If you are flying any aircraft into a SAM situation, you have been left without other options. The pilots learn to train against targeting systems and how to fly somewhat damaged, if no f35s were shot down there’s a huge portion of talent to be given toward intel and the pilots. But knowing the technology is always changing and parts on these systems could improve, you don’t wanna poke the bear.
It’s a very rare occasion that a gun could even work in a modern dogfight, but the fact is that it does happen, albeit once in a thousand sorties. Then there is pilot state of mind. The F4 Phantom was designed without a gun because we had brought online the latest and greatest air to air missiles, and the planes designers felt it was too expensive and unnecessary. The first time a missile failed or the pilot fired them all, the pilots expressed horror at being vulnerable and pilot morale plummeted. A gun was added, and it simply has been a dead issue ever since. The issue may be revisited in the future, but for now, all fighters, even the invulnerable F22, are designed with a gun. I feel there’s no need to revisit the issue. You’re not going to change the pilots minds, and it’s their lives on the line anyway. To gun or not to gun will be an issue soon dealt with, as the military wants to built the sixth generation fighter with a new optional pilot. I prefer it built with no cockpit to save huge amounts of money, space, and an ability to fly as no human could bare. The future will be very interesting, no doubt! Exciting, don’t you think?
yep a gatling cannon is always your last resort. But u need it for when shit hits the fan and also its very useful for multi-role fighters like the f35 cus they can do a-10 like CAS
the problem is that when two modern jets merge, one or both of them has to die. There is no extending away. there is no escape. It doesn't cost much at all to implement a cannon with a few hundred rounds of ammo. The jet, especially one as heavy and bulky as the F35, isn't going to perform particularly better without it. There's no reason to rob the pilot of the only weapon that will work when two jets are within a km or so of one another.
@@TheGrammargestapo1 I agree for the most part, except the point you made about it’s weight. I researched that, and the guns weight is significant. There’s a whole bunch a plane can do with that amount of freed up weight and space. At least a bomb or two in weight, and a decent amount of avionics with the freed up space. One problem. Big problem. Pilot moral would plummet if they don’t get a gun for their last resort effort at living. Say what you will it makes no difference. It’s a dead issue. It doesn’t matter what anyone believes, the pilots don’t feel safe without one. I tend to agree, even though what I think doesn’t matter. Usually the word, “stigma,’ is a negative connotation, but it doesn’t have to be. For instance, like a plane without a gun is stigmatized, right or wrongly, as being vulnerable by the pilots, likewise, any jet presented to the US Navy for consideration as the latest backbone of the fleet, like the F18 is, that doesn’t have two engines, is stigmatized as a risk to the life of the pilot by the Navy brass. It’s nearly impossible to get past the stigma, even though the single engine F35 has only “crashed” in the true sense of the word only once, for reasons unknown, and that only after seventeen (17) years in service. The single engine state of the F35 is the biggest reason the Navy hasn’t jumped at stocking the fleet with F35’s. Frankly, I don’t know why the military doesn’t just make a two engine F35?
1. The F-35 has only one engine because it is a “budget-aircraft” its exported to alot of western countries and adding another engine wouldve genuinely increased costs by a serious margin. (Also you cant really chance that single engine design aftewards because if you look at the way planes are made they have a big part of then designed around the engine. 2. The gun serves an incredibly useful factor which nobody here has gone further indepth on. But that is aerial support for ground troops. A burst of 20mil could be detrimental for the survival of ground troops in contact. The f-35 actually shows that it follows this doctrine by coming equiped with a 25Mil cannon which is more usefull against ground targets compared to the 20MM which is better for aerial targets. 3 there are certain manouvers that let you escape out of a dogfight situation. Keep in mind that even a missile like an AMRAAM has only a 4 Nm range against a target that is flying away at high speed at a low level. Creating 4 Nm of distance between you and an opponent isnt impossible if you are in a supersonic jet 4 putting a multi barreled gatling gun that also needs space for ammunition on a plane is a serious design factor. (The F/A-18 has a long nose to fit both the gun and the radar, the A-10 is even designed around the gun it has) altough there are examples of planes later receiving the ability to carry gunpods like the AV-8b harrier, F-35 (some versions) or the L-39ZA

