      This is how it's always been. The problem is that the current generation of gamers are mainly metaslaves that don't want to account for personal skill-level (perhaps ironically, given how ego is so intrinsically tied to gaming these days). METAslave players prefer when a weapon compensates for skill level and gamesense, which in turn builds bad overall habits. A player with good footwork, timing, and command of the character's abilities can stay alive and win _regardless_ of the weapon they have equipped, because they understand how to use it within the limitations of its design and stats, because they're a better player.
      There are of course exceptions (sometimes devs miss the mark in equipment design or stats), but by and large, if you spend your time honing your positioning and gamesense, you'll open so many more doors for your flexible enjoyment of a game. Whether SM2, Helldivers 2, or pick-your-shooter. Dont be afraid to use off-meta stuff long enough to get good with it. It feels good, and it's also a fun, low-key flex to bring overlooked gear to the winning podium, because then you KNOW that player's good when they didn't need the META handicap to win.

      @@Trepanation21 It has less to do with being a metaslave and more to do with some weapons being absolute ass until you're level 20+ and have your weapon pumped up to Relic tier. It takes time to level things up in this game which is why _some_ weapons that people thought were weak are starting to shine.

    So, Trick I've been using as a Heavy main. Use your Heavy stance to move the heat gauge to about 75% then switch to your hip fire since it holds heat at current level. this gives great add clear and mobility. Yes the bloom is huge, but against a crowd it doesn't matter. It also allows consistent use of the damage buff perk and movement while firing. Its allowed me to push back against the front line, or fall back while still chipping away at their numbers.

    Way I describe the Heavy weapons to friends getting into the game:
    Melta - anti swarm, it murks the little guys and stuns everything smaller then bosses, but has issues actually killing Majors or up though it can stagger lock groups of them to death if it has to. You’re actually better off pulling out a plasma pistol to dps bosses in Ruthless then using this. Hands down the best gun in lower difficulties where even boss enemies lack durability.
    Plasma - Heavy killer. Deals gut busting levels of damage to single targets with just enough splash to assist with swarm control. Absolutely destroys bosses of any sort.
    Bolter - Pretty good at everything. Mostly shines in drawn out fights where its constant dps output begins to shine. Handles single targets and swarm equally well.

    Give the Tactical's Heavy Bolt Rifle a serious try using the same mindset as with this. With Kraken rounds it tears through swarms and can be burst fired (usually 5ish rounds before letting the bloom drop back to neutral) at heads to take out majoris surprisingly fast, but you need to land those headshots. I found it really weak like everyone else when spray and praying, but using this strategy it's actually not awful, at least usable.

      heavy boly rifle i've found success with in terms of you can just shoot shoot parry, shoot shooot parry. With recent updates, you should not be getting rekt by swarms by just parrying the little guys at the right time. But a lot of randoms i end up grouped with get rekt by swams cause all they do is swing swing swing. even some bulwarks i've seen. like dude, power stance light attack into gunstrike will literally make you god, how r u dying to a bunch of gaunts.

      @@Guo1234bob Agreed. I like to use the perk that increases ranged damage after a gunstrike and slap a burst in to the Elite's face afterwards, combined with Auspex scan on parry, as well as the weapon perks that boost headshot damage, it puts in work like this. I open by clearing out as many Minoris as I can before engaging. That's the thing about the Heavy Bolt Rifle...it doesn't do any one thing exceptionally, but it's very versatile. Fits quite well with the Tactical's "Jack of all trades" Identity

    Fun 40k fact ; The Infernus Heavy Bolter is a pattern of heavy bolter used by the Deathwatch. These weapons are mag-clamped with rare suspensor discs that reduce the weapon's weight considerably. It is also equipped with a Heavy Flamer. ; - “My Heavy Bolter has seen nearly as many worlds as I have. @sreggad 10 днів тому +1

      @floorpizza8074 sure. that doesn't change how the heavy bolter doesn't really feel like it punches thing. Melta feels like it hits like a mack truck cause it basically one shots minoris and staggers majoris. While I haven't used the heavy plasma I assume it staggers at full charge like all other plasmas. The heavy bolt doesn't do that. So to make it feel like it punches hard without increasing the damage would be nice to have it break blocks or staggers after multiple hits. I would prefer break blocks cause it would feel really good in team play to have a weapon that does that.

