Hello, I have a bottle of some Abaddon Black. Along with other colors: Fulgrim Pink, Leadbelcher, Druchii Violet, Nuln Oil. I wanted to paint some Kriegs and make their coats a black color, leaning towards a darker shade, whilst making armored parts a metallic. The models are to be primed with White Scar. Given the colors, are these sufficient to mix for Method #3? If so, which ones are recommended?
Can you help me please? I want to do the first one but i can't do the drybrush because i'd ruin the close areas that i already painted, different method to achieve the same result?
I absolutely can, but maybe not in the way you think, you don't ned to change the paints, but just use masking tape! Make sure the contrast stage has dried fully, and take the initial stickyness from the tape by putting it on clothing first, you can also spray varnish the mini to protect it (optional).
@@ArtisOpus wow Thank you! I never tried, basically cutting the tape with a cutter and remove some of the initial stickyness then apply it on the parts surrounding the clothing?
@@ArtisOpus they seem to have a certain gel as a medium, it seems to me that it would be the perfect marriage between that paint and your brushes, but I would really appreciate your opinion before I go on a shopping spree. hey Byron Another great video.... quick question which i am sure you have probably been asked a few times already in the past but which 4 Artis Opus brushes would you say are a must have for miniature painting?
Hey Geoff thanks so much! Series D - M and XL; Series S - 3 then whichever is your preferred detail brush (00 M/S). I also love the size 5. Hope that helps you, if you have any other questions we're here for you.😊
@@ArtisOpus Thanks for the info mate... looking to get some Artis Brushes as my W&N S7 are just shocking at the moment ... not keeping point and fraying badly ... i guess i would also need the dampening pad too?... sorry to bother you but have you done a video on brush care? it is something that i have learnt the hard way but it would be interesting for me to see how a professional looks after their brushes. Again many many thanks for the info dude.
You don't Tine :), prime it and start again! I like working over black, personally. It can also be very useful to leave your old paint there to discover new combinations and techniques etc, you'll see a lot of mine have plenty of 'history' on them
What is that thing you dip your drybrush into now and then? I am sure you say it a lot but for some reason I cant recall. Need to get one for myself I imagine to aid me with dry brushing, but I am curious to what it actually does and provides to my drybrushes.
It's a dampening pad. They sell them as part of their range. It adds a tiny, controllable amount of moisture to the brush to improve paint flow and helps prevent chalky streaking. It's the dry drybrush equivalent of thinning your paints.
@@jonathankahn3005 sorry, don't know about different brands. I haven't personally used one. I imagine you could go cheap with an office one - they use them so you don't have to lick your finger if flicking through paper. If you want to go best, I imagine the Artis Opus ones would be a good call as their whole range was specifically designed for this type of painting. I'm personally going to get one of theirs, not only because I want some bushes and a texture pallet too, but as support for these awesome videos.
These were very common at the post office about 20 or 30 years ago and you could buy them at every office supply store back then. Think they dissapeared about the same time people stopped using letters...
This is awesome! I can’t tell from the video though, is the blue/black contrast paint done on all of them and then they different finishes or is it only on the first? :)
Off topic but I gotta say love love your guides, your pruducts so much.. I have a quick question or a guide tip for something I really have seen a lack off or a few vids off. Would u do able to do more or some skin tones on miniature but more as a colored skin tones? Like dark skin/ African American tone, tanned skin tone.. Idk how to say with out offending someone which am Not trying to... Thank you for all your vids amazing work.
I've been getting a lot of requests for this bud, I need to go and do some research, because I suck at them... as I did with caucasian flesh, before I discovered not using flesh colours, and using brown-bone :)
Buy a cheap (and I mean cheap!) set of make-up brushes (I bought mine off Amazon), as you'll have a selection to choose from and they last for ages, if you look after them; hope that helps? ;)
How about a 3 ways to do Red? :) I dunno if priming with different base colors would be the main difference or if 3 different highlights would be the thing

YOOUUU'RE SOOOO WELCOMEE! 😊❤ Mixing a snow effect or adding it at the end to make sure it doesn't turn into brown mud is the way that I'd approach it. Let us know if you have any more questions!
I started testing the first method on some spare sprue etc, but the leviadon blue gave NO colour over black at all, is the difference going to be more noticeable when there are a cloak’s recesses involved, or is it entirely for texture/pattern?

Hello, I have a bottle of some Abaddon Black. Along with other colors: Fulgrim Pink, Leadbelcher, Druchii Violet, Nuln Oil. I wanted to paint some Kriegs and make their coats a black color, leaning towards a darker shade, whilst making armored parts a metallic. The models are to be primed with White Scar. Given the colors, are these sufficient to mix for Method #3? If so, which ones are recommended?
My suggestion for a video, chaos knights or chaos warriors
I will be working on coloured metallics very soon. There's a good chance these will feature. Thank you for the suggestion😊
well that definetly looks better that what I have done thanks
😊You're so welcome bud! Thank you for watching and supporting
Two questions: Can I use the same to paint Raffia? how can I paint multitudes of raffia or leather at once?