The F-35 is THE best example of corporate welfare that you can point at.
the amount of force and strain that the gundoor has to handle, firstly the force and pressure from that gatling gun firing and then of course windforces blowing and tearing on it during full flight, it has to pop open and close right back, most impressive feat of engineering making this rather "miniscule" part of the entire jet possible.
Minor correction.. the F35A is not the “smallest variant”, it’s the same size as the B.. the C is indeed larger than them though in terms of width and very little in height.
I feel like the B variant is smaller than the A vriant right? They don't have the same width, the B variant is kinda smaller and might be lighter than the others.
The only significant difference in dimensions between the three models is that the C model has a wingspan of 13.1 meters whilst the A and B models have a span of 10.7 meters.
In essence, the A and B are nearly identical in size (small differences in the engine nozzle), while the C has a notably larger wing, both in width and length. This allows for lower approach speeds needed for carrier landings. Despite their similar sizes, the B is substantially heavier (~2,500 lbs) than the A due mostly to the STOVL system (ducted fan, articulating nozzle, etc.) It also has a much lower fuel capacity and payload than the A. The C is the heaviest due to the larger wings, reinforced landing gear, arrestor hook, etc. Basically, the same disadvantages that every navilized version of an aircraft has.

A10 2000-3700 rounds a minute. F35 3300 rounds a minute. So the f35s shoots faster most times, I’m pretty sure the a10s shots are bigger tho. We shouldn’t even be comparing because there 2 totally different kinds of aircraft, the f35s just better.
The two planes are built for different purposes, the F-35 is multipurpose the A-10 is air to ground anti vehicle, the F-35 costs more to maintain and needs a paved runway to function, the A-10 is cheap and effective with great fuel efficiency and can land on a dirt road covered in razor blades, the F-35 has a smaller gun than the A-10, the A-10 flies slower than the F-35 to maximize its airtime to allow the pilot to acquire targets as he or she plummets towards the earth, either way the F-35 is not replacing the A-10 warthog nor will it ever because the army won’t let the Air Force retire it, and the army practically owns the air force indirectly
The gatling was reported ineffective for the f35. It was written that firing the gun destabilized too much the aircraft and would modify the behavior of the plane. The pentagone managed to solve this alert by writing on the report that not using the gatling will solve this issue
The engine is a F135, not a F136. The F136 was developed by General Electric for the Lightning II, but ultimately they went with the Pratt & Whitney F135 because it's more powerful and reliable. The F135 was developed from the F119 (F22 Raptor) which was developed from the most reliable fighter engine ever built, the F100 (F16, F15, X47B)

F35 testing new ultra fast gatling gun
A10 warhog:Im I joke to you
A10 2000-3700 rounds a minute. F35 3300 rounds a minute. So the f35s shoots faster most times, I’m pretty sure the a10s shots are bigger tho. We shouldn’t even be comparing because there 2 totally different kinds of aircraft, the f35s just better.
Oh wait the a10 does shoot faster. But the f35 is far superior.
@@twoarc7293 and the f35 is stealth the a10 isn’t.
All that stealth isn't worth spit in a CAS mission against a guy armed with a gun with enough reach and an eyeball mk I.
Beautiful planes well built to take flight into the Air wherever needed..flys easily and smooth in the skies..👍👍💯💯ratings ..
The gatling was reported ineffective for the f35. It was written that firing the gun destabilized too much the aircraft and would modify the behavior of the plane. The pentagone managed to solve this alert by writing on the report that not using the gatling will solve this issue
Hello all you really Great 👍
The engine is a F135, not a F136.
Beautiful f35
El futuro nuevo caza español 🤩🤩👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽
The US do make awesome looking War Machines.
@petnzme01
So is your mother but she gets it regularly. What’s your point?

US jet fighter pilot: yes?
Awsome gun
Now this I have to see!
GAU-22 goes BRRRRRRRRRRR
Боже храни Америку!!!
The fate of the f22 and f35 will be like f117
Ahhhh, he did, he gave the pilot the finger at the end of salute, that's funny.
He pointed up at the end. It's an apotropaic gesture, which means a gesture used to ward off bad luck. Common on flight decks.
@@oakpkdude yeah, It's a common gesture in my neck of the woods too...LOL
We have a new BRRRRRRRRT, fellas.
I wish the USA would go with kilos instead of Pounds. It makes so much more sense, you can convert kilograms to tons instantly.
I wish the same. But if you want a rough estimate you can divide pounds by 2, and you have kilos.
2000 lbs - 1ton.....you right that was hard as freezer meat😯🤯
@@cjjonez What a calculation man....
Just that if you have used Google, you would have found that 2204 lb is a tonne
Now try converting 75 tonne to pounds in under 5 seconds, and educate us how easy it was, I bet like freezer meat.
Ohh btw, 75 tonnes is 75000 kgs and yeah it was really hard, like a freezer meat
I wish other countries would stop trying to tell America how to do stuff. We single-handedly created the modern world with our system. I think it works fine. Good day.
@@mikebode3740 Even the language used here is of west Germanic origin and they single-handedly created the modern world... epitome of confidence.
Хороший аппарат! 👍🙋
God☝Bless 👏US air force 💪🇺🇸
So nice info views. Like it. Thanks for sharing, friend. Take care & seeU.^-^
Muito bom ✌🏻
Amazing...👍👍👍👍
best part of this expensive lemon
@Fondil Mahbols i think you haven't tested a lemon.
Los gringos son los reyes del mundo.,no hay quien se atreva a enfrentarlos.,su experiencia en la guerra, escuadrones especiales,y estas maravillas de naves, barcos, submarinos etc lo hacen lo más letal de la tierra.

