This is pedantic a little bit but... I wish people wouldn't separate "working class" from "have a college degree". Most of the people I went to college with have working class jobs. Those two groups are not distinct anymore, and the working class people with thousands of dollars in debt because that degree turned out to be worthless in a difficult job economy are just as angry. I like what this guy is saying, but I wish he didn't feel like he had to disagree so often on the framing. It's okay to say the Democrats messed up. It's actually really important to say that. Edit because this took off. I know most Republican voters are not college educated. My argument is that we need to ignore them and instead look at the huge margin of people who do not vote at all. That group is always overlooked and it is not one that has the same distinction. Working class people often do not bother voting at all.
I see what you are saying, but the Dems lost working class without degree voters. They didn't really lose college educated working class. They need a way to talk to those people. College loan forgiveness is great, but that was only affecting one section of the working class. I am not saying this guy was picking the best way to say it, but the Dems have already been talking to you and the people you went to college with.
So when is Stewart going to start calling out Republicans for the even greater hatred and vitriol they gave Bernie? Notice how Stewart softballs or ignores anything Repugs do nowadays, but only can criticize Democtrats.

Allowing state politicians to draw district line should NEVER happen. Use an independent commission, like many blue states do...however, is NOT done in red states.
@Bat_Boy Allowing a system where drawing lines makes a difference should NEVER happen. It's supposed to measure the will of the people, so line on a map should never affect outcomes. Any district based first past the post systems leads to a two party state. Any two party system leads to corruption. People in the US should start a new party with the single goal of fixing democracy, nothing else. Once democracy is fixed you can start fixing all the other issues, but this one is the root cause and needs to be fixed first.
California has an independent commission. Democrats get 67% of the vote and 85% of Representatives. Gerrymandering isn't always a bad thing. In First Passed The Post systems it is the only way to get a representative legislature.
bernie can't conquer in '28 due to ageism. there are many others - but they get buried too often - Dems need to become shameless about common indiscretions and stop trying to be Saints.
Wikler seems like the obvious choice of anyone that's put their hat in the ring. Hopefully the Dems are smart enough to make him chair and listen to him.
This man will get squashed just like Bernie did. Corporate democrats will try every trick in the book to keep him down, their lucrative checks rely on it happening.
I hope we all know that it doesn't matter who is in the 'top job' because this is a systemic problem -- greed. We have allowed many of our economic sectors, to take advantage of the American people. It's disgusting and frightening for the future of our country. My husband and I will be retiring in the next two years in another country. We are absolutely worried that SSI will no longer be funded. we'll have to rely on his pension, a 403 (b) and a very prolific lnvestment account with my Tracy Britt Cool Consulting my FA. I work at a computer all day, make 6 figures, have to budget to make my student loan payments from month to month and definitely FEEL like a working-class citizen.
We are the true middle class right now, I think. Which IS still working class, we are just slightly better off than "poor." I'm still paying off my student loans from 12 years ago, make just under six figures, and I feel I'm doing alright now. But I've been poor all my adult life and lived paycheck to paycheck until just last year, so I still can't afford a house without more crippling debt and a terrible interest rate, still don't have dividends or a retirement fund or whatever... I'm college educated, but I feel like I've only just begun to keep my head above the ocean water in this crippling economy. So I get it, and I agree with you. We just need to admit that we are slightly better off and got LUCKY in the rigged system that is our workforce/economy, but we do still feel that we are in the same boat as the working class. As someone who genuinely came from it up until recently, I absolutely feel that way. Thanks for making this argument... We are a gray area of voters that needs to be reached by our representatives!

