    Took me most of the day, but I managed to make a very presentable lighter cozy following these instructions. I learned a lot from starting over several times and I'm sure the next one will go much much faster.

    I love how simple you make the process, but could you please do a follow up video showing how you cut and seal off the ends? I can't seem to get it neat and ordered, and I'd like some tips. Thanks.

    I really wish you had written the pattern down all together. I liked the way you did it on the video, but I find it easier to have the pattern all together also.

    Great video. How did you close the bottom.

      Looking at the thumbnail, it seems like the knot can be closed up a bit on the bottom.

    Could this be used to make a 'knob' (to hold) on the end of a simple stick please, to make a walking stick handle?

  • @perlerangel2361

    Is the bottom of the lighter closed? it would be very helpful to see or have some more detail on how or what you do to the bottom of the wrap to make it look gathered/closed like that. love the way it looks and hope I can do this knot!

    • @Paracordguild
      @Paracordguild  8 років тому

      Hey there!
      Closing the knot on the bottom is optional. I like the closed look so I tighten it like that. Basically the pineapple knot will form like that when you tighten it, just make sure you slide the knot a bit over the lighter to allow it to close up.
      I hope that helps/makes sense!

      Be sure to let me know if you have any issues with making this wrap. I hope I presented it well enough, but you never know till people try it out!

      Paracord guild could you put this on a knife handle

    • @jamesthe-doctor8981
      @jamesthe-doctor8981 7 років тому

      kole yandell yes, you should be able to put just about any round knot on any open-ended handle. Some examples of round knots are: turks head, pineapple, gaucho, etc. However, unless the handle of the knife you want to cover is the same combination of length and circumference are the same as this lighter, you'll have to compensate for that.

    A very fine tutorial my friend. If you could answer a couple of question I would be most appreciative. Is it possible to to do this wrap with the pineapple accent in between two like colors? Also thinking of doing this on a longer project. Would I just add and additional set of X’s on the right side in the initial pass around? Thank you for your time and effort in making these tutorials. I pray for you and yours during these troubling times.

    • @Paracordguild
      @Paracordguild  4 роки тому

      Hey Jeff!
      Indeed, doing more "X" shapes will result in a longer wrap. Could you rephrase the part about the pineapple knot accent, not sure if I am picturing it correctly.
      Stay healthy!

      @@Paracordguild Hey Mark, I was trying to see if it was possible to do this wrap as a 3 pass version but with the pineapple accent? Or another way to say it: Is it possible to do the pineapple pattern with 3 differing colors?
      Perhaps I'm overthinking it. I guess I could just use the Turks head handle wrap that you demonstrated on the axe handle.
      Maybe the pineapple pattern would only work with 2 colors.
      Jeff

    • @Paracordguild

      Ahh, now I get it :).
      Yeah it is entirely possible to make such a wrap in 3 colors. If you want I can play around with the design and make a 3 color version of the lighter wrap.
      What are you planning to wrap with the longer wrap?

      @@Paracordguild Hey Mark, My son would like to make a walking stick with a handle wrap. He said here really liked the pineapple wrap the best. But would like 3 colors. I can't picture that in my mind. Would I just add Xs to initial setup and then follow the second color thru with a 3rd color? Approximate length of wrap would 12 inches. Thanks again, Jeff

    Great vid & knot, tied 1 for a friend. Noticed Tom Hall’s version is a bit different in that the first turn around goes over all initial wraps in one step. Don’t understand why both work, any thoughts?
    Really enjoy your vids, thanks for taking the time to share your expertise.

    • @matthewtaggart3945
      @matthewtaggart3945 8 років тому +2

      People have tried asking this question in every video that Mark uses that lacing needle in. He's usually very responsive to comments but completely ignores any questions about that lacing needle for some strange and annoying reason. No clue why he won't respond and give any detail about it. It must be too special for us "lay people".

      It's nothing special, in fact you can get them at tandy leather for under 3.00. In the leather world we call them a perma lok needle, not a lacing fid

    • @matthewtaggart3945
      @matthewtaggart3945 8 років тому +1

      Yeah I have a few lacing needles. A couple from Tandy Leather even. But I have yet to ever see one similar to what Mark uses. Long, flat and thin with what looks like threads to screw your cord into. All of the ones I've been able to find are long and cylindrical or some have a fatter round end or a flat end but the flat end is still wider than the rest of the needle. Do you have any idea where one could find a long, flat and thin one with threads similar to what Mark uses?

    • @jamesthe-doctor8981
      @jamesthe-doctor8981 7 років тому

      Matthew Taggart I've looked everywhere and haven't been able to find a fid or "lacing needle" like Mark's, either, so I'm going to have to make one someday when I can get around to it. Anyone can do it, you just need a pencil torch or mini torch from Harbor Freight, a hammer, and a glass of water. You'll also need a pair of tongs or pliers to handle the hot needle.
      Dim the lights, fire up the torch, and heat about half of the tip side of the needle until it glows brighter than a dull red, but not bright cherry red...then immediately drop it into the water to quench it. This anneals (softens) the brass to where you can hammer it flat. It will be cool enough to pick up with your fingers immediately. It doesn't have to look perfect after you've hammered it because you can shape it with sandpaper or a Dremel tool, or grinder. You'll want to at least sand the black soot that will likely form on the surface.
      Now, the brass has been softened, but not enough to affect it's uses as a fid or lacing needle, but if you want to re-harden it, fire up your torch again and heat it to the same red color, then let it cool on its own without quenching it in water. It will now be harder again.

    This one is for a refillable lighter? A wrap that cannot easily be switched from lighter to lighter? Thanks, Marko!

      The wrap can be tightened without the covered bottom if desired. I have tightened mine so that I can slip it off.
      All problems solved, mission accomplished.
