    Saw him playing live with Billy Idol a few years ago. I hadn't listened to that much of his stuff closely before, but he totally blew me away that gig. He played an acoustic solo spot that outgunned any players that use distortion.

    Steve Stevens is a riff machine, and has had a spectacular career and for all you people who are being disrespectful, well you are all showing what little guitar knowledge you have!

    My SS is on the way! It is going to be signed by Mr. Stevens on 4-21-14 and then shipped to me. I am like a kid waiting for Christmas. I wish that I wasn't going to sound like myself (as Mark and Steve report). I wish I was going to sound like Steve. In fact, if Brad King can guarantee that I sound like Steve, I will pay double!! I love SS and MD. What a class act. I don't know if you guys recall, but Steve was one of the few guitarists to record with Michael Jackson. He is a Grammy winner to boot. He is far too under rated and deserves more fame.

      Recording with Jackson isn't something to be excited about unless you are into little boys! It sounds very Dangerous to me. Dirty Dian was just a cover for his interest in boys! MJ was a Smooth Criminal!

    One of my favorite guitarists. Always has great tone that compliments the song as a whole. He doesn't "overpower" a song, where all you here is him noodling and playing as fast as he can, like a lot of his contemporaries. Love his style.

    The #1 Most Underrated Guitarist In Rock & Roll is Steve Stevens. Consistently stellar tone, all the right notes, no drama, never over plays, always adds to to the song - and that thing he does at 3:38... It took me months to get that down. He's one of my favorites.

    Saw a recent clinic with Steve and Friedman here in Detroit the SS100 has an incredible punch and so full sounding also got to talk to Steve a bit about his work with Michael Jackson I asked him about his huge hair in the Dirty Diana video he said MJ made the other musicians go out and get matching wigs lol good stuff.

    • @nigeldaddyo
      @nigeldaddyo 8 років тому

      i play gigs. i got rid of it though LOL. i liked the sound of it but then after a few days i broke out my Orange Rockerverb 50 MKii and A/B'd them and to my surprise i liked my tried and true Orange way better. go figure. i don't know if i got a bad SS, but mine sounded nowhere near as good as the video, and i don't play crap guitars either. studio trickery? don't get me wrong it sounded great, but not as good as in this video, or my Orange.

    • @cbond99
      @cbond99 8 років тому +2

      Yeah, studio trickery I say. He says, just a Boss EQ, BAE preamp & compression from the amp. But look at the 3 rack enclosures behind him. Plus you can hear a digital delay every time he stops playing. I think I hear a Harmonizer in there too.

  • @SuperColinboy
    @SuperColinboy 10 років тому +2

    Steves tone is unbelievable i love the thick crunchy overdrive tone he gets so crisp and clean and you can really hear all the notes like he says. Does he get this by running the preamp tubes with less gain and more volume at the power amp stage?

    • @christiangrumann695
      @christiangrumann695 10 років тому

      I'm sure its a lot of preamp gain as friedmans are known to sound great any volume. Heard something like there was only little bass in the preamp but a lot in the power section. This and I guess a lot of other reasons ( very well selected parts; cricuits) must be the reason for the great note seperation and tone.That and Steve Stevens playing :D

  • @retornaz
    @retornaz 11 років тому

    I agree with you. I don't known what effects he use but i know its not a Les Paul + Friedman
    At 3:13, in this right, you can see bargraph and his left a peak led above.
    Despite the effects, hats off Mr Stevens ! I play guitar since 30 years and i'm in a position to do 10% of what he do...

    Steve Stevens is one of many guitarists who separate the men from the boys. There is no comparison between a guitarist who gigs at the highest level all the time and the fools who think they are their equal just by practicing at home.

    this is just freaking fantastic, but man I wish we could get a full run down on how the amp was setup with effects and such. Such stereo definition. Is it wet/dry or effects in the loop? How was it micd and what speakers???

  • @kalebaldwin5398
    @kalebaldwin5398 11 років тому

    Notice that Steve talks about how amps with the super saturated front end hide the player's character and don't record well. I like a Marshally crunch tone (like a JCM 800, Jubilee, or 900 when operated the right way), and then I hit it with an overdrive. Gain off, level cranked. Tightens it up. Gives it bite.

    I'm sure that it, being a Friedman, is a top shelf amp, but I would like to hear what a lowly JVM 410HJS tweaked by the Steve man(his settings) sounded next to it. The internet makes everything sound different. Having a base point would be cool.
