I'm not far from 40 and it looks like 40 is the new 14 on UA-cam 😅 everyone from our generation back on board 🛹 learning, progressing and having fun shredding the wooden plank 🔥😎👊💯
Same age, same being a beginner all over again after 20 years, same South London spots, same yearning to progress, same frustrations haha. Nice to have this to watch to spur me on. Hope to catch you out there one of these days.
Keep at it man! Progess will come slowly but surely! I'm 33, skated on a torn acl for 7 years stupidly, got surgery 2 years ago, started skating again around 1 year post op, felt like a beginner again just rolling around taking it easy.(very scary at the time) Now 2 years post op and finally getting back into my groove and progressing again! Love to see this.
Good stuff as always mate, that grind down the slopey qp was sick. Ollies look good mate, they’ll only get better with time and as you feel more confident on your board. Give boneless and other footplant grabby tricks a try, they’re a nice break from just trying to Ollie stuff and I reckon they make a big difference improving Ollies too. Hope the toe heals up quick mate, I’ll drop a message in the discord about a trip down your way in the next couple of days.
They need work too, tbf. Boneless and this caveman stuff. Would help break the monotony. I can’t seem to match up UA-cam people with their discord names. So telegraph when you say you’re coming to London.
Nice video! I also startet skateboarding at 36 and I've been skating for roughly 2 years now. I also watch Skate IQ 😄👍 and what Mitchie seid about Ollies and 180s was mind blowing! I just recently started landing fs 180s and I did it like "pulling up my front leg for the ollie and immediately pushing my back foot forward" with just very little turn in the upper body. Focussing on pushing my back foot forward instead of throwing my shoulders around made all the difference! Maybe it works for you too! And I find them easier rolling.
Enjoyed the vid! Your set up looks pretty sick including the grip job. Hope the toe doesn’t give you too much jip. Thanks for the mention on your community post a few days ago dude 👊🏻
Cheers dude. The knees were definitely bent. But no height still. The feeling that Ollie’s are maybe just not going to be for me is something I’m considering
Awesome work on the Ollie mate. I also get distracted very easily when working on the one trick, but you also gotta have fun and enjoy the limited time we get to skate! Loved the transition skating at the end 💪
yeah on a lunchtime outside it's really difficult to focus on one thing, cause we're out to have fun. at least the ollies measure up to a warm up and the transition feels easier.
41 here. Most of my tricks are from the last 3 years when I started taking my consistency seriously. Mobility work did wonders! I've started getting some decent heelflips last month.
@@Ungracefulmovement A trainer I used to have would always say "whatever's hardest is what you should be doing more of" (That said, yoga is easy. You just put on some Netflix the night before a sesh and figure out what on you is tighter than usual.)
Re. Ollies - Get your back foot up & level with your front foot. You won’t clear anything, if you don’t level out. Also try & hang for longer. Don’t be in a rush to land. Slow everything down.
Nice work on the copings! Personally I don't really get that revert-thing yet, it's too hard to slide it, altough my wheels are 99a. (And it's nothing to do with the oldschool shape either, og skaters did it, too.) Get well!
ah, some people struggle with it. simple but not that simple - foot placement, body movement, weight distribution... all goes into it. and thanks on the coping. always a bit of a struggle.
Hey someone got a new hoodie, injuries are a small reminder that healing is important and in some places bird poop is good luck. Ollie looks good. Keep knees and toes lined up and you might have more weight towards front foot than you need when you pop the board maybe do a light pop land in a manual or on back truck and tail? Might help you get a lighter front foot ?
Hi, I'm pretty much at the same stage as you. I started skateboarding after a 20 year break almost from scratch. As for ollie, I would recommend trying ollie without speed because even a little speed can cause you to concentrate on getting on the skateboard too much and therefore not concentrate on jumping. You probably know this, but I'll remind you that you have to accept the possibility of falling. And the more you put into the trick, the "better" you will possibly fall, if you fall. I also just bought elbow pads so I don't have to worry about falling as much anymore. I've noticed that most of the time I fall on my elbow and hip. The hip takes the impact pretty well but the elbow hurts quite a bit.
Definitely sounds like we’re on the same stage. I’d like to Ollie onto a curb and I feel for that I need to get comfortable with the speed though. I think tightening my trucks might help a little, because it’s not falling that I fear… I just feel like I never get the jump I want in my mind.
@@Ungracefulmovement Me too if I overthink it. It's a bit different to how you normally jump I think because you swing the elbows out more, rather than swinging arms forward. I think its the key for you.
The day's coming when you'll stop going through the motions and just go for it. That's where I'm stuck at for the most part; I know how to do the things I'm trying but just can't seem to go for it (and land them!). So annoying!
Hey dude, love the videos, it’s super rad to see someone’s improvement like this, especially when sticking with UA-cam regularly. Inspiring for my own videos! Take a subscribe 👊
The only thing I can see that's impeding your ollie progress is your back foot, it needs to be at the same level as your front foot, or higher. The standing jumps are a good exercise but as you say doesn't help much with actual execution. Jump All the best
framing it as "impeding" is good actually. to think that I'm stopping it myself - instead of thinking i don't jump high or front foot whatever. thanks for the support.
Instead of box jumps try this: ua-cam.com/users/shorts0hbeSdv_BIc?si=8oC9cf9dnSQGRwP- There is not a direct translation between ollie on a snowboard and skateboard but similarities and this is nearer to training the muscle memory required than box jumps as you are powering down through one leg and kicking out. Box jump is through both legs.
Great vid. Those lunchtime skates during the week are pretty crucial IMHO. I went to four day work weeks a while ago, the extra day off is nice but had to go to half hour lunches, that kinda sucks. I'm slowly dipping my toe in skate vlog arena. I'm pretty out of shape and have a lot of work to do. I'm hoping it will help with my motivation. VLOGs like yours are very inspirational, keep up the good work. 🤙🛹
Thanks for watching the vlogs at all... appreciate the support. I saw your shorts. lovely cruising on that old school deck? I see the lunch skate the same as going to the gym, but less exhausting.

I'm your age, I just got back into it after 20+ years. It hurts, its hard, but I love it.
Yes dude. Another one back in the game.

19, still skate but I just know this will be me rediscovering skateboarding again one day
this feels like a note to your future self. just don't stop.
I’m 38 and roughly at the same level as you so this is right up my street! 👍👍
you know the struggle.
Now here’s a channel I can relate to. Literally working on the same stuff! Cheers!
Welcome. I do hope you enjoy the channel.
same age here, used to skate 20+ years ago, and back again…so cool to see i‘m not alone:D greetings from germany, keep pushing

I'm 36 and start skateboarding 8 months ago. It's hard and I don't know how you do it at your age.
Haha. There’s a compliment in there somewhere 👀 it’s not easy
Keep at it man! There are a few of us newbies in our thirties!
Loved the "rolling" sections! Fun addition. Also, really liking your progress and attitude! Cant wait to get back on my board, see you in the discord!

I’ve been recommended yoga several times as a good skate accessory. I just think yoga’s harder than skating

Nice work. I wanna see you swing your arms up more with the ollies. Kind of gives you extra air time. Look at your ams when doing box jumps.
