Yes! I got this for the holiday last month. My Axiom has everything I need & want: 61 full size semi-weighted keys, octave, transpose, pads, faders, USB to Host, & MIDI In & Out (5 prong), sustain pedal, pitch & mod. wheels, etc. I linked my old Yamaha QY drum machine via 5 prong MIDI cables for some odd older preset patterns.
Just got mine out of the den. I used it for 10 minutes back in the days. I am mostly a guitar player and I ended being busy with other things so I put all the Midi learning stuff on the back burner for 10 years up to now. Glad to see it is still relevant.
Yeah!! This is the one I have!! - it's so good I'm not looking to replace it unless it dies on me. Mine is a 1st gen.. but the aftertouch is cool and it works great in Ableton even in 2021
My 49 (non-pro) is still fine, had to replace one set of sensors (for not working) and RMA for modwheel/pitchwheel but its still perfect otherewise now 10y later.
One of the best was Axiom Pro 61 with Aftertouch which I bought back in 2010 and still use it as my main controller in Ableton 10 Live. Honestly I can't find any reason to why I should upgrade to anything else. The only cons are the noisy keybed ( which in no case should be considered as cheap) and the awkward way that transpose buttons are being pressed which are the same for octaves. Back then its competitor was Novation SL MK2 if I remember correctly and after a year came out Novation Impulse which is still one of the best controllers.
your right, back in the day that was the midi keyboard you had to get, I saved up and got it, still have it, going to try to use it later and see if it works with my new stuff.
A bit late to the party. I've been looking for an Axiom 49 but can't seem to find any decent ones. What's the difference between 1st and 2nd generation that was launched a little later? Also, would it be better to just buy an Oxygen Pro 49 in 2021, or is the Axiom 49 better (regarding the features they both have, of course). Would really appreciate an answer!
Found a used Axiom AIR 61, Can't wait till it gets here! I think the noisy keybeds are from cheap rubber bushings or bushings are wearing out. If mine is like that? Then I'll just cut the old ones off and replace them with generic rubber tubing of a similar size, and I bet that would eliminate the noise substantially or silicone grease with foam strips.
i try mine the axiom pro 49 in lastest reason version : it is plug and play and work fine . no need of hypercontrol etc ..... i don't know if there are any support or last sfirmware i can put in in 2022... nobody seem to use it anymore .... i want all 2022 info :)
One question please, does this have some sort of built in speaker you can just plug and play? I didn't see headphone port. Thanks I love playing piano and my violin.
I used to have one and now bought used again - feels great indeed BUT logic won't recognize it properly the auto assign pops up but when I auto assign, it won't recognize the keyboard - no input and no out is shown on the upper panel of logic... any ideas how to fix that ? I could work around with the midi cable, but then only the keys are reacting in logic, all the faders and buttons won't be recognized... maybe someone has a work around or tip ?! greetings
Hey there Mike, not so much related to this specific video but i wanted to let you know your videos encouraged me to buy my first midi controller this week. I ended up settling on a nektar impact gx61 as i already felt 61 keys instead of 88 was a compromise and i'm relatively poor 😂 i'm glad i didn"t go with any less. Having been a previous owner of an upright piano, i already knew the keybed would be far away from that but aside from that lack of bouncyness and weight it's not that bad for the buck and at least matches the performance more or less of the one with a mini keybed i used in college. only cost me 80 quid. And even though the lx61 would have been awesome, because i only wanted it for the drumpad's i've decided to get a drum pad controller at some point, maybe a korg nanopad 2 or the mini midi controller with 12 pads that subzero now do, seeing as it's cheaper and an active usb hub isn't reccomended like with the Korg. Plus i don't really plan to use the two similtaniously. Anyway, i was wondering if you had ever used an expression pedal with your nektar keyboards? Ive spotted a pedal on the market that can supposidely act as a sustain pedal as well as a dampener only having the one 6.35mm or whatever it is output. I was wondering if that would be compatable as well as if there were any others you could possibly reccomend? All the best from England UK 🤘
The 25 was my first and had a lot of trouble getting it to work with FL. Still worth the time, i love the look and feel of the keys. Edit: ahh thats why the guy who sold it to me had Logic pulled up for me to demo. Dang i had that on a USB and lost it lol.

I found a local listing of the 49 key version of this keyboard. But it has a number pad on the left side, and the led screen is on the left, with the sliders in the middle. Do you know if this is a different generation? And is it worth $130?
I've been considering buying a new controller because of the features of some of these new pieces. The Native Instruments and Arturia joints, for example, look very appealing. But then, I look at my Axiom 49 MK1 (with four missing fader caps) still doing what I need it to do and I'm like "Nah, fuck that".
Hey John, I have the same AXIOM49 but except for the E1 key, everything I touch says off in the screen. IDK what the problem is, could you please help me here. When I touch the E1, only then screen says cc otherwise it says off. Please help. Thank you.