"We want to be accountable for what people want".......Well, we want our freedom of speech, informed consent, debates about public policy and no vaccine mandates. We want a government free of corruption, not the corporate control of our agencies that we currently have. The Democratic party was not stepping up to the plate for these issues. Kamala said she wanted more censorship, and seemed to think "more of the same" is what people were wanting. Nope. We want change. I have always been a democrat but am tired of the government over reach. Wake up Ben!
Oh, c'mon, he's a career Democrat. He's a "nice guy" for as long as he has no incentives otherwise. The minute he starts appearing on the MSNBCs and CNN on a regular basis, he's going to turn just like every other before him. That military-industrial complex/oil/pharmaceutical money is just too much and too sweet. Bernie was the one that got closest, and he was shot down in the back by the same people he was trying to help. The DNC has no reason to exist any more
It was many years later when I realized I had seen Bernie Sanders before 2016, because he appeared on the Daily Show (2011 according to my research, though I can’t find the clip) I remember a guy who was a self proclaimed socialist who made that “unpalatable” label make a ton of sense to me, at least the way he explained it. I get a similar vibe from this Ben Wickler guy, He seems ahead of the curve. I hope the Dems make the correct choice for once.
I think the next generation of Democratic leadership needs to be led by people who are able to talk “on the cuff,” are quick on their feet, and don’t resort to memorized phrases and platitudes (like the “corporatists” as John said). I truly wanted Kamala to win and have a ton of respect for her, but the “rehearsed” rhetoric sank her campaign. There was a surge of energy for her at first, but it plateaued because people realized that she kept repeating the same speech, and every interviewer asked different questions but her answers were always the same rehearsed lines. It was an enormous missed opportunity not to sit with Theo Von and Rogan. Or maybe it wasn’t because her team knew she couldn’t handle going “off script” for 3 hours. We need political leadership who aren’t afraid to go on these podcasts and can talk like normal human beings. Although the “bro podcast” sphere leans right, a lot of those folks are either moderate or apolitical. So many persuadable voters that they missed (and yes if you want to be president of the entire country, you need to meet voters where they are). It’s really less about ideology (most democrats believe in basically the same things anyway), but more about how articulate, nimble, and persuasive of a speaker one is. Biden was an utter disaster in that sense and Kamala won most of the coalition back, but let’s be honest here, she wasn’t persuading any new people.
I like what this guy is saying!!! We need to get lobbyists out of government!!! Just like math, you need to show your work!! And put this guy with Bernie!!!
Let’s see… R’s are taking away reproductive rights, religious freedom, the right to join a union, taxing the middle class out of existence, the right to peacefully assemble, the right to decie what your children can read… and I’m sure I’ve missed several more. The D’s are behind restoring ALL of these. Harris offered fair taxation, housing assistance, and the continuation of Biden’s fight against inflation. I’m sure I’ve missed a whole lot more. The two parties couldn’t be any more different. But, If Gaza is your issue, you vote for the candidate that will support your right to protest and not the guy who’s going to send the Army after you.
Yeah, it's not about nations; nations are (currently at least) a secondary power to wealth. Wealthy oligarchs run the US, Israel, Russia, & even China.
Politicians spend more time and effort fighting each other then they do fighting for what's best for the country. There's no way everything is totally polar opposite...it's power and money not for constituents.

