@@jessetate9701 So many stellar guitarists over the years would go to Friedman to have him mod their stock Marshall amps. He became a legend as an amp tech, and the line of Friedman amps is the result. The Friedman "Pink Taco" is a smaller amp ( and a bit cheaper ) that is more suited for club gigs & recording studios, but it still has all the killer tones & more than enough to cut through when performing in larger venues. It's my personal preference among these killer amps. 100 watts is simply far too loud for over 90% of the gigs that most working musicians will perform in anyway. But make no mistake, the little Pink Taco can STILL get you evicted, lol. Believe that.
I ended up getting one of these based mostly on this demo. I must say that just over a year later, I am still blown away by this amp every time I turn it on. It really is worth every penny.
This is about as close to the "God tone" us old school hot rodded Marshall plexi freaks have always sought as one can possibly get. And Phil X is nuts good and entertaining!
It was thanks to this video that I now own two Friedman's. A 77' Marshall JMP "Kitchen Sink" mod and a BE100. Two of the best purchases I've made in nearly 40 years of being a tonally obsessed, guitar freak. And I can tell you first hand, the BE100 sounds EXACTLY LIKE THIS. Not just close....EXACTLY! Seriously! I've never been happier than I am with my Friedman's. Forget the high price. If you want the tone - THIS IS IT! And worth every penny.
This is the BEST amp demo and strat demo I've ever seen! Holy shit.... he nails Van Halen's mythical brown sound then nails Jimi.. wtf??? Because Of this video ...I've have called luxxtone to talk about a custom choppa s and they couldn't be nicer. Keep the "rockness" flowing Phil x.
Listened with headphones...had to crank to full volume! Sounded so freakin good! Man that guy can play!!! I always love watching Phil play too...he loves it so much! He always gets into it. Nice to see someone making a living doing what they love to do...awesome!
The switch between the van halen-esque shredding and the Little Wing rendition...he played it with so much soul it was surprising. Real musician here. That was beautiful and super entertaining.
So, I’m a Helix user and I’ve been here before on this video. I only recently started using the Friedman model (placater) in the helix and it’s REALLY close to this. It retains a lot of the nuance that this amp has. Crank your volume and it roars. Dial it back on the guitar and it cleans up beautifully. I’m really impressed with the guys at line 6 for this marvel.
It sounds incredible when Phil plays it. I finally got to try one today. It just sounded okay. The main drawback is that unless you're going to be playing stadiums there isn't much use for it. I had the master on 1 in the enclosed amp room at the store where I was checking it out and things were vibrating pretty heavily in there. If you played it at home on 1 your neighbors would call the police.
Line out box to a TC2290 and Matrix GT800FX power amp. The FX loop on this amp is great, I use it for my rig and the amp sounds fantastic from whisper to LOUD. I love this amp!!
I got to admit, first time I saw a video with Phil X I couldn`t stand him, but I stumbled upon many videos with him reviewing gear and I changed my mind, he`s pretty cool and makes killer reviews. That amp...I would sell my kidney for it!
+Bruzz Boe At $3,500 per amp, definitely not. But who cares, Friedman's going to release this in a pedal version in a few months, so us poor folks can have a piece of this awesome tone as well!
@@george25199 over 5K where i live ! Ridiculous. Somebody has one for sale, used/mint condition. Asking $3900, almost a great deal ! Lol Damn what a great sounding amp
The amp to the right has a centered control panel. Not sure if its a BE100 too. Actually, Marshall once made a model with the control panel off-center. The pro was that it had an even wight distribution, so the head wouldn't tilt when lifted. The con was that it was a huge flop, the awkward front put most people off.
Your one of the first rock guitarist demo guys that hasn't bored me to death with your playing, nice combination of chords and lead, real nice sound of the amps and guitars.
1 months after my posting I bought Motor City 2nd Black Belt with Woodward pickups. Next week I put my order in for a Friedman Dirty Shirley. Oh yes I am drooling to get my first Friedman amp.
So how you like the 2nd Degree Black Belts? Did you mean Woodward or 2nd DBB in neck or bridge? I've really been wanting a set of Motor City Pickups for as long as I can remember, but never have pulled the trigger. I do know that the 2nd DBB is Dave's favorite pickup, so it MUST sound good right, lol.
***** Sold my Dirty Shirley to get a Small Box. Yes the pickups are worth it. However, I find myself using JB with Texas Specials more often. Nothing to do with Motor City's quality. Just personal preferences. Still have them and use them.
the one thing i love about Phil X is that he plays with feel...his style isn't too complicated and i think thats the way rock was intended to be...feel free and loose...IMO I always seem to be able to make it thru the entire video when watching Phil...plus his short outbursts will wake you up!! if you get bored with the technical talk for sure...keep em coming Phil! cheers
what up Scott. my phone died and I am rewatching the Johnny Beane show. thanks for the heads up on the Mettallica customtone uploads. just saw the comment. Rock on. I used to work with Phil x in LA when he was in the band powder. Hes a cool Dude. ROCK ON MAN
Friedman uses funny names for all his amps.. Dirty Shirly, Pink Taco, Smallbox 50 and such. The brown eye came from the fact that you get Van Halen's brown sound with this amp. That's where the brown eye came from...
You know how you can tell this is a great amp, there are no bad demos of be100.it sounds awesome no matter who plays it.Phil x i love your demos you are so excited about the equipment you are demoing and are able to bring out the best tones out of whatever you are playing.
Well said. I have one, and even I sound good through it. That's living testimony to your statement! Not only does it make you sound better, but it makes even cheap guitars sound amazing. It makes my Les Paul R9 sound unbelievable!
Anıl Yazar yep, typical for Phil x. He once had a 24 fret guitar in which he never used the neck pickup and so he pulled it out and noticed that the guitar sounded different, in his eyes better, because there were less magnets which stopped the string from vibrating and so on. So he pulled it out on every other guitar too.
I have the Friedman BE 100 Deluxe. It really is an End All Be All Amp. I sold all my other amps except for the JCM800. They are all the amps I'll ever need.
Dirty Shirley knarl for my ears all night long. really digging the neck pickup. Gibson's getting It right lately.that strat was workin!! I'm that one??? F--K yeah!! Can't go wrong for brown tones here. Nailed it. If that's your thing. But powerage is my favorite album. JTM-45 ALL NIGHT
As good as the amp sounds(and it does sound awesome!), Phil X sounds better! Such an incredible player and performer and he sings pretty damn good, as well!
Brown Eye is like $3,500 and you're lucky if you can find a TC 2290 for under a grand. Not to mention that reverb unit and the Les Paul...hmm, $10,000 set up. I can afford that.
whats the differance between the new BE-100 and the 2012 and 2013 one with the built in attenuator? Is it the same tone and same circut or where there upgrades in the sound of the amp? Please help I wanna buy one but I only played the new one at a guitar center but I really need that half power switch!
I watch this demo every couple days and it still blows me away every time. Even over UA-cam, the quality of this design comes through perfectly sufficient. Wow, I've never heard anything like it. I wish it was lower Wattage....:( Sadly, this is just too loud for my applications at the moment. It has such an amazing overdrive tone. Phil's energy makes it all the more awesome! Great design Dave! Dammit....
One of the best tones I have ever heard in a demo. Thumb up!
"What? $3000.00 for a guitar amp? What they're thinking? That's stupid"
Phil-X: "That's an E chord..."
"I'm sold! Shut up and take my money!! "
Actually, it's more like $3,600.00. I bought one, and I have never regretted it from day one. It's amazing ..
goneflying140 man I played one want one so Sd but can’t afford it
LOL
Renato Cara what goes into this amp is more better quality and handwired