    • @floorpizza8074
      @floorpizza8074 10 днів тому

      @@sreggad Yup, I completely agree. Heavy bolter feels like it's only good for canon fodder clearing only, and even then, it could use a buff. But it *really* needs a buff to feel anywhere nearly as good as the two alternatives.
      I actually agree with everything you said, I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page as far as head shots working on blocking enemies. They do work, they just don't hit hard enough.
      Since the last patch, the plasma incinerator, IMO, is going to end up being the new meta once everyone levels it up.
      It literally does it all.. crowd control, breaks blocks, works on flying bosses, stuns... it does all the things.
      I really wish the heavy bolter would be buffed to feel the same way the plasma incinerator feels now.

    Whats happiest place for a Heavy? Tight next to and snugging the ammo box! Multi melta is ok, but the plasma heavy is SO GOOD! U can shoot in your legs to clear a room with the AOE, the charged DPS is capable of one shotting Majors. I highly advice people to lvl Heavy with plasma pistol and main and then when high lvl to go and then level the heavy bolter. Heavy bolter is really really good but only once you hit maxed out Artisan Mastery. Before that it hurts. A great setup is to have all healing percs because you can tank bosses in heavy mode and just shoot. Contested health is healed, armour vs waves etc. Also going for more bolter penetration is great. Melta is my least favourite because you really must kill the target you are shooting.....random players just execute left right and center.....so start with plasma, by 13 you have the best notes for it and get it to Artisan/Relic easily! Then go for heavy bolter and compensate with your great Heavy perks. A trick i love is the explosive Barrier, yes you cant move in heavt stance but you also cant be interupted healing with the heavy bolter and by the time you are in trouble- Barrier exploes and kills all! On a heavy bolter you can just blow up a swarm around you so you never have to stop just shooting Brother!

    I've also been leveling my heavy bolter but I haven't taken it above the tier of the weapon so far (played it on substantial with an artificer bolter missing a perk or 2 and it held up fine). IMO it is an extremely late bloomer that sucks dishwater at mastercrafted, decent at artificer and pretty good at relic tiers once perked. Not only is the step in weapondamage from mastercraft => relic abnormally large (4 to 6?) but the perks available in epic tier are some of the strongest weaponperks in the game (2x15% damage in heavy stance, yes please) whereas the perks in mastercrafted are "just" to make it function solidly (making that b-line for "heavy immunity"). These factors together result in perked artificer being about 100% stronger than perked mastercrafted so I'm very glad it wasn't the first weapon I leveled. On the whole I'm not sure you really need the "perpetual penetration" perk though, the HB's have piercing 4 already so I'm planning on picking "discipline" when I get to it.

    This is a cautionary tale of the Brothers of the Long Watch -
    The “Redemption of St. Sulech” is an ancient heavy bolter relic that represents a symbol of honour, but also a disregard for orders.
    A Deathwatch Kill-team posted to the isolated colony of St. Sulech was caught up in the fighting when an Ork raiding force from the Evil Sunz Clan attacked. Delaying their extraction and the completion of their mission, the Space Marines chose to join the defence. Brother Frosius, a Devastator from the Imperial Fists Chapter, was deployed in the highest tower of the Imperial shrine with his favoured heavy bolter, while the others remained below. Thanks to the devastating bursts of accurate fire from the tower, the Speed Freaks were defeated, but not without the loss of the rest of the Kill-team. Upon his return to Erioch, Brother Frosius was severely censured for the decision to stay and fight. FOR THE EMPEROR!!

    Heavy bolter was always awesome, heavy bolter go brrr. I pair it with a plasma pistol that I can charge if need be. I don’t see my job as the one who needs to get the most kills, I’m there to clear out the crowds and soften up hard targets for my teammates. Getting the most kills is not the only way to be a team asset.

