  • Full recipe in the description! Crumpets without rings! These crumpets are much better than shop bought I have to say. Watch that butter melt in to those holes. Irresistible! No messing about with rings or any of that nonsense here.
Just cook them in a frying pan and then cut them into quarters. OK, they're not strictly crumpets I suppose, more a pikelet, but I won't tell anyone if you don't and they're much tastier than the rubbery discs of misery that you buy in the supermarket. Or any other shop that sells 'em. I'm not discriminating against supermarkets.
This recipe is easy but you have to be brave when you flip them. Just go for it. It'll be alright I promise. Just don't refer to women as crumpet. We're past all that carry on aren't we?
    Full recipe:
    425g all purpose flour
    2 sachets (14g) dried yeast
    1.5 teaspoons of salt
    1 teaspoon of sugar (optional)
    300ml of lukewarm water
    275ml of lukewarm milk
Fry in a pre-heated dry, non-stick pan on a medium heat for 4-6 minutes on the first side and 2 minutes once you've flipped them. Then toast for a million years and enjoy your favourite topping on them. I like butter, me, 'cos I'm a simple chap.
You can also use this recipe to make crumpets or pikelets with toppings. Here's the vid:

Thanks for popping in and letting me know that they worked out for you. Really appreciate it. You sound like a real crumpet enthusiast just like myself. I did obsess over this recipe for a long time until it was perfect so I'm chuffed to bits that it's working for people. It's almost difficult to believe how much better homemade crumpets are when compared to shop bought. Thanks again!

A crumpet made without a ring is a pikelet which is what my family called a crumpet until we realised there was a difference. Therefore what you have made in the north of England is called a pikelet. Nevertheless you have made an excellent pikelet ( in Australia and New Zealand a pikelet is a drop scone but that is one of the differences between English and Antipodean English)

No they didn't turn out great but that was my problem. The mixture was thicker because of the glutenfree flour so I added more water, big mistake. Next time will follow the recipe 💯. Will try again. Thanks anyway.

I personally wouldn't do that. I don't like to expose hot food directly to foil. Plus, the mix would stick like crazy. Non stick molds are the only thing worth using if you want to go that way. Hope that helps.

If you'd used crumpet rings you could have done a nice double entendre about buttering up your ring. Instead of toasting your pikelet, why not just turn up the heat on your pan to finish off the browning - saves a step.