The only thing 'ultra fast' about that Gatling gun is how quickly it runs out of ammunition
Ok, yes 3300 (25mm) rounds per minute is fast... but the 20mm M61A2 Vulcan sprays 6600 rounds per minute.
Even the GAU-8 sends 30mm murder bananas at 4200 rpm.
Cool stuff nonetheless
Also a correction, the F35 uses the P&W F135 engine. The F136 was the competing engine from GE that didn't make it to production because the "adaptive cycle" technology was too much of a technological risk... which now even P&W says it wants to implement.
30mm murder bananas I love it that line cracker me hell up especially if you picture that literally In your head like I did
Всем добра. Привет всем из России.
Nice to see they took the bore sight fixture OFF the aircraft before firing!
ol
idk why f18 looks so badass
i see good on 2:58 crew member show finger ...:P
It's the Shaka sign
Canada today just firmed up $14 billion USD purchase of 88 F-35s. I think it’s about time.
(I won’t add any cynical comments about Trudeau in 2015 saying “we will never purchase F-35s ; )
It definitely fired more than 181 rounds.
F-35 = yehhhh baby

Is that the bomb that’s making the whistle?
Engine on the recording aircraft I believe. Either way, it is an engine.
It lined well tho
Thats the bomb Im pretty sure
@@inverspe9774 It's not. That low whistle is the engine. A falling bomb would not make that whistling noise, nor would it be loud enough to hear from the cockpit of another aircraft.
doubt it
Hola!!! Después de Probar una Nave de 200 Millones!!! Merece Probar un Carlos Primero 1 de 100 Años ....😎😎😎😎😎😎
Soldier : "My General, we made test on F-35 systems!"
General : "yeh, what the matter?"
Soldier : "Stealth works well, missiles are efficient, bombs are terrible and canon is accurate!"
General : "Does it fly?"
Soldier : "How about weather today?"
General : "Ok, i will buy some Rafales..."

Hola.saludos a ee.uu desde Venezuela
The F15 remains king of the skies.
No doubt about it!!
I like the variant with the bigger wings 👍😀
30 sec of gatling gun, 10 minutes of other crap.
0:56 for the GAU-22
A-10 is the one USAF can't replace it
If it wasn't for all that "crap" as you call it you probably wouldn't be posting in English on UA-cam.
The guy in cockpit relies on everyone, including the person back at the officer's dining room peeling his potatoes.
It's a team.
Period.

Good come back for a guy up posting on UA-cam at 4am, meth or minimum wage 3rd shift while blowing it in on your free government phone ?
F22 and F35 looks the best among all fighter jets, they really look like something ufo from the future
2:58 Look at his finger :) The Mechanic Fxxx to Pilot in his behind
Yep, I saw that too.
That’s his pinky, not his middle. 🤙
Nice machine
El mejor caza del mundo 👍😶😶👏 también los f18 y f15 y f16

Remember, the F35 is equal to F16 in speed & agility.
The sweet 16 still rocks the socks off anything, anytime, anywhere! Now we have the 35!
have you seen the new Sukoi fighters? as in the Su-57? sorry man i love the old yard dart but she dont stand a chance against the felon
@@TheCort1971 remind me when they will use the felon.... Then talk. Btw yeah, if the felon really is that powerful, (not proven lmao) then the F-22 will take care of it... Felon still struggles with the stealth so atm its kind of sitting duck if AWACS is used. I hope they will upgrade that bird, it looks nice but the performance is not as good if it's supposed to be the most advanced Russia aircraft. And since ur a sukhoi fan boy pls write sukhoi correctly. * Sukhoi *
@@KJ-kn8pg uh huh.... keep thinking that. if you cant hit it you cant shoot it down. and thats the end of the story. talk about not being proven? shit when did the raptor get proven i must have missed its combat debut where it was combat proven with kills. its a bad ass bird that is no doubt. but shitting on the felon is fucking stupid. just like you.