The only potential future chair that I've seen real promise in so far, hope he gets it!
Ben is going to be a great asset for us nationally. He has done a great job here in Wisconsin. He needs to get the support necessary to implement the changes that are necessary to win.
As a Wisconsinite, I’m such a fan of Ben Wikler and so excited to see him on the show!!
Allowing state politicians to draw district line should NEVER happen. Use an independent commission, like many blue states do...however, is NOT done in red states.
Yeah Illinois didn’t draw any lines 😜
@@michaeldwyer977 right 😂
@Bat_Boy Allowing a system where drawing lines makes a difference should NEVER happen.
Yes like super majority Democrat states do 😂 where free elections happen without voter id 😂
Why do I feel like I’ve heard all of this before?
Any one out there ever hear of a guy named BERNIE SANDERS?
YOU SHOULD HAVE LISTENED!!!
ya calm down 😭
bernie can't conquer in '28 due to ageism. there are many others - but they get buried too often - Dems need to become shameless about common indiscretions and stop trying to be Saints.
💯
I'll catch the playback.
He should’ve been president
Wikler seems like the obvious choice of anyone that's put their hat in the ring. Hopefully the Dems are smart enough to make him chair and listen to him.
Ken Martin is great, too.
Clearly, he's a logical choice. But we know Democrat leadership often like to make choices that lack common sense.
This man will get squashed just like Bernie did. Corporate democrats will try every trick in the book to keep him down, their lucrative checks rely on it happening.
there not
@@ItsJustDan1he’s from my home state of Minnesota he’s great too
I hope we all know that it doesn't matter who is in the 'top job' because this is a systemic problem -- greed. Our national debt is bloating and expanding every month. Our government needs to get spending under control and cut the federal budget.
I went from no money to lnvest with to busting my A** off on Uber eats for four months to raise about $20k to start trading with Tracy Britt Cool Consulting. I am at $128k right now and LOVING that you have to bring this up here
How can i reach this Tracy Britt Cool Consulting, if you don't mind me asking? I've known her by her reputation at Berkshire Hathaway
You can glance her name up on the internet .she's renowned and has quite a following. So it shouldn't be a hassle finding her Consulting page
Great share! Out of curiosity, I searched Tracy Britt Cool Consulting online, found her consulting page ranked at the top, and scheduled a call session. I've read many reviews about advisors, but none seem as impressive as hers.
Tracy Britt Cool Consulting has really set the standard for others to follow, we love her here in Canada 🇨🇦 as she has been really helpful and changed lots of life's
I work at a computer all day, make 6 figures, have to budget to make my student loan payments from month to month and definitely FEEL like a working-class citizen.
You arn't.
YOU GO, WIKLER !!! LOVE YOU & YOUR ENERGY !!
He is what the Democratic Party truly needs to reinvigorate itself. Progressive Midwest Dems are the answer

That was so much better than I thought it could be. Thanks.
"Pepper Jack in the cheese curds," is as Wisconsin as you can get when it comes to spicy. Charlie Berens would agree.

Remember when Dems called Stewart racist for saying covid came from China? Pepperidge farm Remembers.
Seems like the exact kind of guy we need leading the party
Hearing Wikler running for chair I hope he wins. I think the DNC will fear him and do some BS, but I hope the best!
The party does not say what I believe, why am I still here after 60 years?
Jon is absolutely correct! Love his enthusiasm and common sense approach.
All elected officials regardless of party need to remember they are there to work for the people. Results, speak louder than words.
Wisconsin indigenous person here; Wikler’s strategy included the first time native voters were broadly represented in the message outreach. Get him to the national stage NOW.
Wow! I like this guy! A lot!
Holy smokes, definitely didn't have "seeing a guy I went to high school with on the Daily Show" on my bingo card this year...
I've never heard of this guy before this video, but I like him a lot.
This guy is awesome. Wow. Please make him DNC Chair.
Lil libe re al weasel fits the mold
@@scottwood4055 lying donald trump fascist.
He’s a wannabe establishment weasel! Stop being naive!
This guy is so lame and out of touch. He wouldn’t even agree that the democrats messaging isn’t working.
Minor FYI: to speak "on the cuff", is to refer to notes on one's cuff; to speak "off the cuff", is to speak unscripted.
Take money out of politics that’s how the Americans of all backgrounds are able to stand tall.
Love this guy! We need him in that position!

That's a bad thing. Walz is creepy and a communist
So cool to see this but we still need him here in Wisconsin.
There are no longer 2 parties. Now, it's just 1 big party beholden to their corporate overlords.
Israel you mean...
@@yogeshkmrful not just Israel, saudi arabia, other countries but corporations and the people that run them.
Uhhh... as a lifelong Dem it's pretty clear that Dems became the party of Big Corporations...
So he’s 1:1 helping spread the message Bernie has been pushing for decades.
And I am all for it. I hope he can become dnc chair.
