Kudos! That’s really bold and courageous for you guys to tackle about this topic, as I still believe Filipinos are generally and traditionally docile and submissive. We hate confrontations but mind you the post encounter comments are full of expletives (#?$¥#% ka!). I see crab the mentality in a different light, it can be positive! Remember crabs don’t have hands/fingers and claws are used mainly food hunting and defense. In fact, they are helping each other to go up or bayanihan! Likewise, if somebody will point out your weight or your shape in public or social media or a tita that you don’t know per se that’s body shaming but if it’s your closed tita or relatives or friends body reminding. Be thankful as they maybe your fiercest critic but they can be your saving grace--they’re just checking on you, and asians in general ( talking about relatives ) can be scathingly truthful! Moreover, colourism unfortunately is still prevalent among asians and even in among africans. The legacy of colonialism and modern marketing of whitening products…It has permanently ingrained in our subconscious or unconscious minds for that matter! Moving forward, there’s always good and bad things in every culture…So keep The Good, modify The Bad and eliminate The Ugly! Trivia The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is a 1966 western spaghetti film, a cult classic starring Clint Eastwood.
Love this insight Ninong! 😊 we definitely realised after that there are way more positives to the Filipino culture, but just for this ep we spoke more on toxic traits. There is a lot more into the “history” of crab mentality too, which is also partly positive. We dive in deeper in our next episodes as we felt we only briefly touched on everything. So stay tuned po 😊
Just keep the good vibes going! You guys are doing great, you’re in the right direction! Discussing these topics can feel like your ‘naked’ as you said aptly, coz you never know what’s will be their reaction…If your intentions are good then mostly likely it’s good! Keep the good work Janine, Gem and Amir!
I enjoyed watching this episode. This topic is really something we, as Filipinos, should really talk more about how we need to correct this toxic mentality 😂. Btw, you guys inspired me to really build my podcast room quickly now, I procrastinate a lot 😂😂😂.
Thank you so much for your support Tito and for sharing your thoughts! It’s so great to hear everyone’s opinions and it’s so important to be having these discussions 😊 & totally agree with keeping the good, modifying the bad & eliminating the ugly!
Loved this episode guys! 🤍
