  • This video is about 2 things. Solving the effect the annoying ticking sound has on me.
And, how the solution serves as an example of "out of the box thinking" I find very useful in solving a variety of problems or challenges.
It works. Give it a try.

Hey Rich so glad you found something that works! Last nite I was thinking about a wave machine and coating the outside of the pump with a sound dampening material, even like the plasti-dip they use for tool handles
But you already did it with a USB speaker and a towel!
    Heheh
    Excellent work!!

The wave machine is probably all you need.
My neighbor did the sound systems in all kinds of buildings. When I told him what I had done, he laughed and said "yeah, it worked didn't it"
He said the "official" term for it is "sound masking".
So I wasn't too far off calling it camouflage.
      Hiding one sound behind another.
They did it a lot in buildings with lots of cubicles with people talking on phones or conversing with someone in their cube.
Restaurants too. All kinds of places where the acoustics of the building or the activity inside create unwanted "noise".
That's where the music in elevators and shopping centers got started, too, I bet.
So we're just cutting and pasting an old tool and applying it to solve a different problem.

@RoadtrekRich you made me think of it with your man in the submarine. Started me thinking about noise canceling technology and then to those machines ppl use to help sleep.
      Glad you solved it cheers!!

Actually, the “Ticking Noise “ would be my “Rain on a tin roof “ it didn’t sound that bad to me …I could sleep soundly through it.

Well done...give yourself a pat on the back for "thinking outside the box".
While videos like this problem of the ticking noise is nice to "solve", I try to embed something in the videos to demonstrate how something like out-of-the-box thinking can be applied to all sorts of scenarios.
Sometimes it's good for us to reach an impasse, and "hit the wall"...that way we know we have narrowed our thinking. We've entered an echo chamber. Then we can take steps to expose ourselves to other possibilities.

Things have a way of getting to where they need to be, sometimes, even in spite of us.
Today was sunny, I anticipated enjoying being outdoors. I had taken the cover of the house battery in the van months ago.
I determined to put it back in place today, a 5-minute job.
I moved things, lifted up the bed cushion to gain access to the battery compartment, and was met with badly corroded battery terminals with the clamps literally seized onto the terminals.
Yes, I DID spend much of the day "outside", inside the Roadtrek.
About 4 and a half hours later, after cleaning things up and replacing the corroded parts, I finally put that cover back over the battery compartment.
Sometimes what we have envisioned isn't exactly what takes place.
It was a good reminder to me that there is a whole lot going on that I am completely unaware of.