It had an Axiom with number buttons on the left side (might have been the mk 1; not sure)... I think they made that version with the number buttons, then removed the buttons in the mk 2... Back in the days I had an Oxygen 49 mk1 (the grey one) then the axiom line came out, wanted one but couldn't afford it at the time. Lol
I have the Axiom 49 with the screen on the left from over 12 years ago! Having trouble getting the fader and rotary presets to work with Ableton 11. It used to be plug and play with presets 18,19,20 on the controller..Anybody have luck with this?
I know you want to talk about controllers but maybe you can still help with this question from me .. I want something that my son can use to control software but I also want something that my daughter can use as something that sounds like a piano (or ideally also a little bit Hammond like).. will this fit my needs?
Hello, how do you compensate that it doesn’t have L/Mono & R outputs? And how do I connect it with the BOSS RC-505mkii? I’ve been able to use the looper with my guitar and microphone by plugging them straight in the looper and into the guitar amp, but I haven’t found a way to loop with the Axiom 49. Do I plug the looper in the laptop? I also have an audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett) and a mixer (Soundcraft Signature 22mtk), how do I add those in? I also have the VT-4 voice transformer, I was thinking I would plug the guitar, mic, and Axiom49 (somehow) in the mixer and the mixer into the VT-4, and then into the audio interface, and then into the laptop with Logic Pro and MainStage
I just bought one instead of novation launchkey mk3... Much better keybed and has everything i need for in a controller. All the note/scale/chord functionality i can get out of ableton and plugins like scaler. Has much better connectivity then more recent keyboards.
@john mike Hi John, I want to buy my first keyboard not a pianist per se, confused between keystation 49 mk3 and launchkey 49 mk3, which one should I get considering just the keybed feel, please help

again great video, love this tb series What is your favorite: Novation KK S49, M-audio hammer 88, studio logic 88? Keybed best also for a cheap 49er? Suggestion if you haven't done: Roland A-49 but they still sell it
I still have mine, I was talked into by an employee at guitar center. I almost sold it but I chose not to. I used it with reasons. Need to get back using it it’s just collecting dust lol
Thanks Mike! I’m new to your channel but I’ll be back… just subscribed 😁 I have the Axiom 61 and bought it to go along with my Proteus 2000… another old-school sound module :-) I dig old gear that can be reused years later… I am anti “planned obsolescence” minded and my fully functional Digi002 rack is a prime example of good gear that technology has moved past in order to sell more hardware…it’s a shame really. Anyhow, forgive me if you’ve already featured the M-Audio Ozonic-37 controller/audio interface and I haven’t seen it yet. But if you could get your hands on one of those I’d like to see the demo. I thought that it was the cat meow when it first came out back in the early 2000s…FireWire, mic input w/preamp, and joystick (sound panning?), etc. Just seemed like a cool little controller that could do so many things at once, yet it has vanished into history? Thanks man! Keep up the good work…I’ll be checking back in ;)

Had my Axiom 49 mk1 since new. I frequently look at new controllers when the keys on it start to act up on this one but it still feels better and has better controls than almost everything I've tried minus the Keylab mk2. If anyone is having trouble with select keys on the keybed not working I drop it on the side with the mod/pitch wheels from 3-4 inches up and it fixes it temporarily until I transport it. YMMV obviously.

I found a local listing of the 49 key version of this keyboard. But it has a number pad on the left side, and the led screen is on the left, with the sliders in the middle. Do you know if this is a different generation? And is it worth $130?
Just copped my first “real” midi controller it’s an axiom 25! great video!
Does anyone by chance have the user manual for this one? I'm trying to reset mine to factory settings. Thank you!
Keytars! Videos on keytar controllers please. I just got an Axiom 49 used today for $27.00 in an o line auction. So I was happy to find this!
Hey John,
I have the same AXIOM49 but except for the E1 key, everything I touch says off in the screen. IDK what the problem is, could you please help me here. When I touch the E1, only then screen says cc otherwise it says off. Please help.
Thank you.
Man til this day I still use mine and it's still 💯💯💯
With new Mac os and logic?
does it work with ableton live 10?
@@Thehomerecker I have a older imac running lion with Protools 8 le
It had an Axiom with number buttons on the left side (might have been the mk 1; not sure)... I think they made that version with the number buttons, then removed the buttons in the mk 2... Back in the days I had an Oxygen 49 mk1 (the grey one) then the axiom line came out, wanted one but couldn't afford it at the time. Lol
Same! Lol sep I had the gray keystation...😂
Got one for free today! Can’t wait to use it
I have the Axiom 49 with the screen on the left from over 12 years ago!
Crazy how everyone got it for like 50-100 bucks, I paid like 230 + 50 shipping from an offer on Reverb lol
Thinking about copping a an axiom pro but not sure if it works in the new Mac OS and Logic Pro
How can you setup this M-audio keyboard as piano? Can the audio be connected to some time of speaker?
