- A step by step video tutorial on how to set up Boss RC600 Loop Station to work in "Single Mode". If you are a solo performer, and want to learn how to sound like a band by yourself on stage using the Boss RC-600, I assure this will be the one video you will need to watch to learn and perform with "Single Mode" on RC-600 as a solo performer.
RC600's Single Mode is one of the best tools for solo performers to sound like a band using pre-recorded loops. This video explicitly shows each step on how to set up RC600 to record and then perform using Single Mode. The video also talks about how to Assign Rhythm Variations to different pedals.
The example performance in the video is a song by The Beatles, and they hold all the rights to the song. Following are the credits of the song performed in this tutorial:
Song: Let It Be
Artist: The Beatles
Composer: Sir Paul McCartney
Producer: Phil Spector
Release Date: May 08, 1970
Title music composed and produced by Aqeel John - Johnny B'. All rights of the title music are reserved with Aqeel John - Johnny B'.

brilliant indeed. thank you George
Thank you for the comment, and you are very welcome.
Absolutely brilliant! I've been looking to use the RC600 as an arranger i.e. Intro, verse, chorus etc. and this is by far the best video out there. Thank you very much for this Aqeel!
you are very welcome and thank you for leaving the comment, good luck. And please do subscribe if you haven't already, thank you and good luck again.
Tip: increase the speed for changing values on the knobs… simple push the knob and then turn it at the same time.
The best teacher, so clear, and the reds arrows😍
Thank you so much for the tip and I really appreciate the kind words of appreciation
Mine comes tomorrow. I'm trading in the rc 300 that I bought used and thought it was the top of the line. You explained this the best so far. I'll be coming back to watch this a few more times I think. Thanks
I am so happy that you found it helpful, I have never used RC300 but please don’t give up on 600 too quick. I have 3 - 4 tutorials coming up on rc600 including how to copy setting and how to arrange songs with diff bar lengths . Please subscribe
Thanks! Best of a hundred vids for using the unit this way. For composing it’s amazing. It interfaces with Logic X perfectly. But there a lot of little details…things you pretty much have to know and you nailed it.
Thank you so much for such encouraging words, it really motivates me to do more of them, thank you so much. And yes, indeed this unit has a lot that it can offer, I havent even scratched the surface.
Thank you for this! I am just getting started in looping and starting with the RC 600 is pretty intimidating. This will get me going nicely until I get more comfortable with it.
You are very welcome buddy, it's a beast of a system, and there are many parameters to explore. I have adapted this workflow as it serves my needs, but there are many, many different ways to use RC-600.
Very good, man !!!
thank you so much .
Absolutely the best explanation of this unit. I am a newbie. I have listened to this so many times because the unit is very confusing for me. But your explanation has really helped. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. Really appreciate it!!
You are very welcome my friend, I am glad it helped. I am soon going to upload another video which will be focused on Multi Mode live looping. Stay tuned please. And good luck, indeed its a very confusing unit. Good luck.

You are very welcome Benjamin and I really appreciate you writing to me and letting me know your thoughts. Enjoying making music on this bad boy.
BRILLIANT, VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND SUPER VID MATE
Thank you for your comment, its very positive feedback for me, really appreciate it. Good luck.
yeah! great tutorials bringing very nice inspiring ideas for preparing a gig! personnally I would change rythms & variations assigning an external pedal specifically assigned to that functions so that I keep more flexibility moving from one variation to another. Many thanks for your video! really useful!
thank you for liking my work, I appreciate it. I agree a hundred percent on assigning a separate pedal for rhythms, its in the pipeline.
Great Vid! Thank You. If you push down on the button while scrolling it enables you to scroll much faster. :)
Thank you so much for your comment and sharing the scrolling secrete, I wish I knew it while I made that video. Hopefully the video helped you. Please do subscribe . Thank you.
Forgot to say, you are a very big inspiration to me and I enjoyed every last minute of your video. Any more?
OMG Alfred, thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words, it means a lot. Keep making music buddy.
