Want to find if your stuff works? Give the "attacker" a black felt pen and you wear an old white t-shirt. You will soon see what works and what doesnt. 🙂
Finally somebody talks about this in a comprehesive manner. Years ago my trainer said we should expect to be slashed , but told us he can only show us how to avoid getting killed long enough to gtfo or to break something on the attacker's head.
Nice work Brother, I deflect and redirect is the best. Its a wing chun move that is effective. Except, one has to do training over and over, until it sticks in the subconscious, and become nature and no thinking, just all flow with intuition. Pilipino knife defense is to turn the inside of hand faces in away for any chance to cut the main hand artery, like you did, it is the good part of surviving a cut to the wrist. All is good except practicing these situation with a partner,. This is great to do with paint ball guns to simulate a real life situation. You need personal protection for that one. There was video channel who did this, something I like to work with. Thank you Kevin for watching out for the vulnerable like women and children, even grown men.
Outstanding! You gotta keep it real. Life and death situations are just that. You do NOT want to be deluding yourself. This is an excellent video and needs to be shared. However Your classes are booked up, fair enough. Say that faster, and plug your competitors, those you respect. Truly dispel the misinformation, as best you can. For that, many voices are needed. No one sees the threat, until its out of the bushes, right ontop of you.
First, except that you still MIGHT get cut. Unfortunately, I was in a lot of knife fights growing up where I did. The best ones ended with me blocking the attacking arm and breaking his elbow. A lot of times I would just do a block like you showed and pop a kick into his knee. That worked out well. Excellent video. Bro. In a way you remind me of me when I was younger because you're straight to the point with no bullsh*t and you cut out all the garbage that's useless.
@@logician3641 I've raked eyes before. Very effective if done properly. In the example where I broke the idiot's elbow, I stepped off center, caught his attacking knife arm in my right hand and extended it while I came under his elbow with my left arm from underneath using my body weight behind it as I pushed through his elbow joint, which at that moment made him double jointed. He wasn't before that moment. He screamed the worst scream that I have ever heard to this day. I would say that scream haunts me, but since he was trying to car jack me and kill me, he got what he deserved. He was going for my throat, and I still was nicked on my chin. I still have the scar.
@@logician3641 I literally grew up on the streets in and around Newark. Everyone in my old neighborhood knew how to fight. Then I started some formal training. At that point in my life, I had some training Kung -Fu, Wrestling, and TKD. I kept techniques on the street simple and used gross muscle movements rather than refined complex movements which are hard to use when adrenaline is flowing. My kicks were kept low. I only kicked someone in the head once, and that time I had kicked him low first which made him bend over. When I went into the Military I would learn other arts. I went to Ranger School in the 80s. while in the military I would train in Krav Maga, Judo, and Shotokan. When I got out, I dabbled in Kenpo and got back into TKD briefly. Do to my disability it was not feasible to keep up with it.
At the 0:33 second mark when you say "ooh look at this knife stabbing me in the face" - NO WAY, you have TWO arms against his one. If he overpowers you with just his one hand and forearm against BOTH of your arms, then you would have to be a totally feeble weakling. Because while you're pushing his knife hand away from you and backwards, taking him off balance BECAUSE he's now falling backwards, you now have total control of his forearm and knife hand. So with that control and leverage along with speed/violence of action, you could take him right down with momentum, and you now have the Americana grip. Once on the ground while applying that Americana with leverage and great force from all that adrenaline, you're going to torque his elbow and shoulder, causing him much pain. He's going to have some severe 'tennis elbow' along with strained shoulder tendons for several days.
Not true at all as the attacker has momentum and initiative. Knife fights aren't duels or mutual combat like MMA. Most knife attacks are surprise attacks, you won't be in the perfect stance or have the time for setup. Very easy for an attacker to power through a rushed block, and that's why it happens all the time as seen in security footage, LEO incident/witness reports, and medical exams post-attack.
I get what you're saying, getting that grip is going to be almost impossible. But I'm talking about when he DID have the grip, he says "ooh look at this knife stabbing me in the face" he has TWO on one. So his two grips will over power the attacker's ONE hand grip. That's simple math, 2 against one will win. But I agree, getting there would be next to impossible when the attacker's intent is to kill and his violence and speed of action would be overwelming.
I trained in FMA as well, along with muay thai and still, I do believe that creating space between me and the attacker with knife is best. I'd rather practice getting away, running very, very far away.
Most knife attacks you don’t even see them coming. Most are random or disguised rather than an escalated fight. Knife attacks are brutal to watch and you should always carry a knife yourself.

Nice!
I have heard that permanent red felt markers are more efficient.
One of the best knife defense videos out there! Very good advice! No macho bs.

There is only one good knife defense, and it's called hit once then run. Disarming tactics on a knife wielder is a laughable joke that never works.
You are awesome! I am grateful and stoked to have happened upon your insightful instruction. Thank you brother.
We just slow 'em down with maple syrup grenades...

What about a block then a thumb inside the eye?? Also, how do you break an elbow.

On downward icepick grip stabbing , the direction is directly to the chest on short distance travel not the over lopping stabbing
marvelous Kevin
Running is always the best option, but if you can't try to disarm by striking arm with knife to break it.
Fantastic Video 👏👏👏
Why I train Derobio FMA
If you try this with a marker and a resisting partner you will see very fast if it works. Of course, use safety precautions, like safety goggles
Thank you for this man. Reality check with a knife. Solid concepts.
It was great 2 break this down as of previous appreciate should vid but not able 2 take in as of this vid as longer & broken down.

The best defense against a knife attacks are:
- a gun
- 2 knifes
- a lawyer after running away
Learn how to use knif and Sword first after that you Can building an effective attack is deffence never forget throwing knif is a Bullet . Thanks for
In my opinion, the best lesson to learn self defense is learning a reality combat scenario.
