I am right there with you Harris on it being subjective. Both are nice strips. To me, you get the one that suits your preference. I am not buying a $100 bottle of wine since wine is not important to me. Others would spend that without thinking twice. I say get what works for the wallet and the preferences. Thanks for watching.
I have 4 govee lightstrips, and i love them! Also i do have 2 Philips Hue lightstrips, and although they're way more expensive, it's true that with the range of whites, govee cannot match it.
As long as you are using Apples HomeKit and have a thread border router, Nanoleaf are the best choice for white out of the two. I have switched over my TV strips and lamps in my living room to Nanoleaf. This weekends video is looking at putting them on a TV.
Just picked up the Lifx for my studio desk. It's a nice little splurge to keep me going through this year, I have one of their bulbs and love it so I figure the strip will be just as good. I think I'll pick up a Govee later on, too for the headboard on my bed.
Thank you 🙏 My favorites lights for white light are the nanoleaf essential bulbs and strips. They used to only work with Apple and HomeKit. The new Matter version that I have linked works with all the assistants. Just confirm you have a supported smart speaker. amzn.to/3MxKRTP I did do a video a while back on them. ua-cam.com/video/YsN4GDLNQEQ/v-deo.html Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
I have a pretty big room so I wasn’t trying to spend $300. So the amount I woulda have spent on one LIFX kit I was able to get two 16ft strips and a 32ft strip to hook up to my Echo dot and I am not disappointed in the slightest!
@Nvmb._.editss Better software and colors, if you want the best you gotta pay more but that's only if you truly care about having the best and nothing more than mediocre
Trust me, if you can afford it go with lifx. Any budget led strips will start to break after 2 or so years. The only reason the lifx price is semi-justified is the longer life and quality.
I have both LIFX and Govee strips and I prefer the Govee strips. Here's why: The DIY feature in the Govee app definitely gives a creative person more options for effects. I agree that the LIFX is brighter because there are more LEDs per strip. The app for Govee is SO much better. I use both of these strips and Bluetooth is so much quicker and so much more reliable than the network-only option with the LIFX strips. The LIFX app just doesn't connect to my network very quickly. I bought the LIFX strips for my kids' bedrooms and added Govee strips to complete the room. I use Govee strips in my classroom at (school) work. Kids love being able to pick between the many, many DIY themes I've created. The LIFX app just doesn't make it easy to create and keep custom schemes. The Govee app is super simple.
Hi Craig, at 6:11 of the video, it looks as though you can turn off certain sections/zones of the light strip? Would that work well if I want to run a light strip along a wall which has a door frame (which I don’t want to illuminate). Eg if I want the first 3rd of the strip illumated/on, then the second 3rd of the strip turned off, then the last 3rd of the strip illuminated/on?
Hello. I was amazed by the themes of the Lifx strip shown at 4:55. I want to buy those strips from the EU website. Currently they sell the 1m strip for 70 and the 1m extension for 30. If I order this 2m bundle, will I be able to use the themes in the app? The beautiful color cycling and stuff? Or do I need to buy some additional things for it to work?
I would agree with you but for most people they don't need the lights to be at 100 percent brightness. Lifx brigtness and saturation is overkill for most uses. Govee is good enough in saturation and brightness. What stands out about the lifx is the app; it is definitely better then the Govee.
I know this is old but I have a lifx bulb and that app was the worst thing imaginable. It's not even just the layout of the settings but I couldn't get the bulb to connect to anything for weeks. The app also didn't connect to Google home assistant so I had to use a 3rd party app for a while until it could connect. At least it eventually worked and I'm happy with it (mostly because I only use voice commands instead of the app)
Any comparison on longevity? The govee 32 foot worked great as a dome light replacement on my van and was great with the split in the middle going back equally, but it stopped working after 10 months. Is there any way to Y the LifX or make them symmetrical from a point?
I invested in LIFX for my home office after seeing your earlier reviews. The 4 sets of bulbs I purchased have worked flawlessly. I installed 2 sets of Z strips one for a Karlby desktop and the other on a monitor. Both sets developed a fault after a couple weeks. Basically if I set a colour, a small section of the strip would display the wrong colour. For example, when the entire strip is green, one portion displays red. According to the LIFX forums, this is a known issue. So, I returned both sets for refund and purchased a replacement set. Just have the one running now on the desktop. Working OK at the moment but will have to see how it holds up. Not great considering they are meant to be a superior product.
curious to know what happened there? i bought the govee lights prior to doing research like an idiot. wondering if i should return them for a better product?