There‘s a faster and more versatile way to achieve the same result using the increment / decrement switches. Instead of using the tracks to switch between verse and chorus, ending etc., you use the memories. All you have to do is program one pedal to start/stop, one to dec and one to inc. With that you‘re not only in full control of the song structure, but also of each track. If you want to add vocal harmonies - let‘s say to the chorus - that you only want on the last chorus, now you can realize that by hitting the track pedal. You can even control the volume of the vocal harmonies, effects etc. - resulting in a much more professional sounding performance. Well at least if you actually know how to sing. 😁
Thanks for sharing
Any chance of a video on this it sounds amazing?
So there is no delay when going from 1 memory to another? What if you have a lot going on in a memory? Is it seamless or do u have to wait while it loads?
@@tronlady1 hey, I dont use effects built into RC600, I use guitar sounds from my pedal board, so have never had to use the build in effects on the looper. Sorry, but right now, I am not at a stage where I can help with this, but perhaps in a while, as this is on my list. Thanks.
@@tronlady1 There‘s no delay. Think of it like this: Each memory track (wav) has an address. The RC’s player will play any track directly - regardless of it‘s location (address). The process is always the same: Play any one of up to seven tracks when required. Adjust the play parameters (volume, fx, etc.) in realtime. As this processing has it‘s own computing instances and memory locations, the length of a track or the number of tracks played simultaneously don‘t matter.
Good gracias
Hi I forgot how to do this function? Ok I recorded a track, and when I change the tempo the audio shifts to weird sound (Weirder than my sloppy playing) How/where do I toggle this?
I am pretty sure that you cannot change the tempo of the memory bank once you have recorded the loops on it. Having said that, I am pretty sure that you can assign particular pedal(s) to play the loop at a faster tempo. Now this is something I haven't tried, but try going into assign, and where you look for "Rhythm Vari", see if there is an option to change tempo. Hope it helps. Thanks for your comment.
John, great lesson. Do you have an Ebook of more songs instructions? I am looking for two songs for the Boss RC600: Tennessee Wiskey and Wither Shade Of Pale. Do you have that? Instructions in PDF are also allowed.
Hey Maya, I really appreciate your kind words in your encouraging comment, thank you so much. Well, I am a very new UA-camr so haven't got something like what you are asking. having said that, my musical training is in composition, and arranging. So if you need help with arranging songs, ether for RC600 or in general, I can definitely help. Let me know if that help or gives you a direction for your project. Also, your UA-cam handle suggests that you work in the area of web designing, if that is right, we could scratch each others back, as I need help with my website.
Great work thanx could you do a vid on your volume settings mic guitar acoustic rhythm etc inputs and out puts thanx again
Thank you for your comment, I am glad it helped you. As far as the volumes go, I will make a quick video and tag you. but I usually record with headphones, and gauge the volumes as I hear it, but then I can go into the mixer of 600 and tweak the volumes too. I will make a video and tag you.
Two comments: assign #1, #2,... doesn't mean they get assigned to the corresponding pedals (can't be, since there 16 assigns total). It's just a label for the assign. Second, if you push the knob and hold it while you scroll you can scroll by page, which is *much faster* than the normal scroll.
Thank you s much for sharing your knowledge Devilathor. Happy to learn, and thanks for the scrolling info, someone else also got back to me and shared that since I uploaded that video. Still thanks.
Very nice tutorial 👍🏼 But Let it perform others ;)
Thanks for liking the tutorial, but I didn't get the rest of your comment.
Is the "Doctor Who" scarf part of your sound? Are you in LA and if so, are folks "vibing" on your look?
Thanks pal for your comment and hopefully watching the video. I am not sure whether LA folks are vibing to the look or not but it defo lies in my comfort zone, and is becoming my style symbol.
Hello Thanks a lot for your video. Please make a video on how to copy a Recorded Rhythm from one Track to an other Track
Thank you, will do my best to get at it soon.
Many thanks for this very informative and easy to follow video. Before I reconfigure the settings on my 600 to single mode, may I ask a question .... Once the single mode has been established, can each individual track still be overdubbed as per normal?
You are very welcome my friend, glad you found it helpful. To answer your question, yes, you can over dub on an individual track or pedal. If you check the example in the video, you will see that first I have recorded the guitar on each pedal, then I overdubbed the bass on both. Later I recorded pads from keyboard (that part is not in the video though). Good luck.