Hi mate! I am just got interested into painting miniatures. I was wondering what is that base you use in that video, I thought to acquire it.
Primer? Chaos black generally
@@ArtisOpus O sorry! I mean the texture palette where you mixed the colours. I liked the black and I want to buy one that is similar
Loving the cloth tutorials, really helpful.
Glad you thinks so! Thank you for watching Martin 😁
I was wondering if you have checked out Mig's new drybrush paints yet ? seems they could go perfect hand in hand with your drybrushes?
I didn't even know they existed. I will have to check them out - Mig isn't too easy to get hold of in the UK, unfortunately 😊
@@ArtisOpus they seem to have a certain gel as a medium, it seems to me that it would be the perfect marriage between that paint and your brushes, but I would really appreciate your opinion before I go on a shopping spree. Michigan toy soldier has an interesting video on it ua-cam.com/video/KNNKrDmIC2o/v-deo.html
So good
How about doing something with the color yellow.
We’ve done 3 ways to paint yellow and some Terrain (check our library), but otherwise the colour has been a bit neglected. We’ll make sure to consider this for future content 😊
Happy holidays 🎄❤️🌟
Amazing video. I will definitely use this for my nightgoblins 👌
hey Byron Another great video.... quick question which i am sure you have probably been asked a few times already in the past but which 4 Artis Opus brushes would you say are a must have for miniature painting?
Again many many thanks for the info dude.
great technieks :) will try them out ! got one question ! My pallet and brushes arrived (yeay ! ) , how do you clean your pallet ?
You don't Tine :), prime it and start again! I like working over black, personally.
It can also be very useful to leave your old paint there to discover new combinations and techniques etc, you'll see a lot of mine have plenty of 'history' on them
@@ArtisOpus Thx !!! :)
@@Alf_Hairy-arse Ah, awesome - Any specific brand better than others or is it one works for all?
@@Anecron1 you can still get them. We used them at my old work. You're probably right they're not too common though.
i made nemesis from re3 from clay and this helped me with painting his garbage bag outfit, thanks
How do you paint black flames
Like these videos. Now just to use this for armor plates...
Black armour plates do look great!
This is awesome! I can’t tell from the video though, is the blue/black contrast paint done on all of them and then they different finishes or is it only on the first? :)
I think I missed it, what is the powder you have in that glass pot?
Oh, I see now that it is a sponge. My bad :P
Yeah mate, it's a dampening pad, we use it to add moisture to the painting process :)
I've been getting a lot of requests for this bud, I need to go and do some research, because I suck at them... as I did with caucasian flesh, before I discovered not using flesh colours, and using brown-bone :)
hello, what kind of brush are you using? It looks like facial makeup, I'm looking for that type of brush, can you help me? Thank you
Buy a cheap (and I mean cheap!) set of make-up brushes (I bought mine off Amazon), as you'll have a selection to choose from and they last for ages, if you look after them; hope that helps? ;)
What models are these?
Stormcast eternal sequitors
@@ArtisOpussweet, thanks
How about a 3 ways to do Red? :) I dunno if priming with different base colors would be the main difference or if 3 different highlights would be the thing
Solid Idea dude, red's a very important colour in mini painting so often, my default is mephiston, but I've been pointed at a new brand to try, either way it'd be useful for viewers"!
Hey this is awesome! Question though: how did you do the silver armor?
Thanks, buddy! They've just been drybrushed with Vallejo game air silver. Check out our metallics video for more info😊
YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS THE THING IVE ALWAYS WANTED WEATHERING ON FEET AND CLOAKS PEOPLE AWLAYS DO IT ON A MARINE I WANNA SEE IT DIFFERANT METERIALS AND MODELS AND A MORE IN DEPTH EXPLANATION THANK YOUUUUU , what about ice dirty effects any ideas you've give me the basic tools and techniques to work with so gonna mess about once again looks amazing and THANK YOUUUUUUU!!!!!
YOOUUU'RE SOOOO WELCOMEE! 😊❤ Mixing a snow effect or adding it at the end to make sure it doesn't turn into brown mud is the way that I'd approach it. Let us know if you have any more questions!
@@ArtisOpus what colors would you have in mind i was thinking fenrisian grey and a white but im not sure
What is that dust you use? Is that part of the trick for the texture, right? :D
Hey dude, do you mean the weathering, or the dampening pad? :)
I started testing the first method on some spare sprue etc, but the leviadon blue gave NO colour over black at all, is the difference going to be more noticeable when there are a cloak’s recesses involved, or is it entirely for texture/pattern?
The red skin on a bloodthirster would be awesome
You're going to get Bloodthirster Skin very soon Sean, I can't guarantee it will be red though :D
@@ArtisOpus excellent I've just got skarbrand and was looking for ideas
Sorry stupid questions ⁉️
What pallet are you using?
Omg the ads are killing me, but thanks for a great vid!
Now my black armored D.A can have black robes that look good.
Absolutely dude, over an entire army this could look great😊You can share your progress with us on socials