I have lifx but im prbly gonna get some Gove lights. The lifx app has been so glitchy the past few months that its almost a deal breaker at this point. Plus I would like more music options
i did buy the 32.8ft Govee light strips which are nothing but 2 roles of 16.4ft however i was able to cut one off and connect it to the other using a connector which is sold separately to make one long 32.8ft strip going in one direction which worked out just fine.
@Craig's Tech, I have asked you a similar question on a different video you made, you must not have seen my question. I am looking for backlighting for my LG OLED C1 55 inch TV. So I need a sync box ect. If I bought the LIFX strips and stuck them to the TV would I be able to use these with the Lytmi Neo HDMI 2.0 sync box using there App, I hope this isn't a silly question but I know very little about LEDs and watching your videos yes the LIFx are by far a superior product than the LEDs that come with all the other products I have seen here on UA-cam. I live in Ireland so I would have to order online anyway, the only thing you can buy here is the Hue system. Man it's the most expensive system and from what I've seen it looks like the worse system for backlighting a TV using a sync box. Great content your putting out there. Thank you for all the information
No I did not. I am having a problem with the fact they don’t include any warm white or cool white LEDs in there strips. Dedicated white LEDs and HomeKit or Matter support is a must have in an LED for me now. I have turned down sponsorships with them for those two reasons. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this video. I am curious if your comparison of the brightness is done using equal lengthed strips, for example at 7:50 are both the Govee and Lifx strip the same length? It is my understanding that the longer the strip the power is spread out to more bulbs and hence less brightness, wondering how much that plays into the results reflected in the video. If the Lifx strip is only one meter and the Govee strip is 5, it could be noticeably less bright.
Hello, I had 2 meters of LiFX. there is no way, short of buying 5 meters of Lifx for $200 plus dollars for me to check that. I have not heard that the Lifx suffer from dimming over longer lengths. They are rated for a certain amount over the power supply. On my desk I have 3 meters of Lifx and the look as bright as the 2 meters I used for the demo. With my professional LED experience, you still get what you are paying for. Better and brighter LEDs cost more. I have seen the compromise in what is listed as like wattage LED bulbs. But it is something worth looking deeper into. Thanks for watching.
@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks for your reply, and again for the video. I think you are right about how they are rated, etc., somehow the transformers know how much to dish out over the available length of wire. I did not mean to doubt the testing process, LiFX is clearly the better quality product, you can delete my comment if you wish, I think your video makes it clear. It could be part of the reason they are manufactured in shorter sections, using better quality wire and LEDS. Perhaps a slower manufacturing process. Today I ordered the Govee rgbic to mess around with in a 10x15 sunroom. If these RGBIC LEDS really are mesmerizing I'll upgrade to LiFX and stick the Govee behind a mirror or some other less traveled/viewed place in my humble abode.
Hello L Dlink, I appreciate your comment. I think that is a great thing to think about and to mention. As someone that works with power with the industry I am in, there is voltage drop over a distance. How it affects LED strips is something I don’t know about. Your comment may make someone loom deeper into a comparison if they are going to do a long run of LEDs. I definitely think the power drop over large amounts of LEDs plays a part with the Govee strips. To me that is proven by them putting the power supply in the middle of the 32’ kit they sell. I think it is great to try out the Govee strips. If they don’t give you what you want, like you said you can go with LifX and move the Govee else. Thank you for the nice comment and food for thought. Have a great night.
@@CraigsTechTalk I totally agree, and you are right about the power supply in the middle, that's why I would opt for two 16 footers over the 32. For me it is not a matter of Govee not giving me what I want, it is more proving that yes, I need color changing lights in my life. Kind of like someone who doesn't own a car or who has never driven one, and has been getting along fine without it, but decides maybe it could be nice, and even if money was not an issue, the person is practical and they'd might jump into the water with a Chevy Spark as opposed to a Tesla S. So, I'm ready for this life changing experience-ha. I've been cranking through your video's while trying to get some work done...good channel, you are now one subscriber closer to 100k--keep em coming!