The keyboard has no audio, you have to connect it to your PC and use some audio software that plays through the PC speakers.
I still have mine. It's beat up now with missing knobs
Would it still be worthwile purchse as first keyboard in 2024.I have one available locally for 80eur ?
Availability of Midi controller has come a long way since. It's amazing how many toys kids can get now a days for cheap.
i have a axiom pro 61 I love it I also have a roland A90-ex and its epic controller too. paired with reason EPIC
I just bought one instead of novation launchkey mk3... Much better keybed and has everything i need for in a controller. All the note/scale/chord functionality i can get out of ableton and plugins like scaler. Has much better connectivity then more recent keyboards.
I see these all the time for under $100. I've been considering the Nektar t4, but this looks intriguing.
Still have mine
I have the 61 key. It came with Ableton LT
@john mike Hi John, I want to buy my first keyboard not a pianist per se, confused between keystation 49 mk3 and launchkey 49 mk3, which one should I get considering just the keybed feel, please help
Does this still work? I couldn't get my old one to work with logic, and I was unable to find a driver. But it popped right up for you, so it's strange.
Did you ever figure it out?
I'm in the same boat
any chance of one these older keyboards working with an ipad?
It should work fine with the newer ones...the older you will need a powered USB hub
I can not find a driver update for windows 10. How can you run this?
I still have my Axiom 61 and use it for quick song ideas rather than going to my 88 key Korg Krome.
Please do one video about the impulse 49
Roaring 20's. What's the replacement with same functionality in 2021 ?
I would go for the m-audio oxygen pro
@@Johnmike 👍
Great video!!
I'd love to see you do the Novation Impulse 😊😊
again great video, love this tb series
What is your favorite: Novation KK S49, M-audio hammer 88, studio logic 88? Keybed best also for a cheap 49er?
Suggestion if you haven't done: Roland A-49 but they still sell it
out of that list...StudioLogic...Best 49 keybed M-Audio Keystation 49es
@@Johnmike and overall? Checking always all your video comments to find an answer to your top3:D highly value your reviews
Fantastic Review! Irijule TheoryBoard.
Still using this same controller today lol
I still have mine, I was talked into by an employee at guitar center. I almost sold it but I chose not to. I used it with reasons. Need to get back using it it’s just collecting dust lol
some of them inclued one kind of an ableton live license and printed manual but everything is quite on the internet
Thanks Mike! I’m new to your channel but I’ll be back… just subscribed 😁
I have the Axiom 61 and bought it to go along with my Proteus 2000… another old-school sound module :-)
I dig old gear that can be reused years later… I am anti “planned obsolescence” minded and my fully functional Digi002 rack is a prime example of good gear that technology has moved past in order to sell more hardware…it’s a shame really.
Thanks man! Keep up the good work…I’ll be checking back in ;)
I had one of those years back! It was amazing! I really wish they would bring it back...I’m looking to try to find another one soon
Just got one for 60 bucks, now I just need to know how to use it lol (speaking of the functions)
Not gonna lie I think M-Audio is still king of midi controllers till this day
Lots of user reviews commenting on the low built quality of the newer models and that their knobs, faders etc break after a few months.
HEY BROTHER CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO GET MY PADS TO WORK ON MY M-AUDIO AXIOM 49 NO RESPONSE WHEN I TAP ON THE PADS THEY WORK THE DAY BEFORE I BELIEVE I TOUCH A BOTTOM AN TN TURN THEM OFF BUT NEED TO TURN BACK ON
Had my Axiom 49 mk1 since new. YMMV obviously.
ive had loads of cheap midi keyboards in passed now ive bought an old M-Audio Axiom Pro 49 looks cool and can't wait use it i was going get M-Audio Keystation 49 MK3 but thought maybe something thats older that was more expensive would be better then cheap newer one anyways that MK3 was 85 pound new and Axiom pro i got for 83 pound and was only used once so they say no box witch is real shame but that keyboard back in 2011 was £260+ so think made best choice as got loads cool features unlike other one that was basic
Does this work with reaper do you know?
Yes.
Aftertouch?
John Mike, have you tried the famous E electric Rhodes piano by orange tree samples?
Not yet! Hopefully soon!
New to your channel-love your videos! I'm looking at getting a midi keyboard, my budget is around £100 (till I can afford something more high end). I'm also a piano player so the playability/expression of the keys is really important to me. What would you recommend?
Welcome! Hard for around that price range...but I would check out the M-audio Keystation 49 and the Nektar SE49
@@Johnmike Thank you so much! Really appreciate your recommendations :-)
It's cream de la cream or cream of the crop. Welcome , i take a lot of information from your videos.
Just got another one off mercari after 11 years after selling mine to go with my old ableton 8
just got this for 30 canadian dollerydoos! pretty dope