The best I’ve seen on the 600, if I want to use an external drum machine do I plug into the 600 and assign it to a tract / button?
Thanks for the comment and encouraging words, I take it you want to record the drum machine. If thats is what you want to do; get Left and Right out from drum machine and put it into any L & R "In" of RC 600. If you don't have L & R out from drums, then you will have to take mono out from drum machine and put it in "L/Mono input" of RC 600. Good luck.
I spent months looking for a workstation like that with a pull-out tray. where the heck did you get it?
A pull out tray? What exactly are you referring to? I would love to answer your question, can you please be a little more specific, thank you.
Just got through watching your video, thank you so much! Can you switch to a complete different drum set ( like from rock to punk) if you keep the same tempo?
Hey Alfred, thank you so much for watching my video, and I hope it was helpful. As far as changing from one kit to another, I am not a 100% sure on that, as I have never tried doing it, but, having said that; on that step where you are looking for "Rhythm Vari" look for an option that might hint towards the possibility of changing from one drum kit to another, see if it helps.
I have gigs and recordings until the 25th of this month, once that is done, I will also look into it and, if I find it, I will make a video on that too.
Please don't forget to subscribe, thanks again.
Hey Alfred, here is a quick video on how you can assign different drum kit to a pedal: ua-cam.com/video/A4ynG-iyDas/v-deo.html
Great video. I'm having a problem that on the second track I can't have different amounts of tempos and there's always a blank before it finishes. What can it be? can anybody help me?
Thank you for your comment and I am happy that you liked the video. I am not sure why would you have blank space before the loop ends. The only reason I can think of is that you may not be recording the loop for all the beats of the bar, but it could be something else. As far as changing the tempo goes, I haven't tried it myself, but I am pretty sure that its do able you will have to assign that open in the system, and if you have already done that, it could be cause that blank. it would help if you make a video of your error and upload it on the Facebook community of RC600. good luck,
Ok man, thanks again, but it seems like it's an equipment bug, I found this in another video. If you could try and get back to me I would appreciate it.

Thanks for all you do to create excellent content: Two problems/questions: 1) Example: I have three tracks set up on single mode. The first two are each 2 measures. The third is 8 measures. When I trigger track 3, I want it to start from the beginning of the loop, but it never does. Is it necessary to create a template as demonstrated in the video on recording different loop lengths? Seems really cumbersome. 2) On the RC 300 , one could , in single mode, change tracks by triggering track 2, for example, and track 2 would only start playing when track 1 loop ended. Is that possible on the RC-600? Please advise. Cheers

Hey James.
So there is a known bug where on tracks 2&3, in single mode the RC-600 will add a bar and blink before playing the loop. There is a firmware update coming soon. That’s officially from Boss btw.
Regarding question 2, yes you just need to change the loop play option to end loop and the loop won’t start until the other one finishes. @@aqeeljohn-johnnyb3433
@@julianocarniato790will do my best, when dealing with the bugs, it's easier when it's at hand, still if I can do anything, I will get back to you. Good luck and do try the Facebook community, people there are very supportive.
Cam you record voices the same way ? On tthe top on the 2nd track and add other and other on the same one ? Cheers mate thanks the video !!
Hello tank you for watching and liking the video, yes you can layer voices on top of each other like an instrument.
I have done exactly as instructed but cannot get 6 loops... when selecting Track 1 both 1&2 flash.... any idea where I have gone wrong - thanks.
Sorted - messed around too much with all the settings! Started afresh and followed your instructions step by step - well done great Instructions.

@@aqeeljohn-johnnyb3433 Thanks for reply.. might have some more questions coming from RC300 and only on this for a few days! Going through all the parameters.pdf now..
@@africanrhythm Hey, I have never used rc300, but sure, do fire them away.