Hi Craig, You seem to really know a lot about RGB LED lighting strips. I was looking for the best rgbic lighting strips for my electric scooter that's USB. I would appreciate any suggestions that you may have. Also if you know of a USB battery Bank to go with the lights I'd appreciate it. Thanks for everything you do
I upgraded to the LIFX strips and I find it to be better in every category. It’s because I’m obsessed with color changing lights. That being said, the Govee Bluetooth bulbs are amazing. I don’t have a regular bulb in my house anymore. Good luck turning a light on without my phone being around. Lmao
I've spend more than $500 on LIFX lights, including bulbs and strips. I dont regret it. I love love love the accuracy and brightness of the lights. Of course its about preferences and budget but I've bought other brands like phillips hue, govee and other brands but brightness and color accuracy are not that good. I prefer to pay the premium price but be satisfied with the product.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I am with you about the accuracy and brightness. I haven't found anything better yet. The only thing really close is the Hue gradient. That cost a fortune. Thanks for watching.
Just saw that for 4 more bucks you can get a version that works with alexa for the govee. which i will be doing. How have you been man? Doing good through things and satying well?
Hi Craig, thanks for all of the great content! I already bought the dreamcolor lights for my daughters room. (we are building a house so its a surprise for her) You said you used a Y splitter for your daughters lights, does the kit come with the splitter? If not could you point me in the correct direction to pick one up?
Love the “this is my video” part lol. But, honestly I don’t understand why these these light strips have such a huge price difference… We all know know they were made in China for $1.00 at the most. It’s really sad that they take advantage of us. I’m a musician and I’ve have people doing sound and lighting expect insane amounts of money and we would play in candle light. But, I’ve also met insanely amazing sound and lighting people that I still talk to after years because they would watch the our sound check and link the lights up perfect when we played. Amazing guys. I don’t understand why people charge so much for the same products though. Really kinda gets on my nerves since they don’t work for it at all. Great video though! Just subscribed. Looking forward to some future content!
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed the video. After 25+ years of entertainment lighting, I understand what you are saying about lighting and especially lighting guys. As for the LEDs, from someone who uses professional LEDs, good LEDs cost money. Everyone thinks LIFX is the bad guy charging so much. What people aren’t seeing is the garbage LEDs used. No matter what the cost is to make the lights, they are in no way the same product. It is obvious when the color comes out. You get 25% of the intensity with your 25% of the cost lights. Only one company has matched the quality LEDs of LIFX as a budget company. That would be Wyze color bulb. LIFX had destroyed everything except these bulbs. I am all for calling a company out. I say don’t let a flood of cheap low quality products make the good products look bad. Thanks for watching and subscribing. I appreciate you sticking around to see more.
Always will choose govee, way better lighting effects, better white balance and lifx's app connection is so bad, i couldnt even get my lifx beam to connect after hours (yes i did everything right), went and returned them and got a govee glide, connected to the app in seconds.
Do any of these strips pass the hidden flicker test? Basically, if you point your iPhone at it, and change to camera, video, slow motion, and then you can see how much flicker you get on these compared to others.
I just ordered my first Govee dreamcolor set. The cheaper brands just don't last and the color brightness is not good enough to add color ambience that looks attractive.
Hi Craig - I love your videos. Watch them all the time. Hey - I wondered if you might have a minute to help me. I need some advice. My 12 year old son got into these LED Strips, which is great. And, he's talked his older sister (15yo) into putting them in her room. He likes to install them himself. Here's the problem. Both in his room and in my daughters room - the way my son installs them -- he ends up with this ugly looking large white box on the same level with the strips (e.g.,. near the ceiling). It looks so ugly. That can't be right, can it? I wouldn't think so, but he takes pride in being the 'installer', he doesn't let me near his stuff. But if I could help make it look nicer, I would. He'd like that. I have pics I could send you if you're not sure what I mean. But, how can we install these strips without the white box dangling on the ceiling. That can't be right.... is it?
Great video, Craig. Can you make a video of LIFX bulbs measuring the CRI(Ra and Re) throughout the white color temperatures? I find this an interesting subject and no one talks about it
Thank you Rodrigo. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I appreciate your suggestion, unfortunately that would not get any views on the channel. That would most likely be why you won't find many channels talking about that. The channels that do want to talk about it do so because it interest them and they are probably not concerned about views on their videos. Thanks for watching.
