I've built tons of small tools using dc motors, PVC pipes, and other stuff (like buttons, small chucks and other connectors). All I used to do was to sand it a bit with a high grit sandpaper and then spray painted them. And they look great.
BTW, make one with a much smaller piece of pipe to hold pencils!

PVC is always white, ABS is black. spray paint the PVC to any color you want
I've painted it in the past. Managed to make it look just a little wood-like. But that's more work than I wanted to do this time around.
id advise cutting a small circular notch where the two fences meet at the corner, it stops dust collecting there and throwing a workpiece out slightly, enjoy the new quiet spindle, i had a router on my old cnc and my new spindle on the new machine is night and day better.
That's a good tip! I've been meaning to do that for years... probably should finally make it happen with a clean slate like this.