    As a heavy bolter enjoyer myself, I’d like to point out a few things:
    1. Heavy immunity most likely doesn’t work at all. I still get staggered and knocked around by most attacks just like I would without the perk.
    2. The maximum spread reduction perk isn’t very good, imo. In this game, non headshot damage is so low that I find more success by tap firing. I deal more consistent damage and preserve more ammo this way. I understand why some people prefer to go full BBBBRRRRRRRRR, tho. If that’s the case, this perk ain’t so bad.

    • @MrJoker190
      @MrJoker190 11 днів тому

      If spread reduction is not good enough, I would choose the cooler variant. It will cool down the heavy bolter more faster and the right perks will cool even faster. It's my build though. I haven't tried accuracy build yet.

    A few thoughts here. One, the heavy has no bad guns. The plasma post buff is an absolute monster too. It destroys hard targets like nothing else. The bolter is a nice middle ground and the melta is the melta.
    Two, the melta isn't boring. In fact, it's a ton of fun. It just plays very differently and much more aggressively than the bolter. It's a close range brawler weapon that you will rarely need to use heavy stance with. Get stuck, work that dodge and parry while getting good angles to fire.

    I will start this by saying that I am on purple rarity and still learning positioning with the Bolter Heavy, but from this little experience I feel that I really need a teammate that can peel for me, it takes me too much time to kill a Nid Warrior(impossible if swords crossed), thus needing too much time to reposition, get into heavy,rev up, and start blasting.
    But it might be just my little experience making things hard to deal with.

    • @warriorfire8103
      @warriorfire8103 11 днів тому

      @@novembermike512 I've been breaking warriors in 3 ways.
      1.) hit with plasma, heavy stance full auto into head, dead. (My fav way to dispose of lone majors quickly or if I have the opening)
      2.) hip fire while backing up or even dodge back step backwards to bait out parries from both major/minor. (Do not roll! Just the back step dodge)
      3.) weave in Stomps. It's deceptively fast to pull off and nets free gun strikes to surrounding nids if ya need it. At the start of a mission practice starting it quickly, no need for a full charge.
      Also keep in mind, because I just learned this and no one points it out. Parry activates from heavy stance ^_^

    • @Dante-mw2ez
      @Dante-mw2ez 9 днів тому

    I recently maxed all the heavies weapons as well. I found the gun to be a bit spongey. Yea it did the job but the relic version felt the exact same as the master crafted version. When it comes to heavy I think people are sleeping on the Plasma launcher, 14+ base dmg on a non charged shot with a ton of ammo, it's basically a melta with long range and way more ammo. You rarely need to even charge the weapon and each uncharged shot is a baby grenade.

    Melta, you inherently depend on others to fill niches you are no longer providing. That's all well and good until all three classes run Melta's and you vs a Zoanthrope or the Helldrake and can't do anything but pray for grenade spawns.
    Like 80% of Melta players mismanage their ammo as well, so they end up using secondary/melee for half the damn run too.

    they fixed it where you can properly perfect parry in heavy stance now... just not while shooting. Heavy bolter had been my go-to for awhile since the only situation it's not great in is CQC and the standard melee is basically an auto gun-strike on minoris so I literally just do that until they all die or my teammate rescue me or I switch to my pistol and perfect-parry/dodge majoris enemies til the same thing happens. I found that when you are using the correct level gun on the correct level you stagger a lot more... so this gameplay is not *the best* at showing how good it is.

    This is less about the heavy bolt or, and more about Bolton weapons in general.
    They need to redo the perk trees on these weapons, because they honestly are too underwhelming.
    I’ve been leveling up both the stalker rifle and carbine on my vanguard, and it’s simply ridiculous that I can empty an entire clip into ONE majoris, and it doesn’t get them to finisher.
    The damage is done. But the perk pools need some ‘specialization’ to allow better damage windows.
    For instance, the carbine needs a perk that says ,parrying a majoris or higher level enemy increases weapon damage by 25% for 3 seconds’.
    Something that simple would GREATLY increase its intended close range usage, as you now know the weapon is a parry/shoot/parry roll.
    Most bolt weapons need that kind of love