Hi Craig, great video! I’ve actually been wondering if I should get lifx or govee for a few days now but I think I have my answer! Thank you so much. I also really wanted to get the lifx beam that you reviewed about a year ago. Unfortunately, they are sold out everywhere and haven’t seen them around. I also heard some negative things about the beam. I think the lifx led strips would be a better decision anyway! Hope you have a great day.
How did that work out. Lifx isn’t worth the extra money imo … you can get much longer strips now on govee , not only that but he didn’t go in to power consumption.
I have both strips, I’ve had lifx bulbs for years but last year decided to try a led strip…. The lifx kept losing the wifi connection and it was quite close. Govee it’s true is not as bright but it gets my vote over lifx
1 meter for 80bucks compared to 3 meters for 20 bucks , definitely i would go for govee in case the item is defective i won't regret it later, but can't say more your review is top notch and this playlist over all helped me so much ,thanks a lot and did subscribe keep it up !
Great video a classic horses for courses advice, you explain both products pros & cons and in the end it’s a value for what you want decision, thanks for the comparison, if I want to make quality UA-cam clips I go the pro range if I want a fun easy to use lighting system I go govee like all your clips good info good advice thanks for sharing love your work. Has your daughter ever asked why she doesn’t have liffx in her room? 😀
So you are spot on. Lifx is definitely the more premium light strip and a person could connect the modules needed to do what the govee strip does with music but the govee is where most people (especially in this economy) fall in terms of price. Ibwould l9ve to be able to out fit my apartment in lifx but that would cost thousands of dollars at lifx's price point. Lifx seems to have more leds per meter which results in more saturation. But govee give you much more length which is also important for coverage and im in more need of coverage which does give good saturation that say a few meters of brilliant but very localized light coverage. I'm not against companies making money at all but I am against being taken advantage of. Led lighting is very common place in our world and very cheap to make at high quality comparatively to past quality and price points. 70$ that cost maybe 10 to manufacture where the leds aren't even the most expensive part is ridiculous. Look at cree leds, some of the brightest in the world and very cost effective. There is a reason why Walmart is the biggest corp. People look at price first. Is it worth what I'm getting and even if inhad the money it would hurt me to think I spent thousands of dollars on tech that cost literally pennies to make. Come on. It's a led for gods sake not a smart phone. It shouldn't cost as much as one to light your house.
For most people I don’t think they’ll notice the difference in color. The fact the strips do color is usually enough. Especially for the price difference.
Govee because behind your desk it has nice whites and its budget friends and with the led strips it comes with 2 things if the lights so u could have both led srips going under your bed then one behind your desk lifex is very pricey for very little of the strip

might find it invasive bc he has a family but this is a cool idea to have!
Just picked up the Lifx for my studio desk. It's a nice little splurge to keep me going through this year, I have one of their bulbs and love it so I figure the strip will be just as good. I think I'll pick up a Govee later on, too for the headboard on my bed.
Govee is affordable and quality! I use em on my car, apartment, and longboard and they work great!
I have 4 sets of govee and love them. For the money you can’t go wrong
Hi Craig! Thx for your great videos… what strip would you use above a kitchen cabinets? Best Cool white possibile thx…
Thank you 🙏 My favorites lights for white light are the nanoleaf essential bulbs and strips. They used to only work with Apple and HomeKit. The new Matter version that I have linked works with all the assistants. Just confirm you have a supported smart speaker. amzn.to/3MxKRTP
I did do a video a while back on them. ua-cam.com/video/YsN4GDLNQEQ/v-deo.html Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
i have been subscribed to you for ages but this is the first proper vid im watching
is the lifx waterproof? can I put it in the balcony?
I have a pretty big room so I wasn’t trying to spend $300. So the amount I woulda have spent on one LIFX kit I was able to get two 16ft strips and a 32ft strip to hook up to my Echo dot and I am not disappointed in the slightest!
My govee strips are amazing! I really haven’t realized what im missing, but i gotta say im considering these LIFX strips as well. Really impressive
Great review.
I purchased lots of Lifx products from z strips to bulbs to gu10’s - all are fantastic and faultless and fantastic
Outstanding video! Does LifX work with 5G network?
Thank you very much. Unfortunately it does not. I wish it did. I know 2.4ghz can be a pain for certain routers.
If you get a premium strip like the LIFX is there a way you can reuse them?
I have 9 Govee strips in my house and I love them. I do have some connection issues from time to time.
i have lifx and i have to spend like 5 mins every time I want to use them.