Cool instructions bro, thanx! I did picked up some new useful tips although I'm already familiar with the unit quite well. 😉👍
Maybe you also know how to adjust the rhythm (drum) volume when recording it and overdubbed with additional sounds like strings or blowing section...etc. on the same track. You see, I'm trying to record different drum sounds for each individual track (song part) for my song project and the tendency is the drum sounds lower than the other instruments when you switch off the rhythm knob. That's somehow unpleasant to work with and I'm still trying to find a solution for this problem. Do you have any advice? Thanks in advance.
hey bud, glad you picked up some stuff. As far as your question, off the top of my head, you can record on two line-in and twoXLR inputs, and then you can go into the mixer and adjust the levels of each recorded track. Sometimes you will have to record more than one instrument on one pedal, in that case, I rely on my ears, as I run the looper put put through my monitors and if the recorded loops are not the right level, I would redo them. There is a more sophisticated way of doing it, on which I will soon make a video.
@@aqeeljohn-johnnyb3433 I'm actually using the built-in drum sound of the rc 600 bro! I record a specific drum style into the track and overdub it with several other sounds, there's where the problem with the internal drum volume lies. But thanks anyway.
@@williepurificacion2474 Good luck pal
Thanks for these very clear explanations. It fit my needs BUT my first loop an intro is short 1 mea and can keep it playing .. the probelm is that the 2nd loop do not start at the beginnig .. I've tried SYNC on or off it's the same ... who can advice ?
Hey thanks for your comment; So herez the thing, RC-600 can only work with same measures, BUT I HAVE HEARD THAT WITH THE NEW FIRM WARE UPDATE, YOU CAN HAVE LOOPS OF DIFFERENT BARs, but I haven't tried it.
With the original firmware, you could do all loops of 4 bars or 8 bars or 12 or 16, BUT, as soon as you have one loop short by a bar, RC 600, can't recognize that change. So I keep all my loops of same bars, yes that means that I have to rearrange the songs accordingly.
Hope it clarifies your question.
Hi@@aqeeljohn-johnnyb3433 - So that was my problem! All the measures need to be the same length!? That's annoying. Have you since tried the new Firmware update to see if you can have loops of different lengths? (I have updated but it still seems the same - unless I am missing something in the settings?? - If you can help that would be great. Good video by the way and most helpful - cheers
Thank you so much@@rovertnallasnikwah, well I have struggled a lot in tries to have loops of different bar lengths. I have been told that with the new firmware update I can do that, but I haven't yet tried that. Once I figure it out, I will do a video on that too. Thank you for watching the video and I am glad it helped.
Does this unit have vocal correction?
I doubt it; it has many effects but I am 99.99999% sure there is not pitch corrector in the unit.
i have question on 1st process: when i chose pedal 2 it stills indicated Track 1,how do make it turn to track 2
let me get back to you on this, please give me some time to get to my rc-600. Thank you.
Pretty simple? Not!
Make sure individual tracks are set to single track
Then set track one to stop at end of track..that was track two will be flashing and won't record until track one finishes. Hope this answers your question
hey buddy check this video, i have tried to respond to your query. ua-cam.com/video/vtAHty5xMDg/v-deo.html
Nice job technically speaking.Your followers may appreciate your set up to get to single mode with mode one having six individual tracks..(what it appears you have anyway)
Start and stop Drum/ Rhythm assignment >> make a video Please
thank you for watchign the video and commenting my friend, I will as soon as I can. Please do subscribe.
I wish this was just a little less complicated so that I could buy one. It seems a little overwhelming.
I hear you pal, TBH yes you are right, at the same time, if you look at the comments, a lot of people have said that my explanation has been simple to follow. My suggestion would be to get one, try and follow the steps and i it still seems overwhelming, return the unit. At least you would have tired it. Still, I am not a Boss rep, so not trying to sell anything, but the unit is worth it.
Very good tutorial, easy to understand, thankyou! but why don't you sing in the right key? 😱😱
Thank you for appreciating my video; as far as the key or scale of the song goes, the original song is in C Major, thats what I did. Nonetheless, the key is something that could change based on singers range - so even if I had sung it in G or D, it would have been a okay. Thanks again for liking my work.
Oh Jesus how many loops do you need to play your sad breathy acoustic song ? Asking for a friend
Thank you for your comment my friend, I am unsure if its a genuine question or a mockery. Nonetheless, the number of loops is a performers personal and/or creative choice, it could just be one guitar, or a whole 70 pieces' orchestra, i.e. if the memory allows.
