way of eating them, thank you so much! I did not have the mayo, so I melted the same amount of butter, mixed it with the egg, a bit of mustard and a drop of vinegar first so the mayonnaise was done! Then I added the rest of the ingredients.
That looks sooo good!!! My favorite way to eat sardines is with a fork!!!😍😍 really, for sardine haters, try different brands/flavors!!! My go to is Chicken of the Sea Lemon/olive oil👍👍👍and I drink the juice after🤭🤭yesterday for lunch I had 3 deviled eggs topped with anchovies!! SUPER FOOD AND SUPER TASTY!!! Will try your sardine balls!!! Thank you, looove your videos!!!
Me too! I far and away prefer just opening the can and digging in! Agree with trying different brands. Also I keep mine in the fridge, I like them better nice and cold!
I tried sardines first time for me and used white vinegar mustard to marinate overnight than added herbs to taste and put on bun i was happy with my addition and able to say i can eat sardines wow for big ty for ur teaching
I never thought to use sardines as a fish cake. I grew up with cod cakes (my Canadian grandmother from New Brunswick made them into balls and deep fried them - so good!), and these look pretty amazing. No mayo for me, though, but I'll figure out something else to use. Thanks, Anita!
I just made these and I like them. Wish I had ingredients for ranch. I did add parm and hot sauce with some seasoning. I should have added onion powder. I pan fried them in tallow.
I *_LOVE_* THESE! stocked up on wild planet sardines on sale at costco, & have been eating 2 tins/day. this recipe is perfect! since im keto OMAD, i eat the whole recipe for dinner. macro-wise theyre spot on. outstanding.
I love sardines and I don't care who knows it and I like anchovies too! I wish people didn't feel the need to apologize for this.Oh and by the way I think your cute too!😉
Old bay is most likely where the salty taste is from. If too salty for you just cut back and you'll get the best of 2 worlds. When making four potato fries sprinkle the old bay on it for wonderful flavor with no added carbs
I was brought up with fried liver and a fried or poached egg on top. Was told it would prevent anaemia. I particularly enjoyed liver cooked with braised onions and finished with fresh lemon parsley, a classic Itallian dish, especially with either wine or heavy cream added to the pan with the liver. Offal is so expensive now, it used to be so cheap.
Thanks for helping me figure out how to use my sardines and kipper in a different and tasty way. I have them on hand for getting my omega 3s, but don't have an appetite for them all the time. I think the basic concept would be good with any leftover meats too.
I finally made these and they are good, you just have to love sardines a lot because they have a strong sardine flavor. I also added a touch of chicken flour from Carnivore Crisps) to omit some of the strong flavor. Didn’t work well but it was good. 12 minutes in the air fryer, like u did. Thanks for the recipe. Very good.
added minced onion...so good!

I’m not a fan of sardines, but knowing that they are good for you, I will have to try this!
Made them today. Added shredded cheese and little onion. Made 12 bites. Yum!
I have missed watching you for a month, you have lost weight, congratulations. I will try this recipe, just like you said I have sardines in the cabinet! Thank you for the videos.
You are so welcome!
I love kipper snacks out of the tin, and anchovies in salad dressings, but I always give the sardines to my kitties! :) You do make me want to taste one of your crispy sardine balls tho....
lol, those lucky kitties! I do think you should keep one for yourself!
Thank you, always looking for new recipes 💕
I love Old Bay on fried and seafoods
I just did it! Yummy!! Thank you! I like sardines but eating all of them in a can it's just so boring. great way of eating them, thank you so much! I did not have the mayo, so I melted the same amount of butter, mixed it with the egg, a bit of mustard and a drop of vinegar first so the mayonnaise was done! Then I added the rest of the ingredients.
Glad you liked it!!
Very tasty! I'll be making this on the regular. Thank you for the recipe, Anita.
I tried sardines first time for me and used white vinegar mustard to marinate overnight than added herbs to taste and put on bun i was happy with my addition and able to say i can eat sardines wow for big ty for ur teaching
That is so wonderful, I think they are an underrated superfood!
@@KetogenicWoman i purchased old bay seasoning and used it too and it helped me not dreading taste or smell i must be adjusting ty again
I never thought to use sardines as a fish cake. I grew up with cod cakes (my Canadian grandmother from New Brunswick made them into balls and deep fried them - so good!), and these look pretty amazing. No mayo for me, though, but I'll figure out something else to use. Thanks, Anita!
Cod cakes are so amazing!
I just made these and I like them. Wish I had ingredients for ranch. I did add parm and hot sauce with some seasoning. I should have added onion powder. I pan fried them in tallow.
Just made patties with oat flakes. Way better than expected. As good as salmon, only much cheaper.
I wish people didn't feel the need to apologize for this.Oh and by the way I think your cute too!😉
Going to make this tonight! Last time I used canned salmon for similar recipe. Psychic how you knew I was hoarding a fair number of canned sardines!
haha, I think there are pantries across the country with hordes of sardines in the back!
Old bay is most likely where the salty taste is from. If too salty for you just cut back and you'll get the best of 2 worlds. When making four potato fries sprinkle the old bay on it for wonderful flavor with no added carbs
You had me at Old Bay!!😊
Plan on trying tomorrow hopefully I can do it... Tons of the pantry shelf.
Awesome! Looks great, Anita. I also eat them straight from the can and am also one of those weirdos who craves liver and onions from time to time.
Well you are in good company then because I crave liver and onions too!
I just love your videos. I have learned so much from watching your videos.
Glad you like them!
just made them! thank you. taste great
Thanks for helping me figure out how to use my sardines and kipper in a different and tasty way. I have them on hand for getting my omega 3s, but don't have an appetite for them all the time. I think the basic concept would be good with any leftover meats too.
Yes, true !
I made sardines bites today. I likeded them and will try hard to continue having everyday. Thank you for all your videos!
I am from Oklahoma City.
Glad you like them!
Excellent content. I've been hesitant to try sardines.
I ❤ sardines. I'll try this recipe. Usually i stew them up.
I cannot wait to try this. It looks really good and I am trying to get some sardines into my meal plans.
Trying this one tmmrw!! Thanks again excited
I love fishcakes but never thought to make them with sardines. I'm going to give it a go!
Very good recipe! It is helping me to acquire a taste for sardines. Thank you! 🐟😋
Okay! Feeling motivated to try these! Thx!
Very good.
These look great and I have everything in my cupboard to make them.
