Great to see & hear you again. The video is very informative & thought provoking. I'm an old manufacturing guy so your approach is familiar to me. Unless you convince me otherwise, I'm going to have a single use approach separating liquid & solids. If everyday disposal is not possible, I'll store the "product" in an air tight container on the bumper rack until.
I look forward to your future videos.

Sounds like a good plan although I can't remember a time when I needed an airtight container to store. The liquid container is an airtight fuel tank with no vent. Small enough to put in a shopping bag, take into a public restroom, and empty. I handle the solids like I did when raising children in diapers.
      We know the drill.
Take what you know and transfer it to the current project.
That's why I did the little section on people becoming habituated.
We know from experience we are continually presented with something that doesn't conveniently fall into place. In that environment, we have become adept at observing, developing a plan, executing, and tracking results.
What I do here is just make that information available to people so they have the benefit of it to make informed decisions for themself.
I've often said I'm a designer but I also manufacture many of the things I design or parts within the design. But I could on and on about the creative process.
Like I said at the outset... a good plan.
      Thank you for commenting.

You and I are on the same page. I've been thinking that when I do get my Roadtrek I want to do the same thing or, at least, something on the same order. Thanks for your posting

@@RoadtrekRich main reason I sold my roadtrek was dealing with the tanks. Bought a cassette toilet and use recycled bags for #2, much easier. Happy new year Rich!

Hey Rich, I did exactly the same on my ‘90 Popular. Gave away my toilet, pipes and tanks to a young feller that was converting a cargo trailer into a camper. I do not miss them. Happy New Year to you.

      Happy New Year.
Yup. I suspect any of us that have been doing this for a while figured this out.
I hope the real takeaway is the thought process that can be universally applied.

Hi Rich. In part due to watching your channel, I acquired a 2001 Dodge Roadtrek Popular 2 years ago. Life circumstances have only allowed me limited use until now. I am seriously thinking of doing exactly what you did, and install a custom "dry toilet" solution, so I never have to deal with the black water tank, its dumping, hauling tht water weight etc. I'll be looking again at your earlier videos outlining your measurements, design and construction of your solution. With hindsight, are there any things you would change of your original design and construction, before I embark on my own project, which will be largely based on your own excellent design and thought process? Thank you.

When I design something like this, a "good" design outcome is when I don't give it another thought.
While this isn't perfect, and anatomically, you will have to address those differences, I really haven't found any glaring deficiencies that would entail me "re-designing" what I made.
The main thing is to size the thing to the space YOU have. One thing I did, that may not be in the video, is build a small foot stool to make sitting more natural. You might be able to lower the overall height of the box, depending on the containers you use inside and eliminate the need. Not a big deal. I just store it on top of the toilet when not in use.
Yeah, it has paid for itself many times over in dump fees and given me peace of mind, especially these days when our circumstances go from expected to unexpected.

@@RoadtrekRich Thanks for the response Rich. My Roadtrek should have very similar dimensions to yours as it's very similar vintage. It's currently covered up for the winter and I'll get at the project in a few weeks, at which time I'll double check the space in mine. Good to hear about the height issue and natural sitting. For me it's more doing away with the unpleasant issues of dumping the blackwater tank, and having a simpler and easier approach to this biological need, that drives me to your kind of solution. The only thing I'll need to ponder is how to accommodate female anatomy in the collection of urine, as I have a girlfriend who will likely accompany me on some of my trips.
Keep sharing your ideas which give me (and a lot of other readers) motivation to do some useful modifications to my otherwise very stock 2001 Dodge Roadtrek (eventually, solar panels etc.).

Okay so if I'm understanding this correctly you're just pooping and peeing in bags that are in a toilet type thing you have in the roadtrek.
Okay my question to you is, you would need a short-term storage of that waste. So I'm assuming you gather the top of the bags and tie them off tightly and put them somewhere short-term and then throw them in the freaking garbage at the next convenient time. Or in the woods if they're biodegradable. Am I assuming this correctly? And where are you putting the (used) bags that you're using short term? Do you have a box that you're using?

      @McgarickWAstate
Yup. Just a glorified poop in a bag pee in a bottle.
If in an urban setting, solids are gone as soon as I stop and get out of the van...nearest receptacle... the equivalent of a baby diaper.
In the wild, buried and poured out.
The liquid equates to a dog on a leash only I'm a little more selective.