Aye - amp sounds badass, playing sounds badass!

I've watched a thousand amp reviews, and a thousand Phil X videos, but this is pretty much the best of both.
Legendary video, I still watch this in 2019! Gotta love Phil X!
Its 2020 and i am back again... still don't own one of these amazing amps.
That first E-chord blown my mind. Pure hard rock tone, on of the best I have heard in ages
I don't know how many times I've come back to listen to this amazing amp demonstration.
Phil X Not included.
Malcolm Reynolds he’s a rad guitar player and an awesome dude and you’re concerned about his political beliefs? Fuck off
Jeff this is pro gear however ... not average
😢
Damn, Phil X doesn't need a band. I could just watch him play.
Whenever I set up my speakers I play this video because of the godly mix and unreal playing.

Most accurate comment in the video.
I can’t believe that this video is 10 years old. I remember when it came out.
Fuck!!!! These heads are amazing.. just wish they were little more affordable. Thank you for having the wet dry signal panned..
This is one of your best videos Phil X! Thanks for sharing.
Amazing playing, especially the little wing :)
DUDE!!
I'm watching this vid every couple a days, it's just totally satisfying to hear Phil play the guitar over that amp.
Fuuuuuuuuuuh... Rock and roll lives in this amp and his fingers.
I get here at least once a year. Phil is incredible

Phil X sounds amazing no matter what he plays through or with....the guy is a legend.
What a player. Little Wing at the end is what sells me on this amp
Man....this amp is so puuuuuuuuuurfect. So pure, rich and round sounding.
That is a rich tone. Super harmonic. Bright and deep too. Love the brown sound when it is done right. Most pedals can't cop that.
So many years later and this is still the best rock tone ever recorded
Yes as above. I've checked EVERY BE100 sound online & I can NOT find a bad sound. They are freaking amazing amps
