When Larry was assigned a dorm, his roommate was from a relatively rich family, and next to all those nice clothes his roommate had in the closet, Larry had a couple of pairs of jeans. That's what he meant when he was talking finances. The other players came from families who had at least some money, and Larry had next to nothing. Knight has said since that he made a mistake in the roommate he assigned to Bird.
I've really gotten to like your reactions. Just that reminder about coming in second shows how invested you become in the great Celtics of the 80s. Keep On Keepin On
The financial part with I.U. might have been regarding the family. He did go home and get a job. I imagine it was cheaper at Indiana State. There is also the insurance aspect to his father's suicide, as sad as that is.
There's some info from the Boston Globe writers on Larry having nothing to hang in his dorm room closet at I.U., while his roommate's was stacked with clothes. He had a full ride, but he was flat broke.
All the players at Indiana were pretty well to do. They all had nice clothes and you know it's a pretty prestigious college but he just didn't feel like he fit in there. It was too big. + He didn't have any nice clothes. Plus he was being bullied by Kirk Benson and that's why he paid him back so much when he paid played for the Pistons. Remember the don't put no white boy on me. That was Kirk Benson that was trying to guard him. That's also who was guarding McHale the night that McHale got 56. That's why bird kept feeding Miguel the ball
Love this video. I watched this right after it came out. There is another video with just Larry by nba top shots. Also some short videos out just this week celebrating 40 years anniversary of 1984 Celtics with Larry Mchale Maxwell and parish❤another great reaction
@@HenDawgTV Larry didn't have a scholorship, and he came from a really, really poor family, so he felt he couldn't afford it, and quit IU and went to indiana state where he could afford to pay for it. Though I've heard people say Bobby Knight would have gotten him a scholorship had he known.
Longtime Bird/Boston Celtics fan 🍀...Larry and Magic had the highest basketball IQ's I ever seen.... they meant so much to the game and even more to the fans .... great reaction my friend 👍
Just for the record, I created "The Sky Hook"😊! As a kid in the early 60's, a friend and I would go to the fieldhouse (a gym with courts, swimming pool, etc) on an Air Force base with a friend and we'd sometimes ask to play with the GI's and each side would take one of us. The only way to take a shot, pretty much, was with a hook shot. Kareem perfected it, but I invented it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it😊.
Kareem was already practicing sky hooks in the early 60s on the playgrounds of NYC, as a young teen. Even George Mikan was shooting skyhooks in the 50s, but no one had perfected it until Kareem.
@@HenDawgTV dude I got family there!!!! I have family all over Ohio. I miss Ohio so much. Can you do me a favor when you next go to Cedar Point can you ride the best roller coaster for me. Are you going to any football games????
What should I react to next?? 🤔

Bird is such a humble man. It's hard to believe he mighta been the greatest trash talker of all time. LOL. Looking forward to the next part bro!!