Great video thanks for the information
Great product, I am honored to provide Govee with automated production equipment for LED strips.
I have lifx but im prbly gonna get some Gove lights. The lifx app has been so glitchy the past few months that its almost a deal breaker at this point. Plus I would like more music options
Can the govee cable be cut or is it just one length? Thanks
i did buy the 32.8ft Govee light strips which are nothing but 2 roles of 16.4ft however i was able to cut one off and connect it to the other using a connector which is sold separately to make one long 32.8ft strip going in one direction which worked out just fine.
Thank you for all the information
do you have a video of your daughters room light install? Im trying to do this for my daughter.
Did you redo this video for the Govee M1, which works great.
No I did not. I am having a problem with the fact they don’t include any warm white or cool white LEDs in there strips. Dedicated white LEDs and HomeKit or Matter support is a must have in an LED for me now. I have turned down sponsorships with them for those two reasons. Thanks for watching.
I mean, in my opinion, i choose govee. I am not so sensitive with LEDs and govee's quality is good on that level of price.
10:19 How long is this cable and will it be able to reach my ceiling without any extension?
what is the app for connecting to your phone?
What is the difference with the difference govee links? Besides the lengths, what’s the “solid color” and “dream color”
Hello Graig, do you have any suggestions regarding the covers for LIFX? I wanna give them a try and place them vertically in my entrance hall corner.
Is it just the camera or is the LIFX more diffused than the GOVEE?
The LIFX is has a wider light spread making it look more diffused.
@@CraigsTechTalk Okay, thank you
Yeah, but what’s the price difference in the two brands?
Also, Govee is very good especially for car underglow/interior glow
I wonder what the new gen 3 lifx polychrome strips are like and how they compare to others
Hi Craig, are any of the compatible with Samsung Smartthings? Can the DIY feature on Govee be triggered with voice activation?
Hi Craig,
You seem to really know a lot about RGB LED lighting strips.
Lmao
What would be the best thing to get if i need 4 x 0.4m (15,7 inch) RGB strips, all powered by batteries?
It's included in the kit.
How many diodes is there between each chip on the different led strips?
Sorry, don’t know and don’t have the time to count. Thanks for watching.
I am on lifx eco so I’ll stick to that but good to know others are getting slightly better
Now govee has alot in the app updated for 2021. Seems like they listen and made it way better
The cheaper brands just don't last and the color brightness is not good enough to add color ambience that looks attractive.
so what are these LED strips technically called?
That can't be right.... is it?
Of the two, which one can support or perform the 6500 Kelvin white?
You would have to get the LIFX for that.
Hey Craig can you link a frosted plastic cover I can use for govee? I would love to get that smooth look.
Thanks Craig. Great comparison.
I have both strips, I’ve had lifx bulbs for years but last year decided to try a led strip…. The lifx kept losing the wifi connection and it was quite close. Govee it’s true is not as bright but it gets my vote over lifx
1 meter for 80bucks compared to 3 meters for 20 bucks , definitely i would go for govee in case the item is defective i won't regret it later, but can't say more your review is top notch and this playlist over all helped me so much ,thanks a lot and did subscribe keep it up !
on black friday (today) i ordered 65.6 ft of govee lights for 45$ and I have an excess of 12 ft of led strip lights.
What is the difference between the dreamcolor and the solid color govee lights? I see the price point is significantly different, why is that?
Solid color will change the whole strip the same color. The dream colors have zones that can be set individually.
Is there plugless led strips
Great video a classic horses for courses advice, you explain both products pros & cons and in the end it’s a value for what you want decision, thanks for the comparison, if I want to make quality UA-cam clips I go the pro range if I want a fun easy to use lighting system I go govee like all your clips good info good advice thanks for sharing love your work. Has your daughter ever asked why she doesn’t have liffx in her room? 😀
2:12
Literally everyone needs to do this. TV too
Thanks for checking out the video.
govee are great and all, but imo, the lifx support makes them so much worth it, if only govee had support for razer synapse...
Where do you find the connectors for 90 and jumpers
I’m looking for some to put behind my bed and desk which should I get
Govee because behind your desk it has nice whites and its budget friends and with the led strips it comes with 2 things if the lights so u could have both led srips going under your bed then one behind your desk lifex is very pricey for very little of the strip
